I hope you enjoyed the video! I completely forgot to turn my lapel mic on at the start, but have done my best to get the audio as clear as possible. Won't happen again!
It's been awhile since I've been on yt you've been busy lately mate hope you're having fun we may have to playup at the drags one night I'm currently looking for a panel van ill do my secret recipe to the xflow I'd suggest it would be door handle to door handle match up and a bloody good laugh for a couple of ol fellas lol
Great job mate - quite a while ago now, I paid an exhaust shop to put a redback exhaust, 100 cell cat and extractors on a VCT XR6. Who knew that this was such an easy job!... I'll definitely remember your video if I buy another AU (who am I kidding, I've had 5 AUs - of course I'll eventually buy another one 😅).
I just like how this guys does it - if you compare to say Scotty, whos annoying prattle and "you can do it with just two spanners" which is BS, this guy is solid.
Terrific vid mate. Only issue with feedback is the thin wall tube they use. They rust out reasonably quickly. Best option is to ceramic coat them inside and out. A smear of rtv high temp on the head to extractor gasket is highly advisable. Lastly, the heat shield is essential. Without it the heat will burn the bonnet insulation and melt the loom that runs down the driver side inner guard. I learnt this the hard way. Love ya work champion
I got the whole kit for 4480's, a high flow stainless cat and redback exhaust for $1.1K with my tax return and can definitely say, they made a big improvement over stock and paired with a nice chrome tip looked great. After a few heat cycles it really set in nice and has a great note! Redbacks are also another great option though and pleased to see you enjoy yours 👍🏻
Reminds me when I got extractors fitted to my LPG 245 Chrysler CL sedan because the factory manifold leaked and I count couldn't find another. It sounded sporty and accelerated off the line quicker bit I missed the original Valiant sound which was so distinctive.
man that seems like a way better improvement than I would have thought! I have a brand new set of those headers sitting in the shed, had them for years now (went to a 5.0 windsor before I got around to installing them... also improved the sound alot)
i personally love the deep non raspy sound of the stock headers but the performance gain is a no brainer, 1 sec to 100 is a huge deal with no tune etc, and with equal length headers the exhaust pulse waves acutally really help to suck the gases out of the oposing cylinder and with really good "tuned length" headers it can auctally case a vaccum on the cylinder ready to suck the next lot of air in, really good setups on some euro cars have seen gains eqal to 7psi more cylinder pressure with good headers. its like a bolt on budget turbo haha.
I couldn’t agree more with your description of the improvements both in sounds and performance Sean. Finished installing a full system on my AU too (took me a while) & agree it’s probably the single most cost effective mod for the old Intech. Love your work!
I'm running a herrod 2.5 inch exhaust along with the factory tickford longtube headers from the EF/El xr6 (factory cat delete) in my AU vct engine the sound is amazing and very noticeable power increase from the low to mid range and much better fuel economy It was a complete bolt on affair along with factory original appearance this mod was a complete Win in my books 2
Damn a second differnece that pretty impressive actually. Ive seen someone messure results on a proper cold air intake set up (actually breathing in outside air) and they managed to shave off half a second so. With redisgned proper cold air intake, headers, high flow cat and exhaust its safe to say you can take off about 1.5 seconds on a 0 to 100 without a tune and maybe 2 seconds with a tune. Thats definitely impressive for stock power
Good video as usual! i had a set of these headers on an EF falcon and i had constant issues with them overheating the sensor in the steering rack and then they would leak. the last time it happened the sensor failed and power steering fluid sprayed out and caught fire. Luckily no damage to car other than the brake booster. after that i ended up removing the sensor and fitted a grub screw into it. just something to watch out for.
Love the sound with the new extractors.I had a full redback system with extractors, cats and duel outlets on my vy calais. It completely transformed the car.
Our AU XR6 2 had been fitted with headers and a 3-inch system all the way to the back I don't know about power, but the beast sounded just like a V8 so much so people had to look twice at the badge I knew when the wife was coming home because it vibrated windows as it cruised by.
I’m running pacemakers and a 2 1/2 system on my EA S pack it’s running an EF Tickford motor, the exhaust is definitely the first thing to change on these sohc engines as the stock system is very restrictive.
Many years ago I knew of an Au S1 that had the standard log manifold, gutted out cat, de fillipo 2.5 cat back with just the single muffler (straight through rear section) and that thing sounded more like a chev than a 6 pot when it was being given the beans.
Im running the 4480 extractors & a 100 cell hi flow cat with the 2.5" red back exhaust with the rear resonator deleted & a twin 2.5" tip on the rear....sounds very good one the foot is put down👍
Hi, back when i was much younger, i bought a beater xw falcon 3.6 from a wrecker for $400 with rego, diamond white black trim, the trim was swapped later with a bloke that worked at the petrol station i filled up, be had a glamour XY fairmont v8 with blue trim, anyway right or wrong he wanted my black trim, he offered to do the swap and fill p my car with fuel and give me a case of beer, i told him i dont drink and i would be happy for the fuel Strange part is his trim was 99% perfect and my black trim way about 70% good and the front seats sagged Anyway, i had that car for 8 years and it cost me almost noting except for the 6 month oil and filter changes that i done myself. One day mum comments on the cat makes noises and what had happened is the engine pipe had a burn hole on the front bend i let it go for a few weeks, one day in chatting the bloke i swaped the trim wife ( still 100% happy ) said he will check with the repair shop come back next week I went back and they had a used pacemaker extractor from a customer car who went from 6 to 8 - they fitted it all for basically free lunch ( maccas or kentucky ) Wow - the car drove really good, it chirped on flat to the floor 1 > 2 shifts standing start , in comparison if felt like the car before was running a dead cylinder or the handbrake was on It now reminds me of everyold school trick was holley 350, gt40 coil, extractors, and turn the air filter lid upside down - a no frills power upgrade
Subbed and another happy viewer ... Your relaxed and fun vibe is great to watch . And now as I'm a proud owner of an fgx xr6 , I'll be watching more 🎉😊😅
The down side to recording engine sounds is that they never sound as good in videos compared to in real life. Would love to hear that for real. Also that engine those good with those headers on on it. Also great video as always.
Hello mate, you might be interested in this, I've a 2002 Tickford Fairlane Ghia, factory black paint. Also a factory mobile phone holder that folds out from the centre storage box, it folds forwards and swings round to the left and the lid can then be closed, it's grey and unnecessarily bulky imo.
Your exhaust manifold came off easier than the one on my car I may have irritated my neighbor's slightly by starting my AU with no cat or exhaust to heat the manifold up it was loud it's a great challenge trying to remove a hot exhaust manifold I had to use a rattle gun to rattle my one-off and it was still a battle to get it off I broke three of my cheap sockets I got to the point where a gas axe starting to become a good idea
The SOHC sounds better than the Barra! Im running equal length HM headers with hi flow cat and 3 muffler 2.5 inch exhaust on my AU wagon. No drone and not loud and at 503,000kms still goes well for what it is.
Tidy upgrade Sean! For the love of your plastic brake booster though, please refit that heat shield! Ask me why I know :) Let us know if you want to try a mild tune on it! Cheers, Jason
I’d be keen for a one of your “quiet drive” videos in this car with the new exhaust/headers. Maybe with multiple mic placements for inside/outside sound. I think that would be really cool!
Two things almost nobody mentions. 1 - the coolant hoses that go through the firewall near the steering column (if doing on a BA or BF, not sure about AU) sit about 1 inch away from the rear extractor pipe and boils faster than a pan of water on a gas stove. 2 - all extractors sit the exhaust closer to the transmission than the stock ones, and for all you peeps that remove the cat and heat shield, to run a high flow cat - guess where all that heat is transferred to - yep, the transmission just 2 inches away. - wrap the extractors and the exhaust near the transmission, and run a trans temp gauge to keep an eye on it, or you'll not think about it and one day you'll tow a trailer and KA BANG - bye bye gearbox. Also deal with your coolant hoses close to the back extractor before you run that motor too hot too, heat shield them with the stuff plumbers use to insulate hot water pipes, and wrap those headers!!!!! Don't Fk your car up with an "unfinished exhaust mod"
Nice stuff mate. Been getting into Hagerty recently, Davin finishes off his Redline episodes with this fantastic little piece for anyone who wrenches on their own car: "Go out to the shop, go get your work done".
Yeah definitely the best bang for buck! I just did a video myself on the differences between dual redback mufflers and delete both the front and back and also both delete pipes together on BA dramatic differences between each one hey! Love your videos mate👌
I tried the 4480's, high flow cat and 2.5 redback on my AU and hi flow intake and I actually removed it all and just kept the cat back. The 4480's lost power down low enough so I couldn't even spin the wheels and my 0-100 time was worse.... it was much faster up top but seriously when do you drive a falcon flat out over 100kmh??? The stock setup was better down low and better on fuel. Oh but I have the 4480's with 3in collector, no cat and 3in side exhaust on my AU race car and she loves it.
I would say that unless you’re chasing the last fraction of horsepower the difference between PM and RB is going to be negligible. I much prefer the finish on the Redback. Ceramic coating might be an alternative to the heatshield if budget permits… otherwise just keep a close eye on your overflow tank.
Just ordered a car back system yesterday for my el, next is headers and cat just like what you’ve done. Will I be seeing you at the Ipswich laps on Saturday?
Shaun once again you have delivered a top quality video. Love it my EB with an vct motor in it also sounds as good. Only difference is i have pacemaker extractors and high flow 🐈 with a straight through muffler. Sounds just as good as yours mate. Abd i did mine 10yrs ago. And now i went to start it after about 1yr and the fuel pump is dead so have one coming hopefully this week. I miss that sound Cant wait for your next video. But with better 🎤 😄 🤣
Should put some exhaust studs in makes so much easy only cost 80 bucks cnc and treated and coated great product. I bet ya exhaust ports where black running rich.one problems with au engine 0 degree timing not good to much unburnt fuel.got au engine in xg ute great engine just needs a few tweaks then wacth out.peace
I was just looking and I found a 2005 mitsubishi 380 for 2.5k on carsales and thought you may be interested it's 280,000km not sure If that's too many but the seller is located 4hrs from Ipswich.
That's just a spare flange which an exhaust shop can use to start building the exhaust from. You won't need it if you're just bolting your exhaust up to it.
was that old time of 8.8 done with the 2.5" sports system? was the gain u made of 1 seconds all from the headers and cat or is it also from a better flowing sports system?
Your channel with videos like this helped me come to the decision to restore my au glad I did would love for you to see it once I'm done as i live local
@@ny45458 that's a spare flange for an exhaust guy to weld onto the end of your exhaust to help join them together. My exhaust fitted up as it is so I didn't use it.
Sound issues? Doesnt sound as good as your other videos. Car looks great 👍 Edit: Sound (speaking) is only different in the garage, In car sounds great, Car however sounds awesome with the new headers.
No it fits well, with slight bending. You can only attach it with the top 2 (3? I forget how many) bolts, as the one down the bottom has nothing to screw into. But it fits well, doesn't rattle and looks great.
I bought a Ranchero 6 months ago and had one months driving out of it. I,ve bought two gearboxes 3 with mine and it's to expensive to repair. I would love to change this to a manual , but unfortunately cannot find a box plus change of assessories to do this. It's such a great car , but !!! because I,m a South African and Australia don't make these anymore , I,m stuck with a car without a driving force / train , and it's becoming an elephant feature at my house. It's so frustrating and humiliating to endure such hardships ... suppose I,ll end up cutting it into a walled feature ...
I fitted the same system except I have wildcat headers. Can I ask about the dandy cat did you hookup the rubber mount from the dandy cat to the car or did you just bolt it all up?
@@MotoringBoxTV Yes when I fitted it the other week I had the exact same thought. And I just thought I’d ask as I noticed you didn’t hook it up in your video thanks for getting back to me 👍 And I luv your videos m8!
