Just want to say I've also met some AMAZING Magna owners out there on social media. Amazing in that they've given me information, specifications, advice, leads on parts... you name it. But it's the bad eggs that sour the experience.

A lot of anti-profit people out here as well when it comes to buying goods and services, you can see this all the time on those facebook groups, even if and when you can show proof they're getting a better deal. They'll always piss and moan if it's a small biz or an individual that needs to make a small profit on something, but they don't seem to care when it's a major corporation ripping them off. The potential future of Australians is really worrying.

People are allowed to make money on things if they want, if nobody did we wouldn't be here today. I bet these same people won't bat an eyelid at the fact many Japanese cars asking prices went up 10x in only several years.

@@JV8391 Well said. I'm a small business selling car parts and I'm also selling down a huge collection on FB. The cesspool that has become Australia is very sad. What's wrong with buying a collectable? What's wrong with being a collector? What's wrong with trading at a profit, or at very least getting back everything you've invested including your time? Nothing. Yet hundreds of idiots on FB make it their hobby to attack people and tell them they should trade everything for popcorn.

BTW I'll watch anything that's aussie or retro japanese. I'm a holden man myself, but happy to watch any nice car that people are able to work on.

That’s right. Advertised for nearly 3 weeks. Tells me that someone complaining now probably didn’t have the funds at the time, or they were waiting for a desperate low-price sale, and didn’t count on an honest guy coming along with the cash to buy it at a fair price. It’s a shame that maladjusted individuals try to stomp on someone with such passion & creativity. I’ve enjoyed all of Sean’s videos so far, and I’ll keep watching this series too. I have a soft spot for niche models, especially Aussie ones. That’s what got me onto Peter Anderson’s channel. He was doing the XC GXL. A car I liked as a kid because my uncle had one in the 80s. I’ve watched every one of Peter’s videos since. It’s not just the car - it’s the person, their willingness to do stuff, and the evolution of the project that I admire.

Im a Holden / HSV guy through and through - but have a Falcon daily - and recently bought a very clean NU Fairlane V8 - its Aussie, a great cruiser and thats all that matters... Some people just have too much time on their hands and preconcieved notions about other car owners and reasons for purchase or sale... I am so much looking forward to the transformation of this Magna - keep up the great work - and forget the haters!

Yes technically that is correct - however since there are many people referring to it as an NU - when searching for parts particularly it pays to use AU or NU... just like AU or DU for LTD...

I've always found the Magna Madness group to be pretty good. In general most people are really helpful, it's only a few who are a bit pig headed. As somebody who loves Magnas and would love another one if circumstances permitted, I'm stoked that it's gone to a good home where it will be fixed

Sean you are doing a good thing saving this car. Enjoy fixing it and hopefully at the end you will get a very good car that can be daily driven. For what is worth, I have been actively looking at Magnas as a channel project. They are more for interest, curiosity and love given parts cost, labour and desirability, especially the specific combinations I am looking for. All of them are quite rare now and rare doesn't equal desirable for any of them, the last one I saw for sale had an "accident", as insurance paid more than they would ever have got for the car (similar story to the manual 1992 Nissan Serena SR20 on the channel).

There’s always people out there who like to throw hate at others, regardless of your intentions. Sadly we can’t please everyone. I think it’s a great project and look forward to seeing the journey. Keep doing what you're doing mate, it's refreshing seeing content that delves deep in the history of the australian car industry on here because most other content creators either are from overseas and don't understand the impact these cars had on our industry, or are covering cars that were imported (although I don't mind some Mighty Car Mods from time to time). Magnas and mistubishi in general cop a hard review normally from other fan bases, but the 6G74 is a killer engine when treated right. I have one in my 99 NL Pajero and whilst its not super powerful and gets me bullied by mates (in good faith) that own Landcruisers and Patrols, it runs smooth and quiet at idle, barks when I give it some revs and is suprisingly economical considering the size of the car it's pushing around. A true workhorse of an engine, and was even chucked in the Pajero Evolution to win the Dakar Rally.

The overwhelming majority of folks want to see you restore and preserve this Magna Ralliart, Sean. Even if you do have to let it go one day (though hopefully not for a very long time). What would Mal do with it? Somehow I don't think he'd invest the time and money into making this car shine again. I also don't think he'd put in all the extra effort into bringing thousands of others along for the ride. tbh this is the most pumped I've been about any of your cars. No offence to your Fords and the VT, which are all great cars. But the Magna Ralliart is such a rare bird. Congrats on the purchase and can't wait to see how it evolves. 👍

I enjoy your channel firstly I'm also interested in Aussie made cars from mid 90s onwards and I'm 42. Grew up with Wheels and Motor subscriptions as a teenager and excited every two years when my dad's work car would be up graded from VP, VR, VS, VT etc I owned a number of Calais, Fairmont Ghia and one VX Clubsport over last 20 years but with no interest in a Mustang and Holden no more my daily drive is now a 2017 C250 and I love it. My first car in 98 was a TN Elite Magna soi still have a soft spot for Magnas other than the last generation and 380s I'm in a position now where I own my Mercedes outright and casually looking for a VSII Calais or a EL Fairmont Ghia as a fun weekend drive... Why can't people just appreciate Aussie cars of all brand...Can't believe there is an angry bunch of Magna owners lol..You clearly aren't in it for profit and as a regular watcher I'm interested in how the Ralliart goes.. Seriously 🤦

Awesome VR-X. Nice video. My college years car was Magna VR-X 2003 silver. Unfortunately Ralliart was not available in Kuwait. I do love the car and I watched all your videos and remember every corner from it. I gave it away to a friend for free (I don't know why) but still VR-X is a fast car compared with 4 doors sedan in that time. Keep it up and I am more than happy to support your channel

Lol. In cars for the money, that’ll be the day…. It’s a Magna and it will be worth what a buyer is prepared to pay no more no less. All cars go on the market for what the owner thinks it worth, usually much higher than what a buyer wants to pay. Most people let emotions dictate the price of their cars for sale. At the end of the day you’ll get what your willing to take and the buyer is willing to part with. I’m looking forward to see what you do with the Magna. Always enjoy your posts. Good luck with the car Sean. The first car I ever drove when I was 16 was a TN Magna. I grew up in a mainly Ford and Holden family so I was very used to those like you. My father had a TH or KH V6 Verada in the 90's and it was a very nice car. I really liked that one. Great car.

Ford guy here too. I had a TJ magna for years. Put nearly 300k on it. Never gave me any trouble and was a great car. Mine was just the boggo executive as I couldn't afford a VRX or Ralliart when I was buying one. I might still have the workshop manual on CD. If you are interested, I'll try and dig it out. Happy to mail it to you for nothing. Looking forward to seeing you bring this back from the brink.

Those of us that have been following you for a few years now Sean understand that, yes you're a Ford guy, but ultimately its Australian Cars you're proud of as you showed with the Holden. Doesn't matter what brand, its an interest that you enjoy presenting and we enjoy soaking in. Keep doing what you're doing. i know whats it's all about mate, you buy cars because you like cars! i do the same thing despite what friends and family members try to protest against me. two cars i brought in my travels spring to mind; a Ford Raider and a Ssangyong Musso, both were terrible cars (lol) but i was always interested in them so i brought them, fixed them, drove them, found out that they weren't as flash as i first thought (although both were quirky) and moved on, don't worry about those haters because at the end of the day it's about the cars and the memories they create!

You are fine mate, if I tried selling any car I owned I too woukd get far less then I spent on bringing them back on top of service and adding modern touches. It's a labour of love buying and fixing these cars for enjoyment. I'm a ford guy as well but did also drive a 90s magna years ago. Spent a lot bringing a honda crv up to the job never get that back selling it but it hasn't let us down since lol. Sean you didn’t need to make this video. Mal Venn is an idiot. I to am a Ford guy and understand why you didn’t think of it as being a collectors item. Mal Venn it’s a Magna. It will never be a HSV, FPV or Tickford. So no body who likes those cars would see a Magna as a collectors item. Sean when you sell it, if for some magical reason it makes a profit then keep the money. I enjoy your videos and hope you keep making them. I don’t like Magna’s. From experience, the cheaper the entry point is for that particular "enthusiast" vehicle...the worse it gets in terms of the members that frequent it. Low value cars unfortunately attract low value people most of the time, with a small slither left for people who genuinely enjoy the cheap automotive purity they provide.

I'm a bit of a magna fan too. Had one years ago and compared to the au, vt and camry of the same age it kicked arse. Incredible fuel economy on the freeway I saw 6.2l/100 between Brisbane and Gympie. Loved the pillarless doors too. Only thing that ruined the love affair was buying a mazda 3 mps that was just ballistic in comparison. Would still like a manual magna for a daily. You can't agree with that bloke because then you'd both be wrong. Keep it up.

I've owned a BA XR6 Turbo, I've owned an NA Fairlane, I've owned Skylines, a VT Calais, and SS Commodores. I've also owned two TJ AWD Magnas. The TJ Magna was easily one of the best cars I've owned.

Not sure why you need to justify yourself, you provide us with entertainment. Don't like it don't watch. I am a Ford guy, but have owned many other makes because car people appreciate cars!! A major point here is that you are saving a limited number build of our local motoring history, a car who's future would have otherwise been doubtfull. I've always been keen to know what these cars are like, but we can't afford to buy them all, but thanks to Tubers like Sean we get close to experience what it's like, for that we thank you Sean.

I have always said I am a ford man however I have a soft spot for magnas! I agree 100% with you about the "ugly shape"! Personally, I think the VRX front bumper looks better then the Ralliart too.

Im a ford guy.... i bought a magna around the same time (sadly not a ralliart or a vrx they're called diamantes here so my specs more equivalent to a verada) but ive absolutely fallen in love with it ooodles of torque quite economical (especially when compared to what ford and holden were offering in the late 90s with their antiquated powerplants) just a good all round car and if im honest? Not a bad looking one.... id take a magna over a vt anyday and if the old crossflow 4 litre wasnt so darn good? Id take a magna over an au ❤️

My first was an XE Falcon with 3-3 and four speed. After that, an '85 Mitsubishi Colt sedan with the 1-6 and four speed followed by a TP Magna with 2-6 carby and five speed manual. I have this weird love of the challenge of driving underpowered manual cars, particularly in hilly areas. You're forced to be involved and alert as a driver. I presently have this '79 Mazda 323 RWD five door hatch in red with this awful caramel brown interior:- a 1-4 four speed.......slower than a fully laden Kenworth in reverse, but fun to navigate around, and reliable. To all you bored corpses out there punting around in powerful, air conditioned automatics, you're missing out on something. Try to keep awake as you drive..... Grab a car like the ones I've had. They'll bring you back to life. The noise they make is intoxicating. 🤪🤠👍

Don't let the haters get to you. I love my falcons, I am aiming to buy a BA/BF falcon and to be a daily driving project and hopefully keep it for a long while but I am a qualified mechanic working for a Mitsubishi, I am a ford person at heart but to buy a brand new car, I'd go for a brand I worked with, I have experience with fords, subaru, kia, hyundai and now Mitsubishi. Cars are expensive, especially to be a project, I have a mortgage and can't afford a project car especially with my wedding in 4 months and house to pay off. Stay true to what you choose to do. I wouldn't have cared if you went for a Holden, a car is a car, fun to work on and even more fun to maintain and not abuse.

Surprised you didn't mention you had also bought the Calais? That would also add credence to the fact you don't only buy Fords. I too am a Ford guy, but also own a Holden... I have always sought particular models that I really like... bit like your Magna really 🙂 PS, I didn't realise you had tried to offload the AU. MotoringBox without the AU would be unthinkable to me, as it was that car which got me into your channel. All the best with the Magna btw. That is the coolest shape and model in my opinion too

I watched your goodbye and hello video and the advert when it came out around about the same time I needed to go out and buy a car and with COVID cars are so expensive I was looking at Civics, Corollas, etc...at the time I didn't even considering an Australian car. After your video Aussie cars are cheap, reliable, easy to repair and parts easy to get...So I went out and bought one to get me through the COVID car price increase. So ignore those people everyone has a reason for buying a car and if they don't like it well it's their problem!
