Carlson traveled to Russia in February 2024 to interview President Vladimir Putin. It was Putin's first one-on-one interview with a Western journalist since he launched the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Carlson said that while Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy had been given a platform, "not a single Western journalist has bothered to interview the president of the other country involved in this conflict, Vladimir Putin". This sparked backlash from American and European journalists, who pointed out that they had repeatedly been denied interviews with Putin, and that some had been expelled. The Kremlin Press Secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said Carlson had been allowed an interview because "his position is different", saying, "It's not pro-Russian, not pro-Ukrainian, it's pro-American. It starkly contrasts with the stance of traditional Anglo-Saxon media".

*Russia attacked Poland 17 days after Germany did in 1939! Oh, I suppose Putin conveniently forgot to mention that! After Poland fell, these two "friends in crime" indeed held a parade! Look it up yourself! The German-Soviet military parade in Brest-Litovsk on September 22, 1939!* Regarding Putin: Watch his actions, not his words!

*To truly understand the depth of Ukrainian animosity towards Russia, one must explore the events that unfolded in Ukraine during 1931-33 and the entities responsible. Feel free to examine photographs for a visual depiction if you wish. The history of the twentieth century is far too complex to depend solely on the words of a pathological liar and, moreover, a mass murderer like Putin.*

*Don't be misled by Putin's speech about "Ukrainian Nazis in the Canadian Parliament." To grasp the full context, it's crucial to delve into the events that unfolded in western Ukraine after Poland's collapse and the extensive "de-Ukrainization" campaign conducted by the Soviets from 1939 to 1941. This period sheds light on the intricate dynamics of Ukrainian history, underscoring the profound impact of Soviet policies on Ukrainian identity and culture. Those interested in gaining deeper insights into this complex history can explore books such as "Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin" by Timothy Snyder and "Red Famine: Stalin's War on Ukraine" by Anne Applebaum!*

I couldn’t find an answer to Greg’s question about ‘Jewish nationality’ that Putin refers to when is talking about Zelenskyy, so I will comment. This is a translator’s mistake, a false friend. In Russian language, a very similar word to the english word nationality (национальность) is used to reflect an ethnicity, not a citizenship. Basically Greg guess is correct. To refer to nationality in the meaning of citizenship we use a different word (гражданство).

I'm a transcriptionist, and sometimes I will transcribe a translated interview. One of my directives when doing this is to make the final product sound like it was spoken by a native English speaker, and it abides by our grammar rules. I'll have to add articles, correct verb tense, or rearrange the words so it flows better to English/American ears. For example, a Spanish speaker would say, "la silla roja", which might be translated as, "the chair that is red", and I would transcribe that as, "the red chair". That may be one explanation as to why the translator seems to be reading, and at times doesn't match up with putin's speech pattern exactly. He might be reading a transcript of a translation and smoothing it for English ears. Just a thought! Great episode, guys! Thanks
@Winda25

Yes, he definitely translates adapted transcript as sometimes he says the thought in English up to 10 seconds earlier than Putin says it himself (I can hear it in Russian). The translation is very good though
@FollenSky
@FollenSky 5 месяцев назад
@@Winda25Yes the translation is good but there were many instances that the translation leads to more questions and doesn't convey the hart of what was said. Mostly I think it's the cultural differences that cause to misinterpret what was said.
@zheckav

The translation is not perfect. Whoever did the translation definitely has a large vocabulary, but he is is not a person who is a native English speaker, and it often shows. Often times, the sentences are structured the way only a Russian native speaker would construct them. Someone, who doesn’t actually lives his day to day life in an English speaking world. @@Winda25

@FollenSky 5 месяцев назад
@lanaconstanti-nova6379 I personally am trilingual and watched this interview in both 🇷🇺&🇺🇸 so I didn't have problem getting the message of President Putin. 🙃 My history education doesn't allow me to say that he lied in any of his statements. Though as any history event it has 3 sides my side/yor side and the truth. Historical events are unquestionable, motivations and interpretations of those are based upon nationality & borders (that is the sad truth). That's why Him gifting TC copies of original documents was a master-stroke. What I was remarking upon is that English translation was in places lacking. The key to any good translation unfortunately is also knowledge of culture that the speaker/writer is from. That's why when I read English literature I read it in original (though old English in Shakespeare's works was Hard to get used to 😵‍💫), I don't watch dubbed films, etc, same with 🇷🇺 classic. So, coming back to my first statement, thanks, but I don't have the time to write each statement that I found lacking in English translation.😵‍💫 to much work 😒 🫣

Putin’s body language at that question was telling - he rocked back on his heels (although seated), he dipped his head too as if he was slugged in the gut and folded inward. But his words and his one hand waving off the question, was his attempt to show he was not threatened. Then he changed his point and said he talked to Biden before the war. Then he said they communicated through contacts. Then he shifted to the missile defense system, and declaring how safe we all are. He is a mobster, letting us know he could easily destroy anyone if so moved.

Ukraine is a sovereign country and does whatever it pleases inside its land, and surely has the right to make revolution when a corrupt pro-Kremlin stodge got in power by cheating. Nevertheless Ukraine is a sovereign country. Russia has no business inside Ukraine. The billions mentioned, didn't go anywhere outside the USA but are spent across 10 US States manufacturing different parts of the weapons that are replacing the old ones sent to Ukraine. Ukraine was not sent the money but rather the billions VALUE IN THE OLD WEAPONS , THE OLD WEAPONS SENT TO UKRAINE , while the money replace them with new, updated, improved weapons that the American workers members of Unions, manufacturing different parts of the new weapons to replenish the USA military stock. Stop, Stop being sarcastic. Speak the truth as it is. Surely the two kids fighting analogy didn't nail it at all since the kid Russia is stubbornly and deadly mind set to never stop beating the other kit , even to death, and no matter what the USA father says, wishes or do. Even worse: Putin made public on Russian TV (against the father 'USA') and through decrees that Alaska is a Russian Republic & sooner or later must be returned to Russia & that Russia won't stop until enters Berlin back in Germany. Carlson Tucker is a disgrace to the USA and a coward as well as a traitor, propagandist and deceiver. Carlson Tucker is a twisted propagandist, liar and great hypocrite. Apply his logic to the world war 1 and 2. Then because was bad for the USA economy to go to war against German Nazis, and because in the USA's many bad towns mafia, neighborhood and crime even then during the world war 1 and 2 crime and rapes, then the USA should not have gone to war, but should have let UK, France, the rest of Europe and Russia to be taken by the Nazi Germany and Italy, which were in the way to rule all the oceans of the earth (if it were not for the USA to enter the war), and all Euro-Asia (Europe and Asia). But now according to Putin's Russia TV channels broadcasts in the last two years, Russia plans to do the same,, together with China (if gets victory in Ukraine). So if another Hitler like the Russian one "Putler", who's KGB cod name is Putin seems intelligent, & decreed that no doubt, Alaska is a Russian Republic and he will take it back after consolidating with more invasions in Europe all the way into Germany, can form a complete sentence as some of the Americans said: "unlike Biden", they are happy to betray their nation (right ? ), to be enslaved as Putin sworn that he will greatly punish the USA to isolate it from East once takes over Europe, and from West once takes back Alaska; that's OK according to you. You go ahead and let it happen by not opposing the Russian expansion, just to see if it does happen and see if life in submission to the Russian empire is better. Go ahead but also be ready to suffer the consequences. But fear not and trust whoever naive politician or president will be leading you to your own nation's fall to betray your true friends, and let Tucker with Putin divide and conquer so you get no choice but serve them in submission and under the Ruble. You go ahead and follow the propagandist Tucker who keeps spreading Kremlin's propaganda like a parrot keeps saying to his own people "nuke, nuke, nuke, nuke, bla bla bla bla bla", desperate for not being able to scare his own people and nation, and you will see where he will lead you, but you won't be able to punish him once he sells you in the hands of your enemies after right now betraying your nation's friendly nations of allies to lead whichever President to do the same so that the USA finds itself alone with everyone else around turned into enemies due to such twisted propagandist, treasonous traitor and deceiver as Carlson Tucker is not only against the rest of the USA opposing with his selfish isolationism propaganda but also against Canada, Australia and all European friendly countries.

There are always two sides to every story. Tucker simply gave Putin the opportunity to explain his side. We are all adults and we should be allowed to hear from both sides and make up our own mind as to whether we believe it or not. As Putin said in the interview, the west and specifically the US controls most of the worlds media so it is "cost prohibitive to compete in the propaganda sphere". The only way to even have a chance to get the message across is to present absolute facts. Notice how of the very little coverage there was in the west, it was all surface insults and nothing of the actual content. That would result in confirmation of everything that was said.

Russian speaker here: they definitely added the translator in post-production, he keeps saying entire sentences before Putin does! Greg is spot on. Also, the translator talks over Putin in the moment about the president of Ukraine & Jewish nationality, so I can’t discern what Putin says. Please note that my Jewish mom & her family were considered just that: Jewish as their nationality. They were not religious, just mostly culturally Jewish. But in the USSR (which we left in 1990), it was a way to other people. My mom expressed how she never felt like the country was there for her (by the way, we are actually from Ukraine but lived there during the USSR, so Russia & Ukraine & all of the republics were still closely tied.) Similar to the US claiming racism is over, in Russia, they’ve pretended anti-semitism not a thing anymore in recent decades. But there he is, giving it away…the undercurrent is very much still there.

Mark, Dmitriy Peskov (Putin's spokesperson) has confirmed that there was no advanced discussion about the kind of questions that Tucker was planning to ask. The reason Tucker was picked for an interview (despite repeated requests from other western msm reporters) was that Tucker was an independent journalist, not aligned with any msm that has a staunch anti-Russian/anti-Putin agenda. Yesterday Putin gave another interview (about 30 mins) to the local (Russian) reporter where he expanded on the interview to TC, and kind of complained that he wished Tucker had asked him more different questions. He didn't know what to expect with TC and was rather surprised that TC, unlike previous western journalists, allowed him to talk freely without frequent interruptions & open aggression. While this was a good thing, Putin lamented that this didn't leave them much time to expand or give more details on other/adjacent topics.

I think when you analyze a video like this, impartiality might be kind of important?? If you are looking for deception and you say "he must be lying because I heard that Russia began the war, right?" I feel like that is not impartial or analyzing the subject directly. Am I wrong?

Chase’s comment on the media, how much do they use emotion? In Canada, our media is much dryer. A good example was the shooting on parliament hill a couple of years ago. The live coverage was very measured and calm. The coverage from the American stations was histrionic.

Same here in Europe (greetings from Ireland), matter of fact , no sensationalising of topics. American entertainment is great because they’re loud (always sound like they’re shouting or an infomercial) and boisterous, however, it’s farcical when it comes to actual news reporting 🤦‍♂️

I'm pretty sure i've heard that Putin knows english very well. Tucker is so intimated by Putin. Great analysis to you all!
@Vmurph
@Vmurph 5 месяцев назад
I’ve heard the same. English is the most widely known language across the globe, and you can’t be a world leader for 25 years without learning English. Especially someone of his intelligence. Even if to just understand what US leaders are saying. I’ve heard that the reason he won’t do interviews or speeches in English is because leaders often come across sounding less intelligent when speaking a foreign language compared to their native language. It’s partly true, actually. It depends on the language, how fluent they are, and how the accent sounds. Russian accents (like German accents) tend to come across as intelligent sounding. So I think it’s just a pride issue with him. Everyone sounds more intelligent (or have better command) in their native language.
@tamaraaa993
@tamaraaa993 5 месяцев назад
@@Vmurphi think it's definitely about sounding more confident and being able to say exactly what you meant without anything being lost in translation. The other thing could be respect for their own listeners or language itself. Like, why should i speak your language when you can't speak mine?
@Vmurph
@Vmurph 5 месяцев назад
@@tamaraaa993 Excellent point. I agree 100% with all of those reasons. They make perfect sense (more than mine, lol). Although his words got lost in translation anyway, since the translator *interpreted* instead of *translated* . But you’re absolutely right, it was more important for him to speak in his native language while in his own country. As we do the same. Because I’m guessing the things he wanted to say were just as much for the Ukrainians as they were for us. And they speak Russian.

just so you know, as a russian I'll tell you, ethnicity is not a common word we use when we talk about someone's heritage/ origin. We use the word "nationality". American is not a nationality. Irish is a nationality. Zelenskiy's nationality is Jewish, or half Jewish half Ukrainian.

I'm American but when Putin claimed that there's Nazis within the Ukraine government and military (I'm paraphrasing) he wasn't exactly wrong. I remember watching a video of the Mayor of Mauripol explain the situation in Mauripol and what they were doing to prepare for Russias invasion of the city. He was video chatting from his Mayors office and directly behind him on the wall was hanging a picture of Stephan Bandera. Now I understand that he was a controversial figure with 2 very different perspectives of him and his legacy in the eyes of Ukrainians...but on the MAYORS office wall??
