No one, including ResMed or Philips, should have access to anybody's medical data without written permission from the patient. If what the companies are doing, collecting your data without permission isn't illegal, it ought to be - in my opinion.
Hi Everyone, i just want to clarify something. I'm 100% okay with companies collecting / 'safely' storing / using / distributing you health data so long as they ask for your permission to do so or at the very least, give you a heads up that they are in fact doing it. Given the choice, most of you would probably be happy to help the likes of ResMed improve their products and services by providing your sleep health information but when companies just assume they have the right to YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH DATA and collect it without proper informed consent? I don't think it's ethically right. Cheers
Just to give you an update nick for your CPAP viewers I live in Massachusetts and Medicare just sent me an email that it’s The suppliers responsibility to replace or repair your machine if it’s less than five years old and if you have a machine that’s five years older Medicare would pay for it
Very easy to respond. I removed the WiFi chip. Now if my Dr. want's to know what is going on, she can simply ask me. I also removed the Resmed app on my cell phone
4.26.21 I just watched this video . I will re watch it, take notes and get back to you! NO, I don't like them knowing more than I agreed to. I will be back. BIG THANKYOU!
I just submitted a request for Resmed to leave you alone. They don’t realize how much free advertising you provide them. I’m in the USA. My sleep study was set up online. The results went to my MD. Now I’m waiting on a phone call to see which machine is best for me. You are a treasure. You are the educator that I haven’t had. Thank you so much for what you do.
Hi Shelley, wow, thank you so much for your amazing support! So here's the thing...If your MD is a good MD he won't actually tell you which machine is 'best' He will provide you with resources so you can make up your own mind :-). Or you can always ask me hahaha. Cheers. Nick
I sussed this out not long after I bought my airsense 10. Had a leaky mask and started getting emails from the manufacturer providing tips on how to fix it. Sounds really helpful but being in a technical occupation immediately I was concerned about privacy. Within a week I had pulled the machine apart, disconnected the modem and asked the manufacturer to delete the data. Unfortunately the big companies are getting bolder and bolder with this sort of thing.
Hi Russell, thanks for your great comment. I Agree that it's definitely helpful and it has to be said that it has really improved patient outcomes and compliance but i still don't think that justifies the automatic collection, storage and use of someones sleep health data without asking their permission. It's just ethically poor business practices in my opinion. They would probably find if they informed people in a nice and honest way that most people would probably opt into the service if they knew it was helping make the products better etc. Cheers
It’s a two sided issue. Opt-in in regards to HIPAA in the USA for patient privacy, insurance companies are already removing benefits from non-compliant patients. Our insurance system is already irretrievably broken and inaccessible to so many people it’s a human rights violation. On the other hand, data analysis is the cornerstone of cpap therapy. More data means recognizing more previously undetected diseases processes and opens a door to treat those issues. Billions of nights of data is far more than any single sleep lab or doctor has seen in a routine care setting. That is a massive benefit of data collection. The other option is to buy a machine outright (which I did myself) because dealing with the insurance company and all their red tape is a nightmare. Being able to get one is a privilege most Americans cannot afford financially as we no longer have a middle class. Patients should not ever be forced to share their private health details with any corporate overlord, ever. If patients want to opt-in for the connectivity, DIY treatment, beta testing new algorithms, that is an incentive worth pursuing. But simply collecting data and never rolling out updates, new tech on existing machines in the field, or releasing a new machine with nothing more than a facelift puts ResMed kind of on my poo list now. Such a let down. Their app sucks too.
If my sleep data were to reveal that I require cpap therapy to function effectively, I would be more concerned about how that data could be used. My case is quite mild, though. On the other hand, any data - regardless of how weak it is - can be used as a justification for a denial of an insurance claim, and fighting that determination would add billable hours to a defence attorney's invoice. 🤔
Thanks for the 'heads up," I had no idea. But yes, 'pulling the plug' on the Modem board is easy peasy, if one has a torx10 driver, and is gentle with the front face.
ResMed is emulating Apple in involuntary data gathering. I take exception at having no say or offered the option to allow permission in used and storage data. Being a medical worker myself I probably would allow collection of my data for use in improving product and software development. Also I resent the notion that I may be somehow penalised for making self determinations on instrument clinical settings.
I see your comment was 1 yr ago...hope you get this... I never thought about me making personal changes on the clinical settings could be an issue! I have changed a few things on the clinical setting, but not my air pressure. How and where do you see that I would be penalized for doing so?
@@jammiewha5942 Thanks, I am still around. A bit of context might be required for you to understand my assertions regarding penalisation for self management of air pressures. In some jurisdictions this is strictly the prerogative of a clinician and any self management is prohibited and can result in loss of insurance or in cases such as pilots, truck drivers, train drivers etc the loss of employment.
EXCELLENT video! This guy raises many important points, especially data breaches. There are only TWO TYPES of data: data that HAS been stolen, and data that WILL be stolen. There is NO privacy on the internet. (Be sure to 'like' the video!)
On one hand I am ok if they kept it internally and made better cpap machines or better machine algorithms. However not giving me the choice to opt out is crap, sharing it with the government or insurance companies is crap. I removed the modem out of mine because F them and I dont want a constant radio signal right next to my head all night either.
@@CPAPReviews In my part of Sweden we rent the machine from the public healthcare for a symbolic sum, this is good if it will brake down you will get a new one. I don't think they will appreciate if you took it apart so the Air plane mode sounds much better. But do we know it's not sending any data in that mode?
@@hellaslundblad It may not be sending data but it could be receiving. They hacked into my machine (which was on Airplane mode) and woke me up until I disconnected the modem.
Resmed Airsense 10; just use “airplane” mode. My options, airplane mode, on. Or move to a very rural area like mine where there is no AT&T cell towers. I have Verizon towers nearby but it doesn’t like them and won’t transmit on mine. Ticks off my sleep doctor. Oh well. They always ask me to take my machine to the big city and plug it in long enough for them to get the data. I keep forgetting….probably brain fog from sleep apnea. My last one accepted screen shots of what I wanted her to see from OSCAR. I would never allow a doctor to fool with my pressures online. That’s crazy talk.
I was driving across I90 in Southern Michigan on an afternoon, a car ahead started drifting lanes, I blew my car horn, they woke and drove a few more miles, started drifting, I blew horn until they pulled off the road.
Thanks, in our litigious world this is indeed food for thought - I'm going to research more as well as listen to video again . It'd be nice to have a mac8ne that prints it out or s3nds it to you but you still might have same problem of privacy. The data does help to know if you need to change parameters.
Hi there, appreciate that. Yes data is of course very important and i agree that you should have the capabilities of downloading and printing your own data. You can purchase the software they use to do the reports and it's not that expensive. It's called ResScan for ResMed and Encore for Philips Respironics. Retails for about $30 here in Australia. Have a great day Nick
Hi Nick. Great video. In Portugal, we have laws about personal data and companies have to comply with it. So, whenever you buy or engage with companies you would have to allow (in written form) them to have access and manage your data. Nevertheless, my question is: I have the Resmed Airsense 10 and I have the option of "flightmode" - doesn't this prevent data to be sent to the cloud?
Hi Bruno, nice to see the videos are reaching far and wide in this great world of ours. Hello from Melbourne . Yes if you switch the machine to flight mode it will prevent wireless data transmission. I imagine ResMed will promt you to switch it off frequently which can become annoying. They should really provide a menu option to disable the cellular connection. Best wishes. Nick
@@CPAPReviews Yes... I just got off the phone with a medical equipment company since I'm researching which brand to use and you can put the unit into Airplane mode to stop it from sending your data "at will", though the moment you take your SD card to your doctor and he/she enters the data into the "system", it all gets sent to the private company!!! This should be illegal!!! I'm in the US by the way. I hope to find a model that does NOT do this, but stores it locally and keeps it local and private between my doctor and me like it SHOULD be!
Its an invasion of my privacy. Yes, I want to disconnect my modem. Tell me how. My sleep date will show that I need to refill the tiny water tank in the middle of every night because RedMed refuses to make a larger tank that will get me thru the night. 12 oz of water is not enough and they must know that. Their Air Curve 10 is designed not to work properly. I don't know why
Hi Clay, Instead of taking the modem out you can just switch the device to 'flight mode' which will deactivate the cellular connectivity :-). If you want to completely remove it, here's the vid - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dpI0AVoCG3M.html. It's pretty simple
My dreamstation has a modem too. I was told it’s for the supplier to see if I’m using the machine the number of hours my medical Insurance requires for them to cover the therapy.
I do also and pulled the modem out. Provider said I could give needed info over the phone. Not only are breaches possible but it would give hackers or provider access to your network and connected devices.
Hi Guys, i need your help. One of the big cpap manufacturers is trying to take down the CPAP Reviews channel. Who knows what the next few days will bring. I know many of you don't like Facebook so here's a link to my newsletter. I will not spam you but will let you know where you can find me. Stay safe and look out for one another as i know you all will. Nick
I am in NSW and had notified then RTA/now Service NSW. So far I've only had to provide a medical from a GP every year. He does however get me to print out my sleep data and keep copies. My specialist only wants to see me if there's a problem. The annual medical is a PITA and you only get around a month's notice. I have done the right thing, but part of me wishes I'd never notified.
BTW, with Apple watches, the data that's sent to apple actually has to be turned on by the user. It comes off but the option is to let them have the data to improve the user experience. But, you have a choice in settings.
It's a good point although i think every company would claim that the data is used to make 'better equipment' but i think that's probably the tip of the iceberg.
Thanks for all you do Nick. I have two questions about the 11 maybe you can answer. 1. Can airplane mode be easily activated like it is on the 10? 2. Does it run on the same 24v power that the 10 does? I have a resmed 12v adapter for my 10 that changes 12v to 24v. But I would prefer not having to up convert 12 to 24. Do you have a source for that info or a 12v power supply cord for us RV folks?

Hi Kelly. That's great to know and i'm sure many people would probably feel the same way. There are some people who are not fine with it and that's also 100% okay. It's not really about who's okay with it and who's not though, it's that you don't even get a choice to decide and you should have that choice as it's your health data at the end of the day. Cheers
I’ve been an RT for 13 years and I’ve always asked permission for the modem to be on their machine. It’s just been standard protocol all of the places I’ve worked.
I have also been using CPAP for many yrs, on and off. I have had 4 or 5 therapy companies I have worked with, and NEVER have I been asked if it was ok to share my data with them, ResMed, or anybody else. If this supposed to be “standard protocol” where you live, may or ask what country you are in? Apparently there is nothing to protect the patient in the United States.
I have a CPAP because I am a train driver and my employer forced me to use it. I must admit though that I hadn't thought about having to tell Service NSW for my car license. There's a lot to take away from this vid. Thanks.
Hay!! From Texas. As a airline pilot I have been monitored for years ( 6:30 a night every night 365 or Uncle Sam says you can't work.) and have enjoyed the ease of use of the ResMed WiFi.. But that stops the day they make it cellular and store it in the cloud. But its not just the Cpap machine. Garage door openers tell the cloud when you came home. Your doorbell tells the cloud whos at your door and everything on all your computers and cellphones is stored in the cloud.
I have no problem with my data being saved, shared and stored AS LONG AS the data is used in an anonymous and aggregated fashion - ie personally identifiable information linking the data to me as an individual is removed. At that point the data is just numbers that may well be useful for research (or to better tailor my treatment) but cannot be used against me.
Hi Reuben, such a great comment. I don't believe that's the case unfortunately but like you i would have no problem with that too. I've actually not got a problem with identifiable data also as long as permission has been granted from the person who the data belongs too. I don't like the premise that these companies feel like it's their right to have access to it. It's my property, it's my information and it should be my right to say No to the collection of it. Have a great day. Nick
You could always build a Faraday Cage to go around your CPAP. It would still need airflow so don't wrap the entire thing in tinfoil ! A big metal pasta strainer should do the trick. Also, make sure your Insurance has paid off the machine. Otherwise they could charge you for the machine.
It was the worst thing I ever did was let QLD tmr know I have sleep apnea. I need a medical examination by my sleep specialist every year and submit it to QLD tmr. The Min requirement is average of 4 1/2 hrs sleep therapy per night. Otherwise I will have my heavy vehicle licence temporarily suspended on medical grounds. I don't think they suspended car C class. But yes in the event of accident the insurance company can demand to see any sleep apnea data. My machine does not transmit it anywhere. But I still need to download the data and email it to my specialist. I guess the good news is when your in control of your own data let's just say my machine malfunctioned and I could only retrieve one week of data showing above average use 😁 then that's what has to be accepted. I think everyone should have an option to opt in or out of supplying data to a company like resmed.
Hate companies taking my personal information without allowing me an option. Google is hugely ugly to me in how pervasive they intrude into collecting information. I opt out of almost everything I can garner, that companies save and sell, share my info. From my electric company, credit card, and grocery app. What are we to do if not given an option.... is to make our own best decision. I would love to be able to disable my modem. But my insurance and my doctor need me to be held compliant in my health care for now.
I have my CPAP for 6 months never got one phone call from my doctor even though I had some pretty s***** nights of sleep with high aph raging 8-10 per hr Therefore if they're not going to call me to make changes I'm just going unplug my Bluetooth on my device once I'm out of the one-year contract with my insurance.
Thanks Nicko for your brilliant channel, I really appreciate all the help and info you give. This data stuff is really out there and goodness knows what it’s leading to. From a childhood of relative simplicity and calm, in the last 60 yrs people have started running around like blue arsed flies and the mind has boxed up everything just about and especially us, we are just little data boxes to them. But, we are all human beings and that’s what we as the human race have to find again, I guess it’s up to us ultimately if we want to stay on this beautiful planet. Oh oh, now I’m rambling, you’re not a Gemini are you ? 😁🤗😅
Haha, thanks Joe, i've had the donation link in my vids since 2012 and still saving up. Very generous bunch the cpap viewers (jokes). Cheers brother. Nick
As someone who sees sleep apnea patients regularly, imagine what would happen regularly if people with sleep apnea are not using their devices on the roads. Not too long ago there was a severe accident that involved a celebrity where several people died because the truck driver supposedly had sleep apnea and was not using his cpap machine causing him to fall asleep behind the wheel. Look at the number of trucks on the road and if even half of them have sleep apnea and not using their cpap machine, how safe do you think the roads would be then. Or if even a third of airline pilots were flying planes and unable to stay awake while flying
I pulled the modem out of my DS. The app for DS is Bluetooth. I’m sure data is captured there. I used that data to make adjustments to my machine. I debated leaving RM in airplane mode. The screen showing the airplane mode was too annoying. The RM app is pointlessly stupid and provides me no data I need. However, new insurance “compliance” needs to be proven for supplies. If I can disconnect the very weak cellular receptor, I would. I don’t like cellular next to my head. Nor do I like that the new sleep therapist could change the settings from how I set it.
I've only been on my CPAP for a couple of weeks, so still getting used to it. I don't recall there being an airplane mode! I definitely need to look into this! Here in the U.S., doesn't our HIPPA laws protect us from this?
Nope. A friend had cpap in the closet for 4 years. Just restarted cpap on his own, in airplane mode. He got an email from the company, stating they didn't receive data.
As soon as my insurance pays off the lease for my machine I will disconnect the data. I won't download the app, that gives them so much more data from your phone.
Living in VIC also mate.. can i just say as a truckie, i have to have a assessment every 2 years for my VIC truck licence, apart from that i'm left alone by them.. Question for you i have the S9 machine and thinking of getting the Airsence 10 or should i wait for the 11 to arrive in Aust?
1. I think data collection is a good idea, from the point of long-term studies, aggregated data trends, etc. 2. I think most people would be happy to share that data. 3. There really needs to be a manual switch to turn it off. I'm not really sure how it's legal that a manual switch is not included, especially in countries, states, provinces with something like GDPR. 4. I don't like the crappy gamification emails I get telling me I've won a bronze badge every x nights for various reasons. Weak sauce. 4. a. Making it so you get more "points" or better "rating" if you don't get up to pee might cause some people to hold it all night long when they really should get up to pee. Because you should get up and pee if your body tells you to pee. 4. b. Getting up only once or twice in a night means you get one grace nap during the day and one time to get up during the night to pee. Forget that kids need something, or the dog needs to pee at 3am. And some people don't have a single sleep cycle. This forces some people to try to sleep in one long 8-hour swath, which is not a natural cycle in 40% of sleepers. The game indoctrinates a mythical standard -- the 8-hour sleep period -- a standard that is not well founded and possibly encourages unnatural sleep patterns for some sleepers. 4. c. Gamification of your health can go horribly wrong when people using the game aren't well-enough versed in sleep medicine to know that the game rules can't be applied to everyone. ResMed really should abandon gamification beyond making sure you get more than four hours of sleep per night. 5. One positive thing about sleep data records in the cloud is that if you are even in need of an alibi for a time when you're generally asleep, you can always pull up the data showing your sleep apnea data. If you have particularly unique data, it makes it even more genuine. For instance, it's almost impossible to fake all centrals or various other breathing patterns that only you are likely to create. 6. One negative thing is, as you pointed out, accident insurance companies could get hold of the data and use it against you. Even health insurance companies could up your rates because of data from your cpap records. That sucks. Breathe safely out there!
Hey Nick, Do you know if the dreamstation 2 has a sd card slot? I heard that the resmed 11 will not. I use Oscar to check my progress and tweak my machine so I hope that they don’t do away with the sd card.
Yeah the DS2 does although in a strange sort of spot. It also has like a hidden little usb connector but it's really hard to find (probably on purpose). You really only need your AHI values at the end of the day mate and it's not something you need to check that often (once a month perhaps) and if it's an auto then probably even less. Put it this way, the body can put up with a hell of a lot of abuse (Keith Richards for example) and a few periods of abnormal breathing is not going to have a big impact on your health and well being so don't get to fanatic about the whole thing. Cheers mate. Nick
Unfortunately, the DS2 is not currently compatible with OSCAR, i.e., it will not read the data from the SD card. The OSCAR developers are working on making it work with the DS2, but I haven't heard anything on how long it will take.
Just got CPAP machine #3 (Res Med 10). I asked the staff member about compliance checking. He told me here in the USA, it's 4 hours per night, for at least 22 times a month for 3 months, Then the insurance will cover the cost. What I didn't know is insurance will cover supplies. I was covering them out of pocket previously. Also concerning the data harvesting location has to be included, I'm sure. I wonder if Michael Faraday could be of help here?
Hi Paul, no you can not. It uses a cellular modem which connects to the cell towers automatically. The only thing you can do is to put it in flight mode or take it apart and take out the cell modem - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DESXRIozdLQ.html
In Resmed 11, you can put machine on airline mode. Should do when travelling with it. In Canada I was told the data is encrypted and sent to my sleep docs. However they don't upfront tell you this. I asked because I work in IT field. I asked about getting my data and they said no. However I have a Fitbit premium which gives very detailed sleep data. That spurred me to look into sleep apnea in the first place! My insurance only covered 1 time purchase.
I wonder how what percentage of CPAP machines are purchased, in whole or in part, by insurance. If insurance helped pay for it, then it does have a claim on that data too. I just wish with all that data they've gathered they'd be able to figure out a better algorithm by now.
When I got m y DS1 back in 2015; my clinic requested that I return the modem to them after a one month slot. With that Philips hasn't seen anything since 2015; ditto with my last clinic when I was prescribed the DS1
I'm quite grateful that my AS10 doesn't have a modem and only has a SDcard. Granted I should probably upload my data to Sleep HQ before the card fills up too much so that way I will be able to save an offline page to share with my sleep medicine specialist to let him see how I'm doing.
I just started using Dreamstation and didn’t realize that the tech preset and locked my settings and didn’t ask what temp I want the humidity , it’s too hot for me and there is no setting in set up for me to change to a cooler heat setting 😰
Hi there, here's a video i did on it - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0BhrJPDq_5s.html It will enable you to access the clinical menu where there's a lot more options for you :-). Feel free to hit me up if you need any assistance. Take care
Interesting points indeed! I do have one question though please? How does your platform handle our data? Apologies if it's been aswered before, I'm only new to the CPAP thing and have a lot to learn.
Hi Bill, here in Australia you can purchase the ResMed software called ResScan which is what the clinicians use to download and print of those extensive reports. It's about $30 from memory. Also there's some other software called OSCAR which use to be called SleepyHead which some people also use :-). Take care. Nick
Hello from Texas!! I'm Ashley and not only do i have sleep apnea for years UNTREATED. 🙃 but i also work for a major sleep supply Company and i watch all your videos and wanted to say thank you for everything you do. You've given me so much info to do my job and i heard you give the shout out to Texas and wanted to say hello 👋 😉
I bought my CPAP machine from Resmed in the UK, so it can't connect now I'm in Oz. It also means that the time is wrong and I can't correct it so all reports are wrong as the date rolls over during my sleep cycle. I have declared my apnoea to Service NSW, so I have to get signed off by a doctor every 12 months.
Hey buddy, have you tried to 'erase data' in the clinical settings? I think if you do this and then set the the time / date in the clinical settings it should work. Here's the link - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qIfHud8ZhDE.html
I used your video to reset the time. I didn’t need to erase the data to do it. It shows 2G connection but no signal, since it was set for supplier 10 but that would be in the UK. Incidentally, my Airsense 10 has no humidifier. I had to play hardball with them to get it without the humidifier.
Some nights I will get a screen display showing more hours than i will get "credit" for on the MyAir. So far I am hitting my minimum number of average hours of use. I notice this is more likely when I start sleeping after midnight especially several hours after midnight.
The information is so small ,you can't read it and was shown how to view on RU-vid . Used picture to show parts and numbers to tell what to do. There's no numbers on the picture, so you don't know what there talking about. Makes it hard to start, need basic info to start. like your speech
It's now a year since this video . Could your sleep data be used against you when say your self medicating ie You Adjusting your own setting ? Without medical advice .
What I object to is that the Resmed data is false. I put on my mask at around 10:00 pm. I take it off at 5:30 am (unless I have a bathroom break in the night) and yet the data says I used it for 3 or 4 hours quite often. It's never totally accurate. I'm on my third resmed loaner that my provider has rented to me while my Phillips is under the recall. My Phillips did not have this problem. I can't wait to get back to the Phillips. If the sleep time is incorrect, how can I trust the AHI data???
Hi Katrina, shoot me an email at cpapreviewsaus@gmail.com and i'll give you beta access to my SleepHQ web app so you can see how the data in more detail. You can probably then also invite me as a member to review your data. Cheers
I know that the issuer of my CPAP, the Veterans Hospital gets and uses my data to determine any needed adjustments. Do they get it from resmed; I do not know.
Wowza- EXCELLENT vid, thanks Nick! You’ve made a compelling case for actively safeguarding a critical aspect of our health data. “Down the rabbit hole”, is spot on, well said! I look forward to your Modem “surgery” tutorial - in the meantime, I’m off to opt out with ResMed. Thanks again - you’re the best, Mate!!
Hi Susan, thanks for the kind words. I'm certainly not trying to alarm anyone but the least they can do is ask you - 'can we have your sleep health data' . It frustrates me that companies just think it belongs to them because they made a fancy airpump. This goes for any company! Just ask, it's not hard. People have the right to make up their own minds. Cheers
P.S - I'm a little embarrassed i didn't think of this for the video but you can just turn on FLIGHT MODE on your device and it will stop communication with ResMed servers / cloud. According to their website anyway - How does Airplane Mode affect data transmission? A. Airplane Mode disables the AirSense 10, AirCurve 10 and Lumis machine’s wireless connectivity* and makes data transmission to AirView™ temporarily unavailable. It will also prevent transmission of data to your myAir™ program. You will need to let your ResMed Authorised Dealer or your physician know you are going overseas, because the data will stop streaming to their AirView account while you’re away.
A car owner did have a law suit against a car maker, saying the air in the car made the car owner fall asleep. The car owner drove off a corner, hit a motorcyclist and killed him. The last I knew the car driver was not charged for killing the motorcyclist.
I do not like it I just started getting the therapy and my insurance is paying for each month for ten months So I'm figuring the insurance company is using it I'm hoping that it stops after I own it because I don't like it
Bit of scare-mongering there, methinks. Not all machines have the 'modem' card. For example, my AirSense10 AutoSet doesn't have it. There was/is an option card to enable WiFi connectivity. However rather expensive. Some units came with it, others didn't. Depended where in the world the unit was marketed for. On another note, for ease of retrieving data and instead of having to remove the SDcard, I bought a USB plugin module. No longer available though.
Yeah maybe a little. In hindsight i probably didn't need 15 minutes of video to say ' I wish the companies would ask you if they could have your data'. Anyway, thanks for sharing your insights. Cheers
Nick, have you done a review of the “So Clean” and So Clean2? I can’t find a video from you and I kinda trust your opinion since so many of your videos have helped me. I keep my gear clean but wondering if this would be equal to manual cleaning and much less painful. What is painful is the cost of this thing, if you know what I mean! Great job, love your vids!
Hey Justin, appreciate that mate. No i have yet to do a review on the device but what put me off was the cost and also all the little parts / components you need to buy for the different machines etc. I would just hold off on the ozone cleaners for the time being. There's a bit of news around them that perhaps they could be causing a few issues with some devices. Cheers
@@CPAPReviews Thank you sir! I will take that advice and just keep cleaning my gear with elbow grease and keep my eye on your upcoming vids. Be well and stay safe!
@@justinleveille3200 I tried it. Couldn’t live with it. Made my mask, hose and even the water tank stink. Supposedly this is supposed to go away, but nope. A week after cleaning it it still stank of ozone.
Thing is, I think it's cute that people actually think they have privacy... Just know that the big boys have a copy of every email, photo, video and phone call you ever made... In case you doubt that, just listen to a few interviews from Edward Snowden...
Thanks for the heads up not that it affects me at the moment because i use a older machine from fisher & paykel. But i agree you should have the choice to opt in or out i am guessing our laws in OZ haven't caught up with this type of data collection like they did with google now having a choice to opting out of tracking data for google. The down side i can see of disconnecting the modem is getting firmware updates for your machine. If i had one of theses machines this is the options i would probably go for (1) Unplugging the modem rather than going for flight mode with SD card in because the data would still be uploaded the moment you went out of flight mode. (2) With modem unplugged and SD card still in you can still give your doctor the data from the SD card. (3) You could go for stay in flight mode with SD card in but if you need to do a firmware update you can remove the SD card back it up on your PC or another devices then delete the SD card and put it back or just remove SD card while doing a firmware update then go back to flight mode
I'm not opposed to helping the companies gather date. THAT SAID, I want them to ask my permission first, AND offer an opt out if someone doesn't want to contribute!
Sadly in the US. If I don't use it at least 4 hours a night for 28 out of 3O days a month for the first 30, 60, 90 days and every 90 days until the machine is paid off. (10 - 12 months.) This is Anthem which is a commercial insurer, not even Medicare or medicaid. It is a high deductible plan that only provides a discount for the device. Do you know how the resumed airsense gains access to my password protected wifi?
Christine, I'm not CPAP Review, but I'm just chiming in on your question because it's always the same type of question I have. I'm uncertain about exactly how wi-fi gets shared, especially if, as you say, my wi-fi is supposedly password protected. Because of my lack of certainty, I do very little on even my home wi-fi just because I don't fully understand the workings vis-a-vis security. I hope someone answers your question :), which might help me understand more fully as well. But maybe it goes via cell phone tower rather than wifi. (I've got my CPAP set on airplane mode anyway, and will take the card in to my sleep doc to turn into a printout for her use.) However, she'd prefer that I just let it be sent automatically to the company that provides the cpap machines for her office. Thanks for your question. (I don't mind revealing my ignorance of technology!)
Great video, if you open and disconnect a the modem from a CPAP unit like the Reamed 10/11 does that void your warranty? Does it void your warranty if you open up your device in anyway? How about if you get an authorized repair shop to do it? On that last question, how do you know if a place is an authorized repair facility?
Hi Jordan, i imagine if you fart it probably violates ResMed's warranty. They can't prove anything mate. It's very simple to disconnect the modem however you can also just turn 'flight mode' on in the setting which also works. Cheers legend. Nicko
I am afraid the boomerang "pardon the punch" will be if you remove the modem the machine will not work. Silicon valley fix for everything is "if you delete me your stuff won't work".
