PDMs smell good to me. Original maybe not (maybe Layton) but most fragrances aren’t now anyways At retail absolutely not but on discounters I think they are decently priced and for the most part less than most designers nowadays. Of course my nose isn’t as seasoned as many though. They are definitely mass appealing and get compliments if that’s what the person is into.
My old 125ml Godolphin bottle cost me around €125 if I remembered correctly. The early PdM releases were discounted heavily before the hype. Got them all for a steal. Herod, Layton, Oajan, Habdan, Nisean..
For me, Godolphin is an office friendly version of TL. I wouldn't wear TL to the office. I do wear GD. I own both. GD is much better as a clone than Oajan cloning AN. They did a better job with GD imho. No need to own Oajan if I have AN. I'll never reach for it. I can get a new bottle of TLI today. There is still one available near me. However, it is too expensive for what it is... the bottle - the only new bottle left, actually - is almost 500$. Would you pay that price for TLI if you had TL?
Well, Mark, what do you reckon - Tuscan Leather Intense 100ml is worth 500$ ? I do have TL as well. Is the INTENSE version that much better that it wouldn't be redundant?
Best cheapy, Rasasi's La Yuqaqam. Best not cheapy. Clive C's Man. Mine is an older Clive. Got it from Clive themselves when they were dumping inventory. I think that was back in 2018/19? Montale's Leather Aoud is one also. So,so. I like it better than Golden Boy.
Great review Marc. Maybe i'll check out Godolphin. It's hard to find pdms for a good price nowadays. Btw just in case you pick up TL it is nowhere near the scent people describe from back in the day. Pretty sure it's been neutered. I can't smell a drop of raspberry in this thing nor does it last a full work day either.
Hi Mark, funny to see our hairs turning gray. Now, this scent, like you said, it's not bad, I owned it, like I did Tuscan Leather and leather Ombre and I enjoyed all three of them but... The King of these in my opinion is "C for Men" by Clive Christian, the first version, I haven't smelled the new one. So, my dear friend, what do you think about my beloved "C for Men"? 😊
I understand the similarities, I never thought of it as a clone, to me it’s a different animal, but that’s just my perception. Itzma by Royal Crown is very similar to Godolphin, with dried fruits added, I like both, to me as I said they’re different from Tuscan leather. I find funny how people are so biased when it comes to a fragrance they like, all the fragrances that have pineapple are clones of Aventus, all leather fragrances are clones of TL, is like saying that all Rose Oud fragrances are clones… Thanks for the Unboxing Marc!!!
I think it's relation to the first one you smell and possibly the first successful one that starts the craze. I prefer TL personally as it's stronger, deeper, different in a better way which is why I recommend to go with it. I think the main idea is the same and the small nuances are exactly that, small nuances but they don't make enough of a difference or of a good difference to be better or on the same level.
@@robes08Yes I also prefer TL in fact with Cuoium are my favorite leathers off all time, I agree what you say the first one in its category gets all the credit.
My 100ml of Tuscan Leather is from 2013. Yup, there's a cigar ash note in it, which isn't present in Godolphin, but I don't find them so much different that you can't compare them. I would rather own Rasasi's La Yuqawam. Yup it comes from a house known for clones and in an area with little transparency. But with Rasasi at least you know the CEO and it's annual income.
i respect your honest opinion and reviews but you should stop reviewing pdm's at this point ... you're clearly hating and have a bias ... it's painful to watch
This was my go-to leather layering fragrance for a long ass time. The juice from the older bottles was just so damn smooth on me and projected forever. It was like the super refined version of TL, basic and more tolerable. 😆 Then all the dupes came out using the same accord and it just sort of fell away. Ubiquitous at this point, even in the niche market.
great and honest review as usual. this one is not an "inspired" by Tuscan Leather. it's just a high end clone with only slight twists! to me the pdm house is a bullshit house, backed up by the free bottle brigade...
I have Suede et Safran by Nishane in the tone of Tuscan leather (so I'm told ...I have yet to smell that one sadly hard to come by where I live) one of the first niche frags I bought because I had small decant and it grew on me so much after a few wears that I had to get a bottle...which is why I never bothered to try Godolphin...that and I think I'm pretty sure I don't want another leather right now...(I have like 4 or 5 and it's enough for me)
If PDM was selling bottles for $75 instead of $300, then nobody would even care or consider the house as niche. Only thing niche about PDM is the price and the heavy cap
I don't think the title matters if it's niche or designer tbh. They only really good thing about PDM is ... hmm I guess the bottles and the scents are okay but mostly to me they are known for marketing and they were the trailblazers to utilize "us" (influencers) correctly to cash in.
@@robes08 Yeah Marc, you are being very honest. I am not sure if you love Creed? But, I was never impressed by the hype and iffy legacy they claim to have. Moreover, like PDM as you said Creed too is great in marketing. Ok, I give it to them, they have some revolutionary scents like Aventus and GIT, but even GIT was not unique. I obviously do not own as many bottles as you do, but have a sizable collection, and do not intend to buy any Creed in future as well. With PDM, I am impressed with Herod and Greenly, Shagya are the other two I have which are mediocre at best, especially Greenly. Shagya is at least Vetiver based, so I am ok with it since I love Vetiver, but again is it better than Sultan Vetiver or even TF Grey Vetiver? I don't think so. Would love to hear your opinion on Creeds.
Someone tried to argument with me that Tom Ford took inspiration from PDM. I was like TF came years ahead who did TF took inspiration. Can't make this up.
I had to spray tuscan on a tester for these dumb dumb drones behind the pdm counter when they were tooting their horns about the quality or originality or something idk. I hate to admit it though but I think Oajan is a little bit more masculine than Ambre Narguile and I got it for 170 for 125ml so it is what it is.
You're a bit of a fragrance snob when it comes to PDM. It's fine if you aren't that into them but no need to shit on all of them. A lot of people do like them because of the bottles, likeable scent profile and good performance.
I actually thought this was a pretty positive review regarding PDM. I'll call a spade a spade, you smell like a designer I'll say it, you clone another best seller... I'll call it. So if they continue on that trend then yes I'll continue to point it out.
At least he's saying it. Which means, no free bottles for Marc. I have a couple bottles. I got them way back before they became a household name. Herod and Oajan. I won a contest on Sebastian's channel. Got Herod. Oajan at a discounter. They are an upscaled designer. They are like Wall Street from Bond 9. I compare the houses as being the same model. If I could get Wall Street in the low 1's, I'd pick it up. I would wear that more than the ones I own from PDM.
It was, until they reformulated it. I am holding on to my 77%alc Carlisle. The 82%alc does not worth it. However, Godolphin has its place under the sun. Very nice wear for the office. I also bought Shagya, because I found it unique (a unique PdM...?!) and quite nice for spring, summer and fall (I got it for 50$ in a killer sale). These are the only 3 PdM I need. The rest are either trash, redundant or not worth the price tag.
