This "safe" is pure trash & you should absolutely not trust that it can or will safeguard your valuables.
In this video I not only show you what you are getting --- I also will show you how quickly someone can break into one of these using nothing more than a screwdriver.
Do you own one? How do you like it?

This is not a safe. It's a lockbox. And I believe it's primary function is to protect your paperwork or money from being burned in a fire.

all lock boxes are completely pointless against theft if you can't bolt or chain them down to concrete. they have all the time in the world to crack these open once they take it with them so it doesn't matter how hard they are to open. these are useful for storing things you don't want burned up in a fire. they work by the plastic melting together while the powdery white substance protects the inner liner from disintegrating.

Cheap extra fire security for me. Great for using inside a larger safe as added protection as where the lock vulnerability is not an issue . Also a good way to organize certain items . I feel like it was worth the twenty bucks.

This thing is it to protect papers from fire, that's all that matters. I have one that's rated for fire and flood protection to store papers. I don't even use the lock, just the external latches.

Given how the lid didn't even seal, it won't even protect from fire.
@ghavila1766

In the heat of a fire the material will expand and seal the safe, at least that is the theory behind these type safes.
@jptrainor
@jptrainor 6 лет назад
It would be interesting to see a review of a real fire test and to see what the case is filled with. When I researched pre-purchase it was a gel type material that absorbs the heat. If it is only fire, and not water rated, it may be that a super tight, latched, seal is not necessary.
@willsmith2161
@willsmith2161 4 года назад
Most safes have a 1-3 hour fire rating. Fires can get around 1,400° when engulfed. Average fire can take 6-24 hours extinguish by a fire dept. Paper can start combustion from extreme heat alone. Math says your stuff is burnt toast.

I ended up getting 8 of these safes for free when a family member passed. I found that 1 key fit all the safes. I had a bag of keys all marked sentry so I know the locks were all factory. I bolted 1 down in a gun safe, for just a little extra protection for my most valuable items, not saying much, but better than nothing I guess. Great video, I wish you still did reviews - 👍🏼
@antikommunistischaktion
@antikommunistischaktion 6 лет назад
I can say from experience these lockboxes are actually rather resistant to fire, so I do keep smaller things that I would not want burned in them (like family photos), but not things like birth certificates or those sorts of documents in them. For those items I use a real safe that's bolted to the floor.
@haywardsautomotive6156

Great video especially the drop test. These are mainly to protect important documents from fire and the old Sentry larger containers work pretty good and they weigh a ton so they won't be running off with it. Personally I'd never buy one that light and small.
@kratz57x
@kratz57x 3 года назад
The full size (hanging file folder capable) safes a fairly good alternative if you secure them from "walking away". For example, many people I know who don't have thousands of dollars invested in guns bought a steel gun "cabinet" which is bolted to the floor of a closet. A full size sentry inside does a pretty good job. There are definitely better alternatives but much more costly.

This product is really for keeping important documents safe from fire and water damage. Several reviews of these features on RU-vid show that this product is great for that use. It’s not meant to be burglar resistant, but there are very few safes that actually are resistant for more than 15 minutes. For under $50, this is a good product to store titles, wills, birth certificates, and passports.

I found one with the key in it dumpster diving. It was bigger than the one in your video though. I checked the inside to make sure it didn’t have anything illegal in it then I made sure it worked before taking it home. I figured I could hide it in the house and keep a few documents in it just in case the house ever caught fire. After seeing a friends house burn down I saw the importance of a small fire proof safe but I haven’t had the money to buy one yet.

I have the large version of this one that I put my documents in and then it goes into my gun safe. It boosts the fire protection of my documents, my safe already has a one hour fire rating at 1400 degrees fahrenheit, add the rating of this safe at 1550 degrees for half an hour and I have no doubt that even if my house burns to the ground my documents will be safe. I do think though there are other options that do this same thing, I got mine on clearance for 15 dollars so It was well worth it for me.

These are really only for fire protection of important items, as well as keeping the kids from opening it without doing some damage that will be noticeable. A thief will gram the whole thing and run. A real safe is something that can be bolted in place, and with a much better locking device. Almost all safes can be easily be defeated, just google it. They to a decent job protecting them from minor fire damage. Worth the $20.00 IMOP

I have one similar to that one that works great as a safe place to keep my medications out of the hands of anyone who should't be in there. I have a very similar one of these and I keep it to hold a few sentimental items and passports IDs, and a hard drive of my data (I also back up to the cloud) and have insurance for these things. I use it purely for the fire prevention. I agree with Daniel it's crummy for theft prevention. Most of my valuables are actually outside. I don't own any real jewelry. I think from his perspective, I think he is a firearm owner, that firearm safe is a lot more substantial. I was considering one especially during these times, but the laws and test in CA are mind numbing coming from a family that has never owned one. I'm working on it slowly though. To each his own I guess.

I have had one of those for a very long time. It is not a safe, it is a fire box. Put your important papers like mortgage, insurance, birth certificates and car titles in it. My intention was that it would survive a fire, or I could even grab it pretty quickly and get it out. If you are trying to use it as a safe, the two crosses in the bottom of the box allow you to drill thru it and screw it down. They have gotten cheaper over the years as mine is not constructed as poorly as that one seems to be.

"Locks are only meant for honest people" sums up my thoughts on securing documents or valuables. It's a question of time. To be fair., this is a relatively inexpensive way for homeowners to safe guard their valuables from high temperature event (small fire) and will seal/melt the lid to the base. However your video does place a proper perspective around breaching the safe. By placing my safe (same model) in my basement's cantina (4x6 room built with poured concrete walls with 3/4 hour fire rated door), I expect it should provide reasonable protection against most catastrophic events. I would expect that I would have to pry/cut the safe open after recovery, but the valuables would have the best chance of surviving against other methods. Very true that the lock is easily pickable and that the latch can be opened using a pry-bar, so security protection is a very low rating. However the safe can be optionally mounted to a solid base (via screw holes on the bottom of the safe) to mitigate the risk of easy theft (snatch and grab). Other larger safes ($250+) that this manufacturer sells at big box stores can be opened using a powerful magnet (check YT videos on this demonstration) -- taking less than 10 seconds -- and do not show any signs of tampering! These models definitely provide a false sense of security against theft despite having "digital locks" or other features. While a real safe could provide a higher level of security, it would be cost-prohibitive for most people ($1500+) and the weight would likely be a factor on it's placement in your house. Often these safe are not necessarily fire-rated and can also be breached using the appropriate tools given enough time. Would be helpful to have a video that compares the different levels of protection (fire and theft) against their respective cost. Be sure to include any research on breaching (physical or picking) the vault.

It would make a great decoy safe, while you hide your valuables elsewhere.
