The Asus ROG Chakram X Mouse is a really expensive and also quite confusing mouse but after spending a number of weeks with it I think I've figured out who this mouse is meant for and why it is actually a really good option for the right person.
If you have any questions about the Asus ROG Chakram X or anything else you might see on the channel please leave me a comment and I'll do my best to get back to you!
Big thanks to ‪@asusrog‬ for sending this mouse over for review!

Why does nobody talk about the joystick use in CAD? Like 100 reviews repeating almost the same info, but there is no video about if joystick works perfect or not for 3D space.

Surprisingly lots of uses for gaming too, i planed on buying a razer viper v2 pro but i just can't live without the joystick, plus the detachable parts. It's the little things that adds up

Man, I wish the thumbstick was more like a controller joystick (smoother and not limited to just 4 directions), or it'd be crazy if they figured out a way for someone to toggle between the two modes. I get that the controller feel would limit it's usefulness outside of games though. I feel like I would prefer learning this over the keypads with thumbsticks, but that's just me. Hopefully, they keep pushing and refining this both in physical design and software support for games. I think it's a neat idea.

The analog mode allows you full 360 degree movement

I insta ordered this when saw it today. I've got the Core version and they've moved the joystick back and the side buttons forward which is exactly what I needed. I use up and down on the js for leaning left and right on games instead of q and e and right for crouch and stand. Takes some time for your thumb to wake up to it but I'll never go back now.

Love hearing comments like this when people share how they use the thumbstick, really cool way to use it mate

I bought this mouse one month ago when I accidentally killed my Chakram Core mouse, which I bought a couple of months after the Chakram Core release. The Chakram X is a clear upgrade in terms of the joystick compared to the Chakram Core It's joystick design (I use the large one) feels way better after you work it in for about a month. The weight is kind of intense, but once I got used to it I found it to be more accurate, especially when using the joystick in conjuction with mousemovement. It feels a lot more responsive compared to the joysticks on the other mice, but that might just be down to the design. The usecases I've found for the joystick have been in driving games, for flying a VTOL plane in Planetside (really recomment trying this MMOFPS game if you also have a chakram mouse) and it's also really good for GTA, as you can do driveby shooting really well with it while still having the controller precision for driving. As infantry in FPS games, it also allows you to A and D more slowly, allowing you more control in how far you want to clear a corner while peaking. Negatives: I've had some joystick driver issues in the past, though I seem to have found a fix to resolve them: >device manager > human interface devices > HID-compliant game controller > uninstall >replug mouse The vertical axis of the joystick has a little too much resistance when trying to only slightly move it from the joystick's resting position.
@SocialHardware
@SocialHardware Год назад
really amazing feedback mate and thanks for sharing! you should start a youtube channel ;)
@aag4873
@aag4873 Год назад
That resistance in the vertical axis of the joystick is also present in the first version of the Chakram and it renders fine movements impossible. Sadly this was a missed opportunity to fix that problem. The joystick is still of very bad quality and does not justify the high price.
@0sba
@0sba Год назад
@@aag4873 It does get better over time, in my case at least. Putting a bit of silicone grease on it also helps. Right now, I barely have the problem anymore.

@@0sba can i ask for you opinion. Fused fingers on the left make wasd usage poop. Do you think the joy on this product can replace that function well?
@0sba
@0sba 6 месяцев назад
@@Doviruses.existbaileyonodysee depends on the game, but yes I think it can. As a matter of fact, if you can get used to using this thing, I think it's even better because the speed you move is a lot more controllable than with just WASD. Merry Christmas :)

I got ONE MX Master mouse like 12 years ago or maybe even longer ago and it still works to this day despite all the trauma it has experienced. Then, I saw the MX Master 3S and decided it was time to upgrade finally. I got it, and within the same day my cat knocked it off my desk and it got all fucky. I had it replaced, and it managed to survive a few minor cat inflicted impacts over the last year, but recently the side scroll wheel has been weird. Its like it is sticky or sticking on something every few rotations. Shout out to the OG MX Master - they dont make them like they used to.

would have been an amazing mouse if it had left and right wheel click (as with the G502).

Would be super interesting to see all the concepts and sketches of these types of mouse that never made it to production though. E.x. where the thumb rests. An up down joy: where your middle thumb can rest in it. Then Infront of middle wheel a forward/back joy. E.x. a joy stick peice that moves like a flat coin would on a table, with a tactile bump to then optionally keybind a function. I like the idea of a stand alone, low profile one that could hover over any keyboard though.🤔🤔

I have a chakram (not X, the original) and while it's a good mouse, after 16 months of use, the battery drains super quickly. I have to use it wired a lot. My biggest issue with the mouse was it's driver. The joystick is registered as a gamepad and it often takes precedence in games. For example in Sekiro I couldn't use my Gamepad until I unplugged my mouse... Caused me a lot of headaches. I since learned you can disable gamepads in Steam but one would not expect the mouse to be there. I don't think the latter was fixed so beware before you buy.

I have noticed that recently asus has released a new version called chakram x origin, as far as I can tell, its identical to the chakram x with the exception of wireless charging. May I ask if you could confirm of this is the case?

I own lexip np93 while the mouse is/was nice sadly the middle mouse button failed (probably cheap plastic part ) so im looking for alternative and this mouse is the next upgrade i got used to the side joystick so much specially in war thunder I have thrusters on and man oh man this is a next step of next gen gaming mouses i still remember when the side buttons were exotic now its a common part of a gaming mouse i hope this trend as well will stay to its trajectory of being a staple part of gaming mouses.

Hey, Im considering buying this mouse, for animation, editing and 3d work and non competitive gaming. Having analog that can scroll or pan up and down, left and right throughout photoshop canvas, after effect timeline, and 3d viewport seems interesting. But thats only what I imagine, the question is, does the app allow it to do so?

If people complain about the length of a video they can freely scroll through at will, well, they need to seek help. 😆 Good overview of this mouse, and tbh, I think I just may get one of these, based on what I saw here. Replaceable switches is quite nice to see, and should hopefully become the norm someday. That thumbstick could be quite useful, being that it's programmable. Appreciate the thorough coverage, bud. Nicely done.

This mouse works well for MMORPG gamers and productivity. Probably not for mixed gamers who play MMORPG and FPS, since the thumb analog thing could be a bit weird sticking around the thumb part. Great review man! I loved it. I'm also using the Impact 2, I've been using it for 3 years. It's great but I'm now planning to upgrade. Whilst I was looking for reviews, I stumbled upon ASUS ROG Gladius III and the Harpe Ace, but the downside for them is that they are probably too light for me, and though the switch can be replaced, it's just a bit complex to open the mouse. So when I found Charkram X, I was surprised at how easy it is to replace the clicker switch and this was what I was looking for. I'm also an MMORPG guy, so this was one for me. I'll probably go for the origin. For all the reviews I've seen for Chakram X, this has been the most informative and efficient. For me, the length of your video review is just perfect as you were able to break down the important parts of the mouse. Thank you!

Can you pair more than one bluetooth device? The manufacturer's description states that up to three devices can be connected via Bluetooth, plus one device via USB dongle and one device via cable. However, on the bottom of the mouse you can only see the Bluetooth switch and so I would like to know whether and how you can switch between multiple BT-devices.

I have this mouse. Physically it's awesome, however my joystick is grabby on the up/down axis thus not usable for gaming even though it works great for arrow keys. I still love the mouse overall, and wireless charging on my Samsung phone charger is awesome. This needs to be said: Asus Armoury Crate is a pile of dung. The amount of stuff it installs just to control a few simple mouse functions beggars belief. It's like installing an OS on top of Windows (the same software will also control motherboards etc), and it will impact your frame rates on top of being ludicrously hard to remove.
@JSmith73
@JSmith73 Год назад
Also, it replaced a Logitech 900 replacement that suffered the same fate as the first - dead switches. The switch replacement on the Chakram is amazingly easy, and will give it life well beyond the Logitech series. Ironically Logitech's software is feature rich and a ballet dancer in lightness by comparison. (I still use it for my Logitech keyboard.)
@JSmith73
@JSmith73 Год назад
My strategy for the piece of crap software is to have it installed on my work partition only, thus not having it impact my rare gaming session (that I keep completely separate through multi boot for a number of reasons). The battery lighting profile means I don't need the notification info.

Hey mate, thanks for leaving such long and very detailed comments about your thoughts on this mouse. I totally hear what you're saying with the software but I personally don't mind it and (for me) I didn't personally notice anything in terms of performance loss or loss of FPS because of the software sitting in the background but I guess it depends system to system. Overall though I think it's a decent mouse which can act as gaming mouse or business mouse which I think is the real reason people should consider it. But the joystick is definitely not useful in gaming scenario's better off using it in digital mode with more buttons via gestures. :)

Lol funny thing you say at the end don't use the analog stick. The only reason I am getting this mouse is because of the analog stick. I want analog walking when playing with mouse and keyboard. The only other option would be the Azeron. Another possibility is half a controller + mouse. Tried the Chakram in the past (normal one) but didn't like the ergonomics so going to try this new analog stick on the Chakram X.

@@azrulizmanshadan9098 its pretty cool. I was able to implement the same “target button” that the logitech 502 has that reduces the dpi for precision aiming on any button. Pretty sure you can even change the left/right click buttons, so its like fully customizable. Have not yet done much with the analog stick on it, but looking forward to it.
