Daiwa FUEGO LT review
Daiwa really has put out a pile of great sub $200 spinning reels.
The Tatula LT is spectacular and the BG is the $99 egg beater to beat in terms of modern rock solid reliability. But with the Fuego LT being identically priced. Where does it stand. How does the Fuego LT compare to the Exceler LT, BG and shimanao Nasci and Okuma Epixor? Lets find out

ABSOLUTELY CRAZT PRICE ON THAT OKUMA EPIXOR LT amzn.to/2T9w4m1 Shown at 29:27 45$ shipped Rivals the Fuego and Nasci in performance....just lacks the more premium gearing. Rigid body, very smooth and great line lay and drag.

This is exactly why I like to use only my vintage reels that are 50 years old and work perfectly in saltwater. They take a great deal of tender loving care but rarely have they given me problem. They are not refined by any means but they always work particularly after I totally restore them. Great video as always!. - Chris

What do you think about Fuego LT in size 6000, it's 20 usd cheeper than BG 4000 in my country. Is it a better option for saltwater use, mainly offshore light/slow jigging and some shore jigging?
@jpap967
@jpap967 4 года назад
Yeah I'd go for the Fuego then. The BG i like better for inshore or pier fishing but for vertical offshore jigging shedding some weight and getting magseal is nice in a 6000 size

I have a Fuego 2500XH that has been great on specks and reds up to 36" or so. I used a little grease on the inside to help seal it up, like I did with my BG 2500. On the larger reds you can feel a little flex, but it's not that significant IMO. The BG is certainly stiffer, my Stradic Ci4+ 3000FA is a little stiffer, but very similar feel. I'd have a hard time distinguishing the Ci4+ and the Fuego in the dark. You can buy 2 Fuego's and spool them with braid for less than the Ci4+ alone. Currently have a Spinfisher VI 2500 on the way, kinda thinking it will be a contender. Especially since I do a lot of wade fishing.

Excellent video!!! Very helpful, informative, and educational. I’m not so afraid of trying to perform maintenance on my spinning reels now. I’ve been fishing bass tournaments for a few years and was looking at upgrading my spinning reels. I don’t have tons of money, so I can’t go too expensive. So I decided to check out reviews between Shimano and Diawa because popular opinion is that they are the best. I looked at comparisons of Nasci/ Fuego and Sedona/ Exceler. I currently have a couple Okuma reels, one of them is about 15 years old and the other about 10. I have not treated them very well and they both still work great. After getting to the end of this video and hearing the comments about the Epixor I’m reconsidering my purchase. I have no reason to be loyal to any one brand over another, but if I can save some money and still end up with good quality reels then I’ll stick with Okuma. I’m not fishing salt water and catching tarpon, I’m going after 3 to 4 lb smallies on Lake Saint Clair. If that Epixor lasts half as long for twice the price of my $30 Stratus from Dick’s Sporting Goods it’s worth it! Thanks again for such a helpful video👍🏼

Great video, gets to the "nitty gritty". I'm considering the Fuego but the line spooling issues are a concern. Does adding or subtracting the washers really solve the problem? And how do you know whether to add or subtract a washer if there is a problem?

I know I'm late to the party and that you most likely found out of it by now, but for anyone looking at this down the line: 1) changing the shims ain't brain surgery, I'm no fine mechanics guy, and even I managed to fix my Fuego's shims, so you can too! Just be REALLY careful and take your time when working on the small rubber washer!!! It isn't quite as flimsy as it looks, but it is probably close to... 2) you know if you need to add or subtract a shim by how the line lay. If it is far back you need to remove (the spool going further back, allowing more line going in the front), and opposite; if the line is bulking up in the front, you add a shim to get the spool further up the shaft to get more line in the back. The latter was the case on my 2000 Fuego, and from what I've seen, it is the most common case on the Fuego. And yes: it absolutely solves the problem. My reel will probably work like a charm from now on, it just really jaded my opinion of it that I needed to do it at all.

I have like 10 old metal epixors and 6-7 of the newer style. I have no less than 50 assorted reels. I'm kind of going w $100+ new Daiwa's these days. Having said that my new Xmas Fuego started making noise and I felt an oddity yesterday after pounding snook. Fishing kayak in SW Florida salt water is HARD ! I use my Pyceon AL's more now than anything else. I also have a BG for 3 years now that has been flawless in moderate use. I will NOT spend $ on a Penn that cost $100-$200 for a rough ass reel that the cost of a main gear is 1/2 the price of the reel.

Hey TA... Those hex handles just want to get a little closer to circular instead--they get circle envy--call it circumcision then? Moving on! The tight Okuma: I'm thinking, a slightly bent shaft; or does the rotor swing freely without the main-gear in tow; is there a washer under the shaft of the main gear shimming in to close for the pinion; is the pinion set squarely through with the rotor cup; oscillation gear axis out of round? I'm sure you're beyond this but you can try running a reel dry and "feeling" for where the friction is coming from. Try this: take out the main gear/handle stuff and rotate the rotor by itself. Slow? Yes? Then take out the shaft. Still slow? It's the bearings. But if you put the shaft in and it's fast, even as you pull up n down, it's the pressure of the gear when screwed down. Last thing I do, is look closely for wear that looks fresh n bright. That's "wear" where it's coming from. Chances are, there's a washer shimming pressure onto the main/pinion gear engroovement (I made that up just for you.) . I love all this stuff, so, clearly, I had to go on way too long. :) Good working TA. I like what you're doing. It actaully makes sense. Imagine!

they shoul make an epixor XTR...lol, semi long spool, same slow oscillation, bigget ttougher gears and yes, a screw in handle. that would be the perfect reel for my kind of ''light surf'' fishing. im in the process of updating my rigs (darn winter...) and am considering the 50 for 20 to 30 pound braid, probably trowing it on an okuma rockaway 12mh. also looking at the rtx 30 to put on a okuma ssts862mh as i can't cast all day long with the 12' rig. the rtx seems super lightweight and solid. i wanted a daiwa, but nothing as good a value i can get with the okumas right now.

While the bigger fuegos may be OK reels the 2000 series is a P.O.S. drag wise. i bought on to be my 4/6 # rig. it immediately had drag sticking and slippage. took it apart and discovered the "what appears to be paper of some kind or extremely low grade felt" was not properly greased from the factory. ok easy fix right. after a month the washer had gone dry again so re-grease and a lengthy back and forth with diawa's terrible customer service. all i need is a new drag washer or dimensions to have a carbon on cut . This is apparently far to difficult for them to accomplish. In summation DON'T BUY THE 2000 OR SMALLER FUEGOS.

As much as I love the light weight of Daiwa LT series... I just dont ssee the efficiency of Magseal... I bought Shimano Socorrow SW 6000 for 79.99 from Cabelas and it lasted the whole season of cape cod canal fish ( 20-45lbs striped bass) i caught over 40-50 fish at that range. and dunked my reel into the water a few time while unhooking the fish ( about 20sec-3 dunking here and there. I opened it up 2 days ago. only problem i found was light rust at the AR clutch, and no sight of water inside the main gears area. or anything passing through AR clutch.... for $80 reel i think it is way better than the Fuego, but i bought Fuego LT just for Squiding and boat squid, i get splash on the boats when it rough. All in all, i dont like Fuego that much for saltwater application.

Reels are tools if you don't take care of your tools they let you down and that is with every single reel out there it doesn't matter the brand or if is saltwater or not if you take care of your equipment and maintain it it last for ever and just in case been fishing for more than 40 year's with different Brand and set up so there you go,get a good grease and oil and once every couple of fishing trips open your reel and lube as the manufacturer spec's and you're set

It feels like the gear on the shaft and the gear on the oversized gear was dislodged. I use this reel for about 6 mos, 4hrs every week end. When i finally get it work there is already clicking aound every time the spool goes down. It is so frustrating that it only last a few months. And it is so irritating to hear the clicking sound every time i crank.

Angling Addicts thank you. Thinking about getting a 2500 for freshwater bass fishing. I’ve heard the line lay could be a little messed up and you just confirmed it for me so now I’m hesitant. But honestly this reel in freshwater seems indestructible. Mind if I ask what lb braid u spooled it with and what rod you like to fish with it best on?

@@Luke-do1ek the line lay was perfect once i added a supplied spool washer..so dont let deter you. its no biggie. i use 15lb powerpro currently. as for the rod..i use this reel for very light salt water stuff as well as little bit of fresh water..so have it paired with a Daiwa AIRD X AIRX661MFS rod. but if you are going to use primarily for bass..maybe different rod is better...we dont get bass here in the tropics..so no idea what would be suitable.

So I have a legalis and fuego both 2500 sized that I put a lot of striper torture through and they both ended up having the same problem after a lot of fights in high current. They ended up making a loud gear grinding sound that you could also feel while reeling and while they still functioned and were fairly smooth-ish they were annoying to use. I've opened both of them up and everything still looks fine but they still have the same feel afterwards. Do you think the gears could've messed up in a different way cause I can't figure it out? I'm upgrading to the ballistic hoping it won't do that.

All reels will survive in salt water abuse. Just make sure to bring it inshore wash,clean and lubed. I got a reel was freezes after putting it on boat and stay it for three days in the sea. Although unused it freezes. I wash,clean , dismantled it and shootgenerous amount of WD40. Then it work back as normal. If you work in an island, somehow, the sea air will make handphone to have salt crystal inside after more than 2 yrs of island use. Normally happened to boatmen.

Do keep in mind this reel was sent to me the day after Elias rolled his kayak in the wash. Breaking the rod and pinning the reel under water for a bit. Not many modern reels out there enjoy being dunked for any length of time. Shield, spheros, gosa Penn Z packed, are the cheapest that could. But at the same time it's not guaranteed

I bought the Okuma Epixor LS early this past summer. It was super geary right out of the box, so I sent it back to the store. They went on to lose it somehow, so they gave me a replacement Epixor XT (20 size) as an apology. And again, totally useless. Geary and super tight. Send it back for a replacement tet again and got another replacement that was fine. Still a bit tight, but very usable. Been using that one since the end of June and it has hold up quite well to some smaller pike and larger perch. It’s actually become a bit smoother over time. The reel (and bail) seems super solid. I also have had(one was stolen) a couple of Okuma Inspiras.(similar design to the epixors) They also have this slight tightness. The first couple I tried in the store were very geary and unpleasant before I found a usable one. The materials and designs are great, but Okuma seems to lack in the qc department, at least on the newer spinning reels. I live in south eastern Norway so I fish mostly freshwater. 10 to 1 fresh to saltwater fishing trips.

With regards to your comment about the unscrewing of the handle, and that it is easier to bump it undone on Diawa than Shimano, try flipping it over to right hand retrieve and see if it is the same for both sides, my Diawa Backbay is a little different on one side of the main gear shaft, it protrudes a little more on the RHS.

Have two Nasci's (4 + 5000 size) and they are super super smooth. Agree with you on the hex key handle, and I am not crazy about the bail arm which feels a little flimsy and other than that I do like the Nasci. The slow oscillation on the epixor does look awesome. Would love to see what difference it would make in casting distance between itself, the LT and Nasci?? Anyway, thank you yet again for another super video. All the best.

Is that okay if I use 25 or 30lb braid on the Okuma Epixor? As I've seen another review from I-fish, he said that the Epixor is not braid-friendly (I use braid for all of my baitcasters). I'm looking for a under $100 spinning reel to play around and still considering Okuma Epixor 40 and Daiwa Fuego LT 4000 because these two are quite the same price in my country (Epixor 73usd vs Fuego 86usd). Can you please give me a piece of advice to pick one upon the other? I mostly fish in saltwater. Cheers!

@TackleAdvisors 5 лет назад
I use braid on mine. As does my friend Elias V (another youtuber). No issues at all. I like I-fish. But not sure why braid is an issue for him with this reel. Actually compared to some others. The epixor handles braid much better. 30lb braid USA spec or jdm spec would be fine on that reel. The fuego is a little better all around. The epixor is great because it's a bit more solid and in the USA is 40$ compared to 80$ for the fuego lt. If they're the same price I'd go fuego

Hey Scoob. I know it has been a while since you played with these reels...but did you find the line capacities to be way off? I just filled a 1000 and I took only 250feet of 15lb powerpro. With 4lb mono diameter I was expecting 250yards according to Daiwa. A third of what they said? And I filled it to super full because I didn't believe what I was seeing. ...Then I filled a 2500 with the same 15lb powerpro and got 450ft. I was expecting a rediculous amount of line to go on that reel. Thoughts?

PLEASE HELP TACKLE ADVISORS: I bought a new Fuego 6000 LT reel and it squeaks when the rotor reaches it's midway point. The noise is coming from maybe the clutch. I returned the reel to the shop (Ottos World Drummoyne in Sydney) I bought it from where they had a reel technician look at it and he told me it was the anti reverse clutch. I'm not sure whether he opened the reel and returned me the same one or gave me a new one. Initially when I tested the reel it was fine but when I got it home, the squeaking happened again. The reel doesn't feel smooth as it should be. It felt as though the technician didn't do anything at all. I'm considering going back there to pick out a replacement reel but wondering whether this might be a common problem with the fuego. What is your expert opinion?

@TackleAdvisors 5 лет назад
In the daiwa lt reels. It seems some have a barely perceivable squeak at one point when turning the rotor. Noticeable when inside but not when out on the water. That's been my experience. But it's not been a problem at all whatsoever

Hi there! I’ve been watching your channel for a long time and I love it. I’ve had a daiwa fuego for 2 years now, and I am having a problem with it that I can’t figure out. The drag works and the line roller works, but the sound of the drag is now silent. I took the reel apart to try to find something wrong with it, but I can’t diagnose a problem. Do you know what the issue could be?
@TackleAdvisors
@TackleAdvisors 4 года назад
First make sure the braid isn't slipping on the spool... That is the number one issue... If it's not... Remove the spool.. And there should be a little bent wire that clicks on the scalloped indents under the spool. If the wire snapped or is out of place that'll be your problem
