i'm looking for platforms that have their own lesson plans... i don't have the time to come up with my own! I'm currently on cambly and l love that they have a whole library of materials!! but, you can't make a living on Cambly so have to supplement!! I'm not a teacher by profession. Just want to teach ESL to adults... maybe kids too.

I love how easy and flexible Cambly is. I've worked for them for years, and YES I get almost all my hours filled up that I wanna work. The only think I'm not a huge fan of is the low pay. But hey, it's a great backup job! I love to use it to fill in the gaps in my schedule. I also love that it's always in my back pocket. It sits there and waits for me for months sometimes. It's so flexible!

I would love a video where you explain how you make your own lessons. What curriculum you follow, the order you teach skills in, what activities you use, how you keep track of each student’s progress.

I have been with Cambly since that whole "China thing" happened. It was easy to pivot. I had been with EF prior. Loved EF, so I was very disappointed. I see EF is back on the market, but the pay went way down. I agree with another commenter here that you kind of take Cambly for what it is. I would be happier there if they paid more than $2 for no shows. Perhaps if they charged people more, they would care more about showing up. I worked for regular Cambly first and wasn't too happy. I ran into too many difficult or strange men. Fortunately they have a "hide mode." I was accepted into Cambly Kids a few months after being accepted to Cambly and I like it a lot more. I have been able to keep a fairly full schedule, but it only pays $12 an hour. Their curriculum is pretty good. I really think they should charge more to students and pay teachers better. I have been able to teach Business English to two adult students for over a year. Who knew I was good at that! I have also taught for IELTS and Toefl exams. This is really good content, Kristen. Was looking at amazing talker earlier today, they don't mention anywhere that you need a degree in their documentation, however, the academic degree field is mandatory. Amazing Talker needs a degree even though they don't state it

OPEN ENGLISH has wonderful material. The pay wasn't my favorite, but the company treats their teachers well. I found that they preferred teachers who are bilingual English/Spanish. ALSO those who live in the USA will get better pay. I got less pay because I lived in Mexico at the time

@@KristensClassroom yep if you're outside the US, then you get contracted through a third party. Last I checked, it was Latin Hire. The pay and hours are entirely different. Not sure if that policy has changed in 2023, though. I checked it out again in 2021 or 2022. I haven't worked for them since 2020.

No degree required where I work, Outschool and Cambly. I'm also on AllSchool and Kidpass but I've found very limited success with them. I DO have a degree, but it is not required for these platforms.

@@KristensClassroom yep! We'll I don't do 40 hrs a week coz I'm also a volunteer. I've been teaching English online since 2014, Spanish on Outschool since 2021. I pivoted when ESL in China tanked. I've taught with: Tutor ABC, Open English, Outschool, Cambly, Accent Advisor, Kidpass, Gogokid, and some other mom and pops in China. I don't have a strong RU-vid presence but I'm gonna get there! Wanna collab? (IF I can contribute to your audience and channel)

@@KristensClassroom I accept Cambly for what it is...meaning I don't expect to get rich off it. I love the incredible flexibility and treat it as a backup job. I'm usually earning my full $10 n hour any time I sign up for priority hours, which isn't much because I've got my own businesses on Outschool and TPT. Cambly saved my rear when ESL tanked in China back in 2021. It was SUCH a relief to be able to immediately earn $ when I was fired overnight from GoGokid. ALSO it makes a difference that I spend a lot of time in Mexico, so my dollars go further.

Um. Where'd Lyngo go? I became obsessed with the Japanese language 8 years ago and have reached a conversational level on my own, recently learned about Lyngo and am now researching possibly using it for supplemental income. That being said, I have no degree or teaching experience and though I thought being able to talk to my students in their own language would be an overwhelming advantage a lot of these platforms seem to barely mention it. I would think being unable to talk to them would preclude being able to teach them, though, right? Is there anyone out there with specific feedback on Lyngo or a comparable platform for teaching Japanese speakers English that provides materials and training? I can't do the 15 hours/week required by Skima.

I just want to aim to get around $2,000 a month consistently, what would you say is the best strategy to accomplish that? I'm not afraid to work even 10 hours a day 6 days a week but I wouldn't like a lot of surprises in my schedule if I'm gonna be that busy.
