I made the mistake of buying that 6" Milwaukee braqking grinder. After 14 months it failed. Milwaukee wanted $162 to diagnose the prob and then parts and labor to fix it. It was replaced with a Flex grinder and all of the Milwaukee tools I have are being replaced with the Flex tools as the Milwaukee tools fail. Milwaukee lost my business permanently.

Just watched a video about a flexvolt rear handle saw vs Milwaukee with a 12ah rear handle. Same issue with the Milwaukee batteries overheating and the guy kept saying you can use any m18. In high demanding tools higher voltage works better.
@mikemorgan5015
@mikemorgan5015 5 лет назад
Milwaukee decided to stick with the M18 platform to keep their customers happy. That came with some serious consequences due to the limitations of lower voltage/higher current. They HAVE done an incredible job of delivering with the HO batteries while still making the tools work(albeit with lower performance) with the standard batteries. Both great tool manufacturers with great tools. If that 9ah battery was hot going on the charger and you just got it off the charger(especially a rapid charger), it doesn't take a lot to get it into thermal shutdown. A 12, 8, or 6 HO should fare better. I don't use the rapid charger unless I'm in a time crunch. Fast charging will almost certainly shorten battery life, but then again, a 2000 charge cycle rated battery can be charged every day for 5 1/2 years, so maybe not an issue at all. Just my anal retentive nature about battery care, I suppose. I would like to see Milwaukee put a cooling fan on their chargers like Makita.
@Impact-OG
@Impact-OG 5 лет назад
Yes a cooling fan would be great. In part two coming out soon I get more in depth with the Batterys I just got my 8.0 HO battery, So I test the 3 HO, 5xc, 6HO, 8 HO, 9HD, and the 12 HO battersy and talk about run time and if they over heated or not. Its kind of boring but informative. Well at least I find it informative. And thanks for watching...

Using standard xc battery will give u, depending on amount of cells either 30, 60 or 90Amperes. Multiply by 18v and u get 540, 1080 or 1620 Watts. That means only 15 x cell xc battery can deliver enough juice for this grinder. 5 and 10 cell batteries will not give enough juice and will get hurt. On the other hand the High Output batteries are made of 21700 cells ... Developed for tesla by Samsung BTW.. Its called Samsung 40-T. These HO batteries can deliver 40/80/120 Amperes.... 5/10/15 cells. That means u can pull 720/1440/2160 Watts. So even the high output 5 cell design won't be enough., u need at least 10 cells of 21700 or 15 cells of 18650(xc battery)

@missingegg
@missingegg 3 года назад
@@Impact-OG I think you're being a little unfair here. The power draw of the angle grinder means that it is best paired with a "high output" m18 battery, which is their newest line of batteries utilizing 21700 cells instead of the older 18650 cells found in the high demand and extended capacity series of batteries. You're giving good info to let people know that their existing investment in M18 batteries might not be good enough for a new angle grinder, but the tool paired with the proper battery shouldn't have the same heat issues.
@philipjohn4149
@philipjohn4149 3 года назад
I have all the grinders. Dewalt is so much better. Milwaukee at 6 or 9 in will damage 18v battery even a 12. In fact the 6 is the best for Milwaukee... for heat protection and to now end the life of HO batteries. A 6 will have a higher amp rating per cell and handle the tripping out better. Won't have the runtime... but 2 -6 amph will. And destroying a 12 has lost all run time. It's such an issue at 18v that Milwaukee really should buy back the big tools and bats that cant handle the heat.

Of course the Milwaukee will cut out faster than the Dewalt. The Dewalt had a much more powerful battery. Dewalt's 9.0 battery has bigger cells and can put out 75% more current than Milwaukee's 9.0 battery. You will have to use a Milwaukee 12.0 battery for a fair comparison.

Actually in series current is going to be the same everywhere unless you connect batteries in PARALLEL. So yes the 12 Ah battery will be more of an even playing field for the Milwaukee but you are going to want to check out the voltage which we know, and explains the power difference. FWIW I still recommend there Milwaukee Brushless fuel model as it is a power house and I cut through rebar in seconds at work! This guy doesn't have a good blade and it is all about blades when cutting through steel, we all can agree on that. Maybe that Milwaukee blade was for mild steel? Who knows. Not a fair video by far and Milwaukee Obv wins if it were!

@PyroAnonymous
@PyroAnonymous 3 года назад
Incorrect. Both batteries are 9AH @ 18v/20v max, but the flexvolt is actually 3 AH @ 60v max. The only reason the Milwaukee cut out was because of Thermal Resistance the tool faces because of the 18v battery. Higher voltage is actually better because you'll need less amps to achieve the same power compared to something running at a lower voltage. Amps is what's responsible for generating heat in the wires which causes thermal resistance, which bogs down the tool. To overcome the resistance, you'll need to draw more amps, and more amps = more heat.

Bro, I'm not your boss, and i'm not your safety guy, but i'm telling you for your own good, I don't know how familiar you are with Zip wheels, but you really shouldn't run them that deep into the material, you want them as shallow below the surface as possible, when you're cutting deep like this @ 7:49 cut down through the top, not straight head on into it, you're 10X more likely to bind up that blade causing it to break and send shrapnel everywhere, which could seriously hurt, or even kill you.

That must be the flexivolt 414 like the one I have . That grinder is a mean machine , I use it daily and it has never let me down on important heavy jobs . I scored me a couple of 12 amp flexivolt and Maan my work hours are done in half the day . Apart from the 414 I am seriously getting the DeWalt 418 which has more runtime, bit more power . Also I am thinking of getting a Milwaukee cordless grinder for my Milwaukee platform cause of colliding contracts that I do suiting general steel fabricating to carpentry related work... Almost there . Waiting for a good Milwaukee grinder to arrive .. if ever one does

I bought this 2980-20, it eats battery’s for breakfast! It is much more powerful and not much bigger than the old 2780-20 I got 6 batts and 3 chargers going I’m waiting on a battery lol. I got all the h.o. Batts and Xc batts above 5.0 surprisingly the 9.0 xc runs the best, considering they recommend a h.o. ! I also own a 2783-20 I believe the brake on the 2980-20 is what’s cooking the battery, unlike the 2783-20.im running a 6” grinding wheel

Yeah I really like mine, when I was testing mine I had a 6 inch metal cut off wheel on it and it was overheating all the batteries except the eight and the 12 but I was cutting through a 2-inch thick rebar was mine which is unlikely for anybody to really do. but I figured on the job site it's not uncommon to try to cut through something that big.

Lower voltage and higher current = more heat. Higher voltage and lower current = less heat. At the same draw producing the same amount of power, the higher voltage/lower current will always produce less heat then the higher current/lower voltage. To add to this, excessive heat is terrible for the lifespan of Lithium Ion batteries. Therefor dewalt wins. However dewalt batteries are misleading and done so on purpose I'd imagine. For example a 60v 6AH battery will not get you 6AH at 60v. Notice how it says the AH on the 20v side and not the 60v printing. This is because the battery is 6AH at 20v and 2AH at 60v. Marketing B.S. so that people will OOoh and Ahhh. If you are using a 60v dewalt battery, just divide the AH by 3 and that will be the true AH at 60v.

It is hard to beat the Flexvolt grinder in terms of performance, and that is nothing to be butthurt about. Rather it is a good thing for us as consumers; it forces the big tool producers to stay on their toes. I'm on the M18/M12 platforms but I can appreciate when someone does something right. One thing I would like to add though is the madness of pushing down hard on a grinder, that is the reason why some guys have to buy a new grinder every year while others have theirs for ages.

The electronic brake engages with maximum force to quickly stop the wheel, reduce the movement of the grinder and shut the grinder off E-clutch activates in less than a tenth of a second when a pinch/stall is detected, shutting down the motor 9000 rpm no-load speed for applications with 6 inch grinder wheels For $330 That Milwaukee with just the grinder and nothing else your looking at $250 It dose the same thing the Milwaukee will and will last just as long and cost way less for what you get. I think this could be a commercial for dewalt, I'm not sure ... it was a short break in filming after he finished cutting with milwaukee ,,, he took out the battery but didn't show the LED indicator directly, the pause appears after which take milwaukee with the battery mounted but the moment when he puts the battery back is not seen in the filming !!!! which battery did he put ???!!! milwaukee and dewalt or other brands no longer have the same quality as in the past or since they have been manufacturing in china, the quality of the materials is weaker ... tools of the new generations breaks to the electronic part .... at first the amazement for performance and then the disappointment ... for marketing reasons it is produced at the lowest possible costs with capitalization at the highest exorbitant prices so that robbers boys in suits can live well as far as I know neither dewalt nor milwaukee have fan chargers like they are at bosch or metabo with air coller ... at the prices they are they should have put a minicoler on and powered by the battery to start when the battery starts to run out warm up ... that gives me the idea to bring this improvement to my batteries

Could have a wire broke in the brushless motor. Which is pretty much impossible to repair. But could also be the gearbox getting worn out. Some proper greasing might have saved it but who knows. That's the problem with grinders. Lots of heat, lots of fragile internals, and it takes is a big spark finding it's way inside to burn a wire. Or just a short from a battery frying the tool.

Milwaukee keep going on about being on the same battery platform clearly a dig at Dewalt and the flexvolt system. It seems clear that technically yes it’s the same Battery platform but there are now tools that you can’t use 4 or 5 amp packs on like the high demand tools meaning a purchase for users even although they already have multiple 4 or 5 amp packs, and then equally your newly purchased high demand packs 9 or 12 amp packs don’t really work that great on say an impact driver because it’s then heavy and unbalanced & a bit impractical. So they have ended up with 2 systems really.

Disagree with that I can use a 2 amp in my fuel sawzall or a 12 and there is many more tools you can use the full range in like the the circular saws and sds drills.. on a work site if you are some where hard to get to and you are using an impact driver and the last battery you have left is a 12amp it's so handy just to be able to use it may be awkward but it works.

This is where red china fools their lemmings. They just are selling higher powered tools with underpowered batteries. Now they scammed their users into buying “HO” batteries. Hahahaha. Fools. Why do I want a 2ah battery to fit on my 12” Mitre saw, table saw, concrete saw, grinder, etc??? This is where Milwaukee will get left behind in the future OR look foolish by going back on their word and make a new battery line or do a Makita and start putting multiples of those toy batteries on their toys. I hope they don’t, and just go the way of the Dino.

They make a couple corded sawzalls (not all) and they make a magnetic drill press (not all) That's it. Moreover Milwaukee is completely Chinese owned with 99.8 percent of their power tools made in China. The only thing American about Milwaukee any longer is the name and some disposables. Squares, some bits.. Power tools? Nope! While DeWalt does not make every power tool (cordless or corded here) they make a decent amount and trying to add all the time.
