Can I use this to make a DVR by connecting the OUTPUT HDMI from my cable box to the adapter then record the content on my PC? Would any type of movie content be block or prevented from passing through or would everything pass through just like the HDMI line were connected to a TV.

@@FireTVSticks i purchased the hdmi and downloaded the obs system for MAC and i can see video but cannot hear audio. i noticed that in audio settings my Desktop drop down only says 'disabled'. i do not hav option to select 'default. i also noticed that once u selected ur the firestick device 'usb device' i did not have option to scroll down and select 'custom' audio. do u know if this should work with MAC users or is there a better program for MACusers? thanks

Absolutely one of the best tutorial videos I've seen on RU-vid. Love the all inclusive step by step instructions and on screen demo. Most tutorial videos I see make so many assumptions about what I've already done, already have, or already know, which makes the entire video useless. For those having trouble seeing Firestick in OBS and Windows, makes sure in OBS you have "USB video" selected, AND "use custom audio device" checked. Also make sure the Windows "camera" option is enabled. If still no luck, makes sure "USB video" is visible in Windows Device Manager. Finally, if still no luck, exit OBS, then restart Firestick, and then restart OBS.

Very well done. Slowly enough, very clear speaking, step-by-step instruction was great. I just got a Firestick and need to get one of the converters (Video Capture Device) and to download an app to run it. Since your instructions are so clear, will try the OBS app.

I was thinking of get a Firestick for my Raspberry Pi, as both HMDI ports on my bedroom TV are used with said Pi and my Sky Box. This was very useful thank you. As a boomer it seems to be rarer and rarer that we hear such a nicely spoken young person. Though with my Lancashire accent I was never one myself.

Now i know how to use a Firestick etc on a PC Without this excellent guide i would have been doing a lot of research to find out how to do it. The requirement to have to select the video and sound source in the software could perhaps be made easier with a single source option, but that is for the software developers to upgrade.

There are many reasons why someone may want to plug their Firestick directly into their PC or laptop, including, but not limited to capturing your Firestick screen. Just because you don’t see the point, doesn’t mean it pointless for everyone else. I have other tutorials and videos for installing Android emulators for example. Without doing sound settings ... would this be a good way to load programs on firestick? Then remove and place back on your TV? Seems like having a keyboard and mouse would come in handy... especially when you have to troubleshoot an upload and on multiple firesticks! Would prob be able to save 90-95% of the time. Using the remote is a pain when you're trying to figure something out and not "computer savvy" So frustrating! Thank you for all you do. Little by little, I'm learning. ;)

This seems overly complicated. I'm not sure why anyone would want to use a Firestick on a PC, however if I did I would use VLC to view /hear it. Once in VLC select the menu Media>Open Capture Device. Then select the capture card in both audio and video. VLC should be on every machine.

Thanks for the detailed video, you were fantastic, anyway guys if you can't hear the obs studio audio, you can directly connect the Fire Stick to a Bluetooth speaker, headphones, this is how I solved it
Excellent video. Going to try it. The early warning that you cannot plug the Firestick /HDMI plug into HP All-in-One PC HDMI (as this HDMI it is OUTPUT only). She recommends an adapter.
only time ive connected my firestick through USB was to sideload stuff to it so you can put repositories on it (as far as im aware not illegal as your not modifying software)

Actually I had a cousin of mine that he didn’t have a power supply for his fire stick and I was able to plug it in to the HDMI port and it actually once I put my monitor on the HDMI input that it was on it worked fine and I was able to fix it.
Hiya. What's the point of a firestick plugged into your laptop or pc? I hear you can use it to turn any tv into a smart tv, which sounds good, but what is the benefit of plugging into your computer? My laptop for example, already has Netflix, Prime, Iplayer, etc.

If your Firestick is plugged into your PC in the way demonstrated in this video and you leave it on and running, if you access your PC from somewhere else, you will be able to see whatever is on your PC. However, you won't be able to do anything with your Firestick as the remote will only work at source. Can I ask why you would want to do this and then I may be able to find a better solution for you? I don't think that is possible sorry. You can only use USB storage with the firestick. For adding storage, it is a different process depending on which Fire OS you have. i think,,, haven't yet tried but believe no software needed on many newer laptops,, just need to be clever with the usb ports,, .. just like usb audio. thxc for the vid. i wonder if vlc would work its. open source as compared to the free version if a purchase program like osb

Very easy to follow the set up. I've ordered a capture device to try this out on my laptop. Do you have to go thtough these steps each time you want to use your Firestick on the laptop? Also, when you're finished using it, is it just a matter of disconnecting and you're taken back to your normal laptop screen? Thanks!
Thanks so much for this workaround video. For some reason I can't explain, using my Amazon Fire TV Cube produces a rattling and annoying sound on my laptop when I establish the video capture leaving me unable to enjoy it. But when I connect my Onn 4K Google TV Streaming Box to the laptop via the video capture card, everything works flawlessly. I really don't know why that happens with the Fire TV Cube.
There was another video that I watched. For some reason I just couldn't get it. Then I found this video. Well I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to this stuff. VOILA it worked like a turn it worked like a charm. Must say I'm proud of myself. Thanks for the help!!!

Hi, I did all the setup on OBS and my headset still did not work, I found this fix, that worked and maybe someone else may have the same issues as I did. Mine was on Windows 10. Click on Settings, Select Privacy, click on Microphone, Turn on the "Allow Apps to access your microphone". Hope this helps.

I'll bet you can. The Firestick is used in the normal way. The only difference is using a different display. All those extra steps are on the PC to recognize the video capture stick.
