I have a hypothesis on why the Calafiori deal is stalling but to understand I’ll state where this might’ve come from. During last season (23/24), after the Bayern Munich game we lost after having a big advantage at the Emirates, seeing the Kroenke’s in the stands in Munich not only surprised fans but the media that’s when this I believe this started after they saw that awful display after spend £200M on transfer fee alone. Then, around the middle of May, there were a few interviews regarding the PL title, his new contract (ESPN) and few personal things with BBC spoken by Arteta and then another on Arteta’s new contract by Jorginho saying it’s important that arsenal make him stay(this isn’t something he’s done in the past at this frequency either Jorginho or Arteta). Then there was the interview with CNN with Arteta saying he’s a winner and that he can win the league. Fast forward to just last week where he did an interview with ESPN early July talking about how this previous season went, and on the new contract he said quote, ‘there’s no update at the moment’ then goes on to say he’s happy and valued and loves representing the club. That part made me think there might be trouble in paradise but I didn’t jump to conclusions. Then Odegaard did an interview with ESPN talking again about arsenal winning trophies. Then not to long ago another interview with Arteta addressing the fans that we should believe on the arsenal website. Now how does this connect with the Calafiori deal? I think the board are started to have doubts on whether he’s the guy to make arse win trophies so they might question every big rumoured transfer for example Calafiori as Arteta and Edu have signed Zinchenko, Tavares, Tomiyasu, Kiwior, and potentially Timber to play LB at some stage of the season for the past 4-5 years. It doesn’t make sense for arsenal to not play the extra £5-10M that Bologna FC as it’s been public knowledge that they want around €50-55M for him unless there is a disagreement which was clarified by Ornstein where he mentioned Arteta may need to convince others, I’m assuming the Kroenke’s and the board of directors but more so the Kroenke’s, to sign him at the current point of their project. Usually when someone doesn’t get what they particularly want they go to people that can reassure them of themselves, go to a place where they may feel more comfortable, they distract to cope, and/or they vent their frustrations through talking, writing or another form of expression. And what has happened since the start of this month? Arteta did another interview telling the fans, asides from his personal family and friends the ones that reassure him the most due to the number of people that do, to continue believing in what they’re doing ( I assume based on the fact the board aren’t convinced of certain signings and them potentially doubting whether he’s capable of winning a trophy). He distracts everyone by bidding something dumb for the Bentley as a distraction for himself and the fans due to the Calafiori deal stalling. The interview he just did is almost similar to the one he did earlier this month one could say he’s venting in frustration indirectly as of a counter response to the board. This could all be a hunch but it’s just food for thought

The fact that Wastegate has strung together decent results from these tournaments does not make him a good manager, He has more than once in this Euros been saved by his players who somehow manage to get over the line. This is the best England squad I have seen, and it should be winning these matches more easily than what is happening. This group of very talented players is being wasted . Wastegate manages not to lose instead of trying to win, and that is his biggest downfall. I would like to know what Pete would be saying if Saka had not tied the match up late to go to penalty kicks. I will also argue that not all these players are playing well for him, Kane has been shyte as has Foden and several others, including Tripper. England should have gotten out of the group stage with maximum points, but they didn't come close. England then got the easiest side to progress to the final and still made it look like hard work. That is the telling factor.

I totally disagree about the eddie howe situation tbh. Every player has the up most respect for him. Eddie has transformed so many of our players and just because Amanda is gone won't change anything! As for England Anthony Gordon has been the best LW in the Premier league imo and hase pace, it is criminal he hasn't been given more than 2 mins. Trippier can't play LB he is a RB. Luke Shaw hasn't been any better either! So many players haven't been given a chance and it's disgusting! Strange how subs change the game!
