I really appreciate all your video's about the publishing industry. It's so great to know that books are being curated by such amazing, passionate people! Thank you :)
This is so helpful. I’m pursuing a job in publishing. It’s all I want to do: Work with books. Ive been applying for years and never had an interview. Sometimes it’s so disheartening but maybe I’m too tunnel visioned about editorial and should look at other avenues. Thanks both for discussing and I will definitely be subscribing and checking out your other videos.
Hard same on how much it takes out of you to be the only black or brown person in the room while working in the arts - always weirdly relieving to hear someone else acknowledge that extra challenge we're made to deal with ✊
I loved this videos, as all the other videos you make about the publishing industry! Particullary like you cover so much practical information but also a little bit of representation! Thanks Sanne :)
Ah I wish I could come to the book club! I'm going back home for my masters graduation that day... Hope you do another! I'll definitely be there 😊 I also just started a job in science publishing as an commissioning editorial assistant. It's really interesting to watch these videos! 😊
This video is sooo useful and informative! Please continue making these publishing videos! 💛 I also really love that you bring in people from the industry 🤗
I love these "insight" videos - it's one thing hearing about it, but hearing it directly from people involved in it is so helpful! I sent a 'cold' email to Knights Of last August and I think I sent a postcard too (as an illustrator) ~ didn't hear back but who knows, I hope I'm in their files :)
Knights of is an amazing publisher and I am keeping all fingers crossed for their massive success, so it was great to hear from Eishar! (Also hi to High Rise!) I also think this is such a great series of videos. I wanted to ask a question about getting into publishing after having a career in another sector (library) - is it possible to start not on the entry level but higher? Obviously the experience is different, but do you think there are similarities? Did anyone ever done it? Ta!
Ahh, a year later and this is still my favorite series to date. 😍 is there a possibility that you’ll continue with future guests over video chat? I’d love to gain some insight on a career as a book publicist since I’m torn between that and editorial.
Commissioning, from beginning to end? Is that the same meaning as I'm thinking about family portraits, or does it mean something different in UK publishing? Do you have hungry author sharks circling for a bite of a commission? How do you find the right author for an idea that starts in editorial?? So fascinating!
+Maritina Xánthe Hey! If you’re interested in social media in publishing I recommend watching my video about my publishing career, in which I go into more detail about my degree and experience. And Eishar shares her career journey in this video. :)
