Many people interact and you can tell that they go out of their way to be liked, to be liked, sometimes even to impress. And all that effort leads to results opposite to those they seek. If you seem overly anxious in your interactions, your impact on those people is not going to be as positive as you would like. And desperation tends to generate rejection.
This is IMPACT Coaching and today I am going to share with you the secret technique to generate attraction in conversations without seeming anxious.
Leil Lowndes talks about this technique in her book “How to talk to anyone”. And now I'm going to talk to you about it here, so that you can start taking advantage of it now. Humans are social animals and we like to be surrounded by people with interests and experiences similar to ours. But what happens when we want to impress someone and we're eager to do so? Well, our impact is seriously harmed.
How not to seem anxious: The secret technique
The secret technique is to delay revealing our similarity or let the other person discover it. Instead of immediately jumping in with a "me too" when someone mentions something we also like or are interested in, it's better to let the other person talk and enjoy their passion first. Then, let the other person know that similarity, but don't wait too long, as it might seem like you were overanalyzing their words, and that's not nice either.
For example, if someone is talking about a club they belong to, you don't need to mention that you're also a member right away. Instead, listen carefully and let the other person enjoy talking about it. Then, at the right moment, you can casually mention that you are also a member of the club.
Another example would be if someone is talking about a trip they have taken.
