Both, The unforgiven and The Unfogiven 2, are masterpieces in their own right! I look at them as an evolution of James, with all his weaknesses and demons. You know what was Metallica called in the early and mid years of their time? People called them Alcoholica and the band was thrilled to be called that! Those were the crazy days for them. Especially after death of Cliff Burton (original bass player), James was drunk almost every day. And for a brief time when band was not active, James had to do something about his addiction and about his own demons, cause it was tearing Metallica apart (his own words) And he made it work, gave up alcohol, fought his demons, and focused on music. I must admit, I am an old school Metallica fan, I like more of their early to mid music, but I must also admit, some of their latest songs are good and powerfull. In my opinion, the ending is about him realizing that she has similar wounds as him. And unless people/partners open "the doors" to each other, including their vulnerability, there cannot be the real trust=relationship.
I also here a more unsettling subtext in the lyrics. Maybe it's an overinterpretation, but I hear someone who is so disappointed that she is 'unforgiven too' and can't save him that he might have killed her. The lyrics seem to hint in that direction... Btw. are doing unforgiven iii too? Its my favourite of the three. 😊
The three Unforgivens are autobiographical. In the second one, James (the lead singer) talks about his mom. That's why you can see in the video the umbilical cord that maintains the guy near the stone, that basically is his mom's grave. At the end of the video the stone becomes a woman. James mom passed away when he was teenager.
The Unforgiven without the ii at the end is WAY better than this one. Are you sure you are reacting to the right song? Not sure why someone would buy a coffee to see you react to this one or should I say number 2(LOL) but I could be wrong? If you liked this not as good number 2 Unforgiven, you're gonna love the just plain The Unforgiven without the ii. The instrumental in the without the ii is WAY better than this one and the vocals have that soft to passionate vocal projection, you'll see if you ever react to it. It's still Metallica so you are continuing to bring great content.👍
It was after my reaction to the Unforgiven that I found out it had two sequels ii and iii, no one bought me coffee to check them out, I decided to that myself after I found out. Thanks for watching
