Not the flashiest winger, but would never let you down. Fantastic defender, had good support positioning in attack and especially in defense. Practically never made errors and was exceptional under the high ball. When SA were at a peak circa 2009, his particular skill set matched our game plan perfectly. Helping SA beat the All Blacks 3 - 0 and B & I Lions 2-1. If you had sources of creativity or flair from others players in the team, he would add stability and calm and make the correct decisions - even from a young age, was just 21 when he started and won in the 2007 RWC final.

he wa complete wing, great stepper sprinter defender and reader of the game and what made him stand out was how easy he made it all look, easy one of the best wingers in SA history

Cant say he was ever a player that gave AB supporters any concerns. He was ok but no Cheslin Kobe or Julian Savea
@chris5240
@chris5240 3 года назад
@@MrAhuapai I agree, he wasn't a game breaker. However, not making errors and not conceding possession is a quiet trait that is very statistically important but easily overlooked. Additionally SA at that time didn't really have the greatest pool of test level wingers to choose from - unlike now.

Supremely underrated, probably due to Habana being on the opposite wing for most of his international career. Like others have said, not the flashiest but took all his tries well, fast, strong and solid in defence. Unfortunately you'll never see any of that when World Rugby only use their own footage and poor footage at that.

World Rugby really need to sort out there RU-vid channel and start making it interesting. When you're showing player highlights no one wants to see easy run ins off of malls and this kind of stuff. Show us the player's highlight reel, not just their most basic stuff. I get that JP was never flashy but he's got some amazing and highly entertaining plays he's done in his career and it's the same for all of their player tribute videos. Amateur rugby highlight RU-vid channels are way better than this.

Meh, most of these are being on the end of Fourie du Preez magic. Contrast this with the Habana highlight reel.

As a young South African who only got to really watch rugby after 2007, ive always wanted to know what makes JP Peterson the legend he is, this video did nothing for me. Can someone clear this up for me/

It's not the tries he scored, but the ones he saved. Fantastic defender.

Titles video "JP Pietersen was a beast for South Africa." Doesn't show a single highlight where he was. All highlights show him being in support and getting the reward. Not saying he wasn't a beast, just that none of these clips show that. He didn't break a single tackle in any of the clips shown.

Incredible defender, average in the broken play and incredible at covering his area. and has some pace but overall, he wasn't an overwhelming player like his partner habana. more like a poor version off corey jane.
@sm0636
@sm0636 3 года назад
I’d say there equal, Personally I don’t understand the hype around Cory Jane. He was a very solid player, with good defence and good under the highball but I just think he was a bit too slow to be a starting winger
@rileyfreeman9726

@@sm0636 "there equal" thats rubbish. Corey jane was better than JP pieterson. Corey jane was incredible in the overlapse, setpiece, insane workrate and incredible finisher along with being an extremely smart player. Definitely not equal, start watching some games.

@@toiletsmithy3630 100% Jane was unstoppable within the 20, and incredible at running support lines. amazing player overall, Incredible at first reciever and was extremely poised and didn't panic. Jane was the perfect winger IMO. he was extremely skillful and had alot off tricks in the bag. Best winger ever under the high ball and has a pure tackling ability who is also an incredible finisher outwide and can bring physicality and is extremely decisive

Was a "beast" but scores mostly overlap tries
@sneakpeak0000
@sneakpeak0000 3 года назад
To be fair that's what right wings mostly do. He wasn't out most attacking wing, even for his time there was faster and more flamboyant wingers. However he was physical and a great defender. He was more versatile and dynamic than what people give him credit for. Showing his tries as a reflecting is unjust as that wasn't really his role.

him and habana were horrible in the 2015 RWC semis lol..... they will both be owned by savea and Nehe for the rest of their lives. Nehe owns habana while savea owns JP
@jonnybaynham1689
@jonnybaynham1689 3 года назад
Yeah but they were unreal in 2007. Habana in particular will go down as a legend for the whole career, not a single world cup game in his twilight years. Would much rather take Habana who had a full career and the record for most tries over 2015's flavour of the month Nehe.
@xavierbrown4250
@xavierbrown4250 3 года назад
Lol. Habana is the 2nd highest try scorer of all time. Give your head a wobble. First kiwi is Doug Howlett 18 tries behind. Savea is 21 behind.

@rileyfreeman9726 3 года назад
@@jonnybaynham1689 Habana was unreal in 2007 but 2015 isnt 2007 lol. Habanas game took a huge downfall in 2015 which is the point. Nehe was insanely consistent aswell so that's also pretty bullshit. Ofcourse habana is the better player but he's not comparing career success you braindead. hes comparing them alongsides in the 2015 RWC, Habana was consistent his entire career. You could say any year was his best. 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2011. Incredible highlights. But 2007 wasn't his best year. Though he had a solid 2007 RWC run, he didn't show his flair in the 2007 tri nation games.

@@xavierbrown4250 that doesnt have anything to do with the 2015 RWC semis. say good job to habana. But i'd much rather have Habana as the most because ohata Played against dreadful teams compared to habana.
