Great review. Have you tried and compared the Dell UltraSharp Curved Thunderbolt - U3425WE to the U3423WE? Also wondering about Linux usage with the monitor.
@Deal_Advisor

I believe Linux should support all the resolutions. Not sure if Dell software is available on Linux though.. Regarding the comparison, I haven't used the new 25 model, but it has some advantages like higher refresh rate (120hz IIRC)

@@Deal_Advisor Dell listened to you in the case of refresh rate ;-) ....... For cable management they could open up the boom-stand structure and perhaps guide the cables via inside 😎

Hehe, I'm glad they updated that! Regarding the cables, I think that how it's done in LG monitors, looks much cleaner than a bunch of cables on the bottom. I wish they will improve that as well

You said that the built in speakers don’t work with MacOS. But do external speakers work when you connect them to your monitor and have your Mac connected via the USB-C? Or do you have to plug them in directly to your Mac with another cable?
@Deal_Advisor
@Deal_Advisor 7 месяцев назад
Honestly I don't have any external speakers that I can connect to the Monitor to test that. I can say that mouse and keyboard receivers work with Mac when connected to the monitor, but not sure if that will be the case for external speakers as well. The interesting thing is, that it is possible to have sound for notifications when using Mac, but for the main sound it is not possible. And it seems it was working for people with older versions of Mac, but not with the few latest. And I didn't have it working myself.

Excellent review, I had been wasting time on the manual to understand what capabilities it had and whether my use-case of using two laptops is possible or not. Your video made it much easier to understand.. Thank you!
@waqasilyas

On this point, you mentioned that you were able to connect two laptops. It would be great if you write a tutorial for it, or just list high-level steps of what connections you need to make. And what settings to play with.

Glad you find it helpful! Regarding the usage of 2 laptops. There are several options for that: Picture By Picture(PBP) mode, Picture in Picture (PIP) or simply using one at a time and switching between inputs. You can also leverage the built in KVM, that will allow you to use mouse and keyboard for both of the computers at the same time. Downloading Dell Display Manager will help to set it up. You can also find a manual for the software on Dell's website. Or post questions here and I'll do my best to help.

That's weird. I can see your reply now. Maybe it's a RU-vid bug or something 🤷‍♂️

@@Deal_Advisor probably. i was trying to add some details on what i did. Maybe its because the comment was too long, or maybe because of a link, or maybe i don't have enough clout with youtube... auto-deletion triggering in. Let me try again

good review ! if you want to distinguish yourself from alllllllllllllll the other YT'so called "guru's" ..... I would highly appreciate the use of such widescreen monitors in an office environment. Show the users interactivity between different apps used, like how many spreadsheets + email + Teams ... etc and how does that look on the screen ? demonstrate the screen partition during the app's usage etc. Demonstrate that under different resolution and screen-zoom%, so the office user has a good idea what he/she can do with the widescreen landscape, maybe even compare with a high-end and a low-end monitor to show the difference. too many are reviewing a widescreen monitor and only showing how well or bad it performs for games, YET Dell's are not gaming but office monitors, right ? 1/ productivity video/photo editiing 2/ office work 3/ maybe some gaming or YT use

Thanks! I appreciate your input! Before buying this monitor, I was even curious how the maximization of windows happens and how to arrange everything.. Is it easy or not? I tried to demonstrate some of the usage, so it's more clear for folks who are interested in the monitor. Maybe I'll create a video based on your recommendation, but I can't promise, since I've not been uploading videos lately. But I want to resume ☺️ Thanks once again for the input!

The answer to your question is No! When used in combination with a Dell laptop that uses Dell Power Button Sync (DPBS) the monitor unfortunately is a horrible piece of hardware. In my setup I use a personal desktop pc and a professional Dell laptop with only one keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor. The DBPS makes sure that when you want to turn off the laptop it also powers down the monitor and vice versa. Unfortunately the monitor does not turn on anymore for your desktop or other connected hardware. Also the DPBS cannot be turned off in Settings Sometimes the combination of laptop and monitor is blocked and the only solution is to disconnect the laptop and disconnect the power cord on the monitor. Well, that sounds horrible for a USB-C monitor with KVM switch doesn't it. I recommend anyone interested in this monitor to do some preliminary research on the DPBS functionality and determine if this can affect you before you buy this monitor.

Thanks for your input! I really appreciate it! It's the first time I hear about DPBS and to me it sounds like a redundant functionality 👀 I also use my monitor with a Dell XPS laptop (not sure if it has DPBS or not) and I had close to 0 issues using that combination. And I also have a similar behavior what the DPBS is offering (kinda). I configured my laptop to work and transfer the image when the lid is closed and I've also configured it to turn on when the power supply is on. So when I plug it in via the monitor's usb C fast power delivery, it turns on automatically. When turning the laptop off, I don't turn off the monitor. Hope this information helps you. But I understand your frustration... It's really concerning.. If my input doesn't help, I'd recommend to try and resolve it with Dell's support. Thanks once again for sharing this!

@@Deal_Advisor Thanks for your suggestions. I don't use the laptop power supply but the USB-C instead. However when work is done I want to power down the laptop and be able to use desktop. Unfortunately this won't work without issues. It's a known issue for Dell and from what I've read Dell is not doing anything about it.
@Deal_Advisor
@Deal_Advisor 5 месяцев назад
Sad to hear that. I also don't use the laptops power supply. I meant the monitor's USB C. I didn't face issues like that and it's unfortunate that Dell does not resolve those

Hey so you're using it with no scaling (default) in macos, right? I'm considering U3425WE but worry about the resolution, but the only options that do proper retina scaling at >200 PPI are basically just Studio Display and Samsung Viewfininty S9 and both aren't ultrawide, with jus 60hz...
@Deal_Advisor
@Deal_Advisor 3 месяца назад
Hey, I don't remember if I use the default scaling with the monitor or not and I don't have access to check atm. Will be home next week and will be able to check. But either way, as I've said, the monitor will not be at its full potential with mac, but it's still really decent! Ofc, when you'll be getting back to MacBook's retina display you'll feel the difference, but other than that it's great I think. And I can definitely recommend going with an Ultrawide! It's a game changer!

What's the difference vs the new U3425WE? Edit: The new one is 120Hz - so one of your gripes has been resolved. 60Hz is so lame. I won't buy a monitor below 120Hz now.
@Deal_Advisor
@Deal_Advisor 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, when I was recording the video I didn't know a new version was already out there. Besides the 120hz it has a couple more ports and maybe better speakers (but not sure about this one). And of course a higher price 😅 Other than that they are similar, but happy that Dell updated the screen refresh rate

Which resolution does Mac not support? What is the highest resolution from the monitor that Mac does support?
@Deal_Advisor
@Deal_Advisor 5 месяцев назад
3440 x 1440 that this Dell monitor isn't native to MacOS. It still works well by stretching the image, but the quality is lost. It's not the sharpest that way but it's okay and comfortable for use. The highest resolution is 6K if I'm not wrong.
