100% agree about Wharton’s characters getting caught in despair.

I always wish I could get on board with her fiction more, because her writing is stunning. I'm enjoying her autobiography, A Backward Glance, so much!

These books are so charming! It's so amazing you have a signed copy of Osa's book! That is so special! I've been using Hobonichi books for years! My favorite is the Cousin that has a monthly, weekly planner plus a page for every day of the year for drawing and journaling. It's so convenient and an easy way to memory keep and plan for me. I hope you enjoy your first Hobonichi!

(Melanie here) I agree about Edith Wharton but this is one that is different! It is Glimpses of the Moon. I hope you try it. It is such a sweet romance. I loved it.

I agree with you on Austen/Wharton. Austen's deep rooting in faith really adds that depth that I don't see I Wharton's fiction. Now I want to check out her nonfiction. I got a lovely copy of That Printer of Udell's by Harold Bell Wright and "The Science of Murder" about the forensics of Agatha Christie.

Hans Brinker. Great classic Wonderful World of Disney movie from the 60s. Disney+ may have it not sure but so good. Love used books and bookstores. Those are great finds and gifts. So exciting to find a book on your list when perusing shops and sales.

So sweet that you got your first Hobonichi Weeks. I have the exact same cats one. Hobonichis are a staple in Japanese stationery and beloved all around the world. They use thin Tomoe River Paper which is fountain pen friendly nonethelesss. I got Babel by R.F. Kuang which I think you would love as it is set in Oxford´s academia around 1830. I also got Dickens` David Copperfield as a Penguin English Classics edition and a beautiful antique edition of Our Mutual Friend with marbled covers and endpapers and the original sketches.

I am so glad you FINALLY got the FOUR YEARS IN PARADISE giraffe print! AND SIGNED! What an AMAZING gift! ❤❤❤❤ Books I got for Christmas was ALL of Jane Austen's works, a book of stories and myths from Ireland involving cats, and a certain book three about a fun cat named Cymbeline. 😁 I gifted my mom THE AWAKENING OF MISS PRIM, which book YOU introduced to me years ago (via your review on it!) and she loves it! ❤❤❤❤

Happy New Year, Emma! Such a wonderful collection of books you received for Christmas - your family knows you well! I'm so curious to hear what you think of Edith Wharton's non-fiction - every time we visit the Newport mansions I debate picking up The Decoration of Houses. She was certainly a fascinating character and while I do enjoy her fiction, (though, I agree it is despairing at times), I'm also intrigued by her non-fiction work. When we visited the Mount a few years ago, I had also picked up a beautiful Virago modern classics collection of her Ghost Stories which were a treat to read during the fall!

Happy New Year, Alley! I'm loving her autobiography, A Backward Glance, so much, and I've really enjoyed her collected letters as well. I read a few of the Ghost Stories one October, they're fun!

I got a few classics for Christmas but nothing as special as yours. Thanks for the video. I just found out one of my fav. classic booktubers died and I am still in a little bit of shock. Your video took my mind off it for a few moments.

I was so shocked and saddened to see the news about Jennifer Brooks - she was one of our original Febregency co-hosts, and it was so wonderful to get to know her through booktube and the readathon. She will be missed!
