16:08 The auntie here, I guess, is a Cantonese speaker in daily life from her strong accent when speaking Mandarin. So in the first place she misunderstood your "Lao-Po" (wife) as "Ah-Po" (Grandma). Consequently she's confused: How can you look so un-Chinese but your grandma is Chinese? Then she knew what you said: Your "Lao-Po" is Chinese. Haha~ what a nice and friendly auntie pet-owner. 😅

Great looking area, I really dig the colours and material's used with the plant life. China is getting the blend right as you say and whilst you touch on cars the EU has put a near 50% tax on Chinese EV's yet have been preaching to the public for years about going green to save the environment, so now the narrative changes 🤦🏻‍♂️ it's a 🤡 show of leaders. Couldn't agree more with your closing remarks about highlighting the stuff you enjoy with living life in China which are obviously plenty & less so with making a big deal highlighting faults that's the vogue amongst foreign vloggers on China. I've lived in the Shunde district of Foshan for close to 5 years until Covid. I still keep my apartment & car in Shunde despite relocating back to my home country close to 4 years ago. Good job with your walking tour of Foshan's Lingnan Diandi district as it's a place I visit fairly frequently. If you're a foodie, I would recommend you drop by Shunde to enjoy arguably the world's finest Cantonese cuisine with your family. You'll probably be able to create lots of interesting content with regards Chinese food culture & Cantonese cuisine in particular which is prevalent in the UK & most Chinatowns in the west. Anyway, keep up with the good work & being positive with what you enjoy doing.

Yes, at least China won't turn into a homeless house just because you don't live in an apartment. In many European countries, if a homeless person lives in, it will become a homeless person's house, and you don't have the right to drive them away yet😂

So, here's a suggestion for a video. I think a lot of us don't realize how large China is. Like when you said Foshan, I had to look it up and it's miiiles away from Beijing. I'm thinking now, is Foshan like one of the biggest cities in China? What's special about it? It's really close to Guangzhou, is one a satellite town? I'm personally hoping to visit China one day and it'd be great if you could give a walk-through of the different parts of the country and what's what. 👟
@snide.
@snide. 3 месяца назад
That’s a great comment - and one that’s hard to get across. Foshan is a ‘smaller’ city here - 9,000,000+ population 😂 About an hour’s drive from my part of Foshan to Guangzhou…but you can also drive for hours the other direction and still be in Foshan. Google the plan for the GBA (Greater Bay Area) where all these cities are interconnected, making one mega city. It’s bonkers.

As for vegan, not so sure, but once in the vegetarian restaurant I’m sure there’ll be some options. My family are all vegetarian, and when they visited me in China I just told the waiters in regular restaurants and the dishes were prepped without meat. It’s respected, once it’s made clear what you want and don’t want.

The obsession people have with saying the CCP fund every positive video about China is mad. There are channels which are essentially sponsored by tourist boards, who pay for their travel and accommodation in order for them to make a video (ie Lee Barrett). IMO these channels do come across as a bit unnatural and annoying, but it's the same with travel-and-tourism vloggers in literally any country. You don't see these kind of comments on Visit Dubai sponsored videos even though the UAE spend shitloads of money on influencers because they are desperate to diversify from being an oil state. There are also people who have no affiliation with any state entities who just make a clickbait title and farm clicks from pro-China people and more importantly controversy clicks from the people who comment on every video about it being CCP propaganda. These people will make a load of videos about how great China is compared to the West while they're there, then when they move home they'll make a bunch of videos about how awful China is, and they'll get your clicks both times. They don't have any genuine beliefs, and if you're one of those Sinophobic people hate-watching them, you are just giving them money and attention, and when they inevitably flip to 'your side' they're milking you even more. Haven't finished watching this video so I guess I'll delete this comment if he says something mad, but his last video was clearly his genuine, unscripted thoughts, which I think is why the video got a decent amount of views from people who don't necessarily want ultra-produced content. It's annoying that content about China always has to have this kind of culture war context around it when a lot of the time it's just a normal guy walking around and speaking about where he lives.
@MediaMushroom
@MediaMushroom 2 месяца назад
Having said this, when you talk around 29:00 of the west 'opening the floodgates' to immigrants, I'm not sure how it's covered in China but this is really right-wing western propaganda. Economic and social issues in, for example, the UK, are not caused by immigration. The UK has a lack of essential workers in fields like medicine precisely because of stricter immigration due to Brexit. The UK is failing because the government for the last 50 years has done almost the exact opposite of China. China has been quite protectionist while the UK has sold off or shut down almost every key industry. When Thatcher took power, 3% of the UK's market was US-owned, now it's 30%. The UK coffee chains you mention in this video are all now US-owned. The UK had the opportunity to be a global leader in green energy and oil-industry deconstruction but refused to invest in renewables R&D, now China has taken that role. There are so many reasons the UK is fucked, but immigrants is not really one of them other than the fact that we treat them like shit despite them being refugees from countries we started wars in, and then we wonder why some of them end up having a PTSD episode and attacking someone
@snide.

Thank you fella, you nailed it. I’d make the same content if I lived in Spain or wherever else I happened to be. Having said that, full transparency- I made it partially in reaction to comments such as the ones you mentioned - so there’s an element of incentive there. You may also note that not once did i attribute immigrants to the economic failures of the west…Not all statements are from a ‘wing’ - that’s precisely the issue over there - people attributing a viewpoint to a political stance. Agree with one thing Trump said? Trump fan. Agree with a sentiment of Biden’s? Biden fan. Same for UK politics as well these days. Everyone’s pushed into a team and they have to die on that hill, it’s disgusting! To anyone reading - please refrain from doing that with me.
