This method is much simpler than using paper and allows you to collect data from parents about their children digitally, all in one convenient place. It's a great way to kickstart the year and get valuable insights.
Instead of printing out and sending home paper surveys, I recommend sharing the Google Form with parents during open house events. They can fill it out right then and there, saving you time and avoiding the hassle of collecting and analyzing paper data.
To get started, we'll head to your Drive account, create a new Google Form, and title it as "Parent Survey" along with the respective year. We'll also customize the design of the form by selecting different fonts, colors, and even adding a header image.
For the header image, I suggest using Canva, a free design tool. Search for "Google Classroom header" to find suitable templates. Customize the chosen template to fit your preferences, ensuring it reflects the theme of your survey. Once you're happy with the design, save it and upload it to your Google Form. The form will automatically adjust its color scheme based on the header image, giving it a cohesive look.
Next, we'll move on to adding questions to the form. You have various question types to choose from, such as short answer, multiple choice, check boxes, and more. I provide examples of possible questions you can ask parents, including their child's strengths, hobbies, and sports, as well as their overall feelings about school on a scaling question. Don't forget to toggle the "required" option for mandatory questions.
After finalizing the questions, it's important to prepare a user-friendly link for parents to access the form. I recommend using TinyURL.com to create a shorter and more manageable link, or you can generate a QR code that parents can scan with their phones. This simplifies the process of accessing the form, especially during open house events.
