Thank you for the full in depth tutorial. Worked a treat and really appreciated. Just one question if I can please. Have successfully done recordings but the sound has a very hollow/echo effect on playback. Are there any audio settings you could suggest please. 😊
Hi. Thanks so much for getting back in touch. I had a look in to see if there were any further audio sources involved. However something has happened where I now cannot see the firestick screen within OBS. Have tried everything and no joy. Even uninstalled OBS and installed afresh but still nothing. Tried another firestick but still nothing. Although there was nothing showing in the screen the firestick was working as when clicking on the remote, I he next thing I knew was an email thanking me for subscribing to Paramount+ 😂 I have noticed though that the video capture device was hot so not sure if that is the issue. Thanks again for coming back. It’s really appreciated. 😊

No, the sound was bad because I was wearing a wireless microphone. The sound is as good as your computer's sound is. Great question ! Thanks for watching!
This is very interesting. I would like to know how good is the quality of the sound in the recording playback. Btw, you do know you can connect your device to your pc wirelessly. The only thing is your device must be Android 11 or higher to transmit the sound.
So I have a question: Say you're watching an app on your browser and you screen record using OBS vs using the capture card through OBS.... is the capture card beneficial over screen recording? Or if using the capture card... does it take the stress of the computer while recording?

@andystratton100 The easiest way would be to just lower the volume of your laptop speakers. There is also a volume slider in the middle bottom of the OBS screen, but, that will also affect the recording volume if you plan to save.
I have similar setup with desktop and 4k capture card. It records in MKV format but OBS has a remux feature to quickly convert to mp4 format within the program if that's what you need
@@CordCuttersLI Thanks for your reply. That setting wasn't, as far as i'm aware, available in my software when i installed it a couple of years ago. Will check again. Either I missed it or it's available in an update.
Yes, you need this exact adapter. There are likely other USB capture devices that may work, but most do not. I tested several before finding this one, so you don't have to. 👍 Most of the USB hubs with HDMI port are "outputs" not "inputs" because the average person uses them to add a second display to their computer.

Very interesting! I have been thinking about this lately, and now this video. Can I assume that a Roku stick will also work the same way. What about using a Roku Express? As you can see, I am a Roku fan as I have and use 3 on 3 different TV's. Yes, I want to run a Roku device on my Win 10 PC. Thanks for this great advice.

Great video. I am having the same problem as @terrycasson with the audio. Video is great but audio is bad. What are the correct settings for the audio? I have played around with the audio settings with no improvement. I am using a FireStick connected to a Lenovo laptop. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
On my laptop, I left all the settings to their defaults except for the specific changes I showed in the video, but it could be that your laptop has more options for audio and/or input device settings... I enjoyed your video like you mentioned the video is a little rough around the edges, it would have been nice if you had the camera zoomed in a little bit and actually went a little bit slower and showed exactly what you tapped to get started I'm new at using a laptop or computer keyboard but anyways thank you for the video I enjoyed, I actually tried to plug my fire stick into my laptop a few months ago before I watched your video, it didn't work, thank you for solving my problem. Great Video Very Much Appreciated - I have down loaded OBS 30.2.3 and it has had one extra step - it has done a streaming test so i assume it need to see the fire stick - looks like a chicken and an egg thing - i cant get past this streaming test to finalise the installation - any advice warmly received.
Your instructions were very clear and easy and helpful, just a question my sound isn’t working, and under audio mixer, the video capture device isn’t listed like yours was, was wondering if you or anyone knew why?
Simple video. I've been using OBS for awhile and am glad to see that I can use it for my new firetv stick too. However, I could not get it set up because I didn't have the option listed for USB video. I have the USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter and plugged the USB port into my laptop. I then plugged the FireTV stick into he adapter and plugged in the power of the FireTV stick into the power outlet and the FireTV stick. What would be causing the USB Video choice to not be visible in the Video Capture Device settings box? I only have the choice for Intergrated Webcam and OBS Virtual Camera. My laptop is running Windows 11 (up to date) and OBS 30.0.2 64 bit.
I have tried many USB Capture devices that didn't work. As I said in the video, the one I link you to is proven to work. I've already had a dozen people tell me they're using a different one and didn't work. They returned them and got the one in my link and it works.
On the Apple Vision Pro I wanted to figure out a way to watch movies from my Firestick, I have one of those 3rd party apps so I'll try this and then mirror what I see on the Mac computer to the Vision Pro which I have already done before, I'll see if I can use one capture card that is 4k and supports the Firestick.
Did you buy the exact capture device from the link in the description? Many that LOOK like this one do not work due to the Firesticks' HDCP (copy protection). This one bypasses it.
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. I was able to get the video to work but Im still having issues with audio however. I can here low audio when people are speaking but no music audio. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this?
I want to use it primarily for streaming so how do I set it u for that??? I am not using it for recording purposes. Not sure the recording setting can handle 20 hours of movies.

I got the the video caoture card. followed your video. I already had the OBS on my laptop. When I go to source to choose the video setting it does not show the fire stick tv. Please help.

Hi There, I brought a HDMI Video Adapter today and there is no picture when displaying via OBS. I have double checked my USB connection port and other devices are working fine. I have also checked the Firestick is is connected to power as I am able to connect my phone to the firestick as a wireless remote. Do you have any suggestions as to why no picture will display when connecting the firestick to my Macbook?
@JakeDunning-w6f Hi Jake.. Did you buy the exact video capture device I linked you to in the description of the video? Many "look like" the one I used, but most don't work. When you use the term "HDMI Video Adapter", it makes me think you don't have the right thing.

Great Question! No. This specific capture device has no issues with HDCP (use my link tho. Many others look like this, but don't work). Every device I've tried, and the list is long, has worked for me with this one. The only 4K versions I've tested and liked are quite expensive, made by Elgato. However, those DO require a HDMI Splitter to deal with HDCP when used with the FireTV devices. GoogleTV and AndroidTV devices don't seem to mind.
Great question. No. those are typically HDMI Outputs for a second display on a computer. And even if it were an input, there's no guarantee it would work for this specifically.
