This is the actual prototype build of the original FPV Antenna Tracker design as presented here:

Please note this is currently in prototype form so this is more of a 'Sneak Peek' than an actual demo, i've got some additional plates being machined over the coming weeks but I wanted to get this up there now so you can see how it's coming along.
More than 400 well thought out parts come together to make up the perfect balance of speed, strength and reliability. This FPV Antenna Tracker has been custom designed for the ultimate in performance and maintenance free operation.
The next parts to the project that I upload will highlight some of the design features and how they benefit us as Long Range FPV'ers :)
Excuse the 'floppy' tripod, it's the chunkiest i've managed to find so far but pegged tethers would show off the absolutely solid & responsive nature of this beast! ;)

Coyote FPV yeah, I know, kinda embarrassing ;) I actually got this far as you see it in the video more than 2 years ago but never got round to doing a video of it. Had a few bits left to do to complete it such as the main cover and a few bits of wiring so thought I'd get it 'out there' and then let you guys encourage me to get it finished! :) cheers bud

Very good looks but I'd be concerned with a few things here, I think the rigidity and solidity of this thing may be a bit overkill if it's not lifting 20kg antennas and getting hit with things. I'd try to mount the antennas farther away to make sure the carbon-fiber and the metal in the servos are not affecting their performance, perhaps we won't use CF for ease of manufacturing anyway. I'd also mount them so that they're balanced in their CoG instead of sticking out on one side. I'd definitly put the batteries on the static base to reduce the weight on the whole thing. We'll be using cheap 30kg servos with a similar reduction which should totally suffice. Referring to your previous video, I don't think there's any need for the feedback pot since the sensors are on the moving head anyway and provide much better feedback and in fact that feedback is the one to rely on because it includes potential movement of the base and removes the need for having the base levelled and oriented every time. Also worried that the yagis may affect the performance of the patch too. Do you happen to have any reference on the spacing needed for yagi or patch antennas? Would be really useful.

I've got a design here nearly ready which is a digital print wrap to go round the Yagi Antennas that'll make it look exactly like Sentry Turret Gun barrels.. gonna get some looks from people when that is swinging itself around :) cheers

Andy this has been 4 years in the making so well deserved! I remember watching this design when you first uploaded it with it including the patch. Loved it and it actually inspired me to make the version I used for about 2 years. Fantastic effort and only you could pull this off so well. Well done mate and look forward to a complete breakdown to each nut and bolt just like your pan tilt videos. btw whatever happened to your V2 GS ? Sub'd!

Hey RPGstorm :) I know, dreadful amount of distractions over the last few years.. Really need to get some of my projects finished (including my V2 GS!)... However, I'm actually working on Version 4 of my groundstation which i'll be showing the main 'brain' of the system shortly (on this channel). I've gone in all kinds of directions with FPV & Aerial Video / Photography over the last 13/14 years or so I've been doing it so I'm finding my designs are evolving as my needs and the needs of my clients change.. I'm hoping to get everything into my new Ground Station design that implements everything I've learnt all in one :) watch this space. cheers for the sub! the more subs, the more motivation for me! :)

Nice machine work, it's swinging a respectable weighted moment arm far faster than it will ever need to for FPV duty. Seems like the parts and software from a good GPS tracking base used on a portable telescope's equatorial mount would be useful ;-) I'm not using a ground station but if I was it would be to use tracking and I've often thought about using something like the 10-15lb payload iOptron Cubepro Go-to Altazimuth Mount - 8200. Best size and weight as well as cost to mount at the ideal frequency height to stay upright and stable in the wind. If it can aim a 90mm glass telescope steady for photography it can carry the weight of an FPV antenna and move fast enough for any LR distance flying following GPS coordinates. It looks like $240.00 may be all it takes to get a larger LR FPV antenna up off the ground and pointed in the right direction with some additional programming that could link to Google maps... cool stuff. All that's needed is a USB GPS model location input steam interface for the telescope telling it where to point. Not sure about the iOptron but other brands software allows self calibration checking showing software can use beam energy centering for GPS accuracy as well. Pretty exciting what can be done using a small inexpensive 800mm RC foam flying wing and other tiny FPV models that have now become too small for anyone to really complain about as a health risk getting hit by one, and their cell phones a far greater risk of spying on them... a very real risk I might add especially with certain brands of smart TV's added. This application of FPV tech will allow you to hear your Styrofoam flying off at a distance... not your neighbor and shows the reality of FPV flying for fun where evil intentions can be carried out better and far easier with other tools available in today's modern society.

Awesome but that power cable with a dozen adapters and constant bashing of silicone insulated wires against the metal frame is asking for trouble. There is that nylon braiding for cables that will provide flexibility and decent protection.

Looks good. Slip ring for video would be good. No tangles then!! Will u have mounting for flat patches such as the gatling antenna....... not many people using helicals anymore. How are you feeding video tx and servos at same time? I find if y do this you slways end up with lines in yr video

Hiya Live , yeah, I've got various attachments to use with it, Flat patch was originally going to be used in addition as a third diversity RX. It can tilt around 6Kg with no counter balance, but you notice the speed tilting up compared to down, counter balance you could probably mount 50Kgs since the main pan roller bearing is good for around 400Kg.. Although I doubt the tripod would survive ;)

Oh, and in response to your second part of your question, I had originally set out to design it as something I could reproduce / mass produce, although I'm going to need to work on getting the cost down a little as it's not a cheap old chap :) It was designed originally as the shoulder joint of a 6 Axis Robot Arm I was developing but got hijacked for my FPV addiction lol ;)

Hi, does this antenna tracking system need GPS signal from the drone to work? or just measure RSSI using high directive antennas?

Hiya Steven, this system is driven by gps coordinates sent from the aircraft. The immersionRC antenna tracker module sends the telemetry via one of the audio channels which the antenna tracker decodes. I’m working on an independent telemetry Transmission using LoRa modules. Hiya Arkadiusz Czekay I've designed it so that you can use around 5 different gear ratios depending on your needs (fully adjustable servo and pot positions), as it is right now I've got 129T Spur on the Tilt and 120T Spur on the Pan, both using 24T Servo Pinions, giving 1:5375 and 1:5 respectively. The Pots are both using 15T pinions which gives the Pan & Tilt maximum resolution when combined with 10 Turn and 5 Turn Pots. I'll get into all that in part 2 :) cheers bud

Hey thanks for your message, it’s difficult to know how to value it as there is only one in the world! 😉 however, it cost me around £1800-£2100 in parts and machining to build it. The servos used are expensive ($180 each + modifications) but they’re titanium gear servos. Things like the pan roller bearing is around £100 too (not shown but will be shown in full tear down video). The antennas are 2.4ghz Yagis (20db) and they’re around £80 each too. Also the potentiometers used on pan and tilt axis are very high spec (good linearity and good thermal coefficient stability etc). It was built to last forever! Lol 😎 it may be an eBay listing and see what kind of bids I get. Always open to offers though. Thanks again 😊
