Comments: Great building skills. Great job Thoughts: Use 1/2 inch hardware cloth instead of chicken wire (safer). Run PT wood along the bottom edge of the run and then attach a 2 foot perimeter of nylon coated hardware cloth to it right along the ground around the run, fastened down to the ground with long landscape staples to keep predators from digging into the run and having chicken du jour.

That old one would make a nice treehouse

Nice coop and run bud but you need vents up top , don't seal it ! If it ever gets below freezing where you are they need air flow in there coop , believe it or not just there breath can create enough moisture to freeze there combs and waddles !!!! Not to mention it's gonna get hot as hell in there in the summer . You ask for comments so I am trying to help 👍

Excellent job! You'll probably need to replace the OSB on the door soon with something stronger though. It won't last very long. It starts to peel, even if painted. (Been there, done that.)

My chickens would be roosting up in the loft area, and the nests because those are higher than the perches. Looks 100x better than your old one though :)

so nice to see your son helping...my son started helping me before he could run. I was taking plants out of the tray, planting them and then shifting over to plan another one....all the while my son was next to me, "helping me" by pulling up the ones I planted and laying them back down next to the holes, lol. He was helping but at his age he only knew I was taking them out and putting them in the ground so he could probably pull them out as well. I had to laugh when I looked back and saw all the plants laying next the their holes while he was busy working on the last one. I had to start over again but it was worth it. Hopefully, you get some precious moments like that too.

Just found your channel. This was a great build. I'm glad that you showed some of the design flaws in your first coop because it seems that most people overlook these problems. Your new coop came out great. The metal around the bottom of the run concerns me a little but I'm sure you can brace it up if need be. I'd love to know how it's been working out for you. One tip for anyone reading: Be careful where you spray foam insulation in a chicken coop. Our chickens wouldn't stop pecking at it.

Great coop! One thing I would change easily is changing the roosts to 2x4s with the wide part facing up. Easier for them to roost :)

Your coop is great, from what I can see of it your run it looks a little small if you do not free range some. People think I am nuts because I have a very small coop and large run. I live where it gets really cold and the birds are warmer in a smaller coop. Also what about ventilation? I only noticed the window which is only on one side. It definately beats the old one and I love your carpentry skills.

Only minor note that I might suggest is to put the roost bars higher than the nest boxes. This has worked to help keep my chickens from roosting in the nest boxes and filling them with crap. Excellent build and design edit! Thank you!

Awesome pointing out the problems of your old coop. Always remember 4 squared feet per chicken for a coop. I think your new coop is still too small for 26 hens.

To make it easier you should have put bigger doors on the side so you could get your trapped into a scrape the pen to get the droppings out for your compost

really nice coop and run, looks very pretty, except use hardware cloth and more ventilation, chickens need help staying cool not warm. unless it gets super cold. insulation is unecessary unless the chickens aer warm weather crittors.

great job , looks like you need another 2x4 on the run for the lower metal skirt on the bottom to help secure it and some predator protection under the run to keep them out of hen house since you have no door from run to house. not hating just saying

Nice coop. Don't forget a wire skirt at ground level, to stop intruders. Good job.

Nesting box should always be lower than the roosting bars. To avoid chicken sleeping in it n poop in it, coz chicken prefers to sleep/roost at higher level possible.

You did a nice job on that... I really like the setup.

A 1x4 is the nominal dimension of it. When they first cut them they are cut down to actual 1x4, but the finishing and drying process makes them more like ¾-½" x 3 ½. Same thing goes for all other building lumber, 2x4 is actually 1 ½ x3 ½". Weird but it's just how it is

Hey nice chicken coop.! I'm also building mine now but I need more diapers than I need to buy new wood so my project is mostly reclaimed wood. And it's starting to look more like a Workshop / shed / chicken coop.. LOL.. it's 10 x 8 feet and 7 foot ceilings 8 pitch roof for storage. And I guess in the end if my wife kicks me out I can sleep there with the chickens. But again nice shed, if ya dont mind, I'm going to use that idea on how you did your run entrance being at a 90 degree from your shed.
