How do you keep the water from growing bacteria over time? I give my chickens water with probiotics and a bit of honey. They are SUPER healthy. I only had to buy probiotic powder once as I transfer a bit of the old water into the new water along with a bit of honey to feed the probiotics. They have fresh water every few days
Duck houses need ventilation 1sq ft per every 10sqft of floor. They need 4-6sqft per duck of floor space. They put off a lot of moisture when they breathe, which causes mold and bacteria to grow and a lot of times they get pneumonia. They're good down to 20 degrees before you need to have a heat source
Did the screws alone hold the weight of the water barrels when they are full? I'm going to build this, but I may leave the 2x4 spacers in there to help support the weight of the barrels when they are full (I have a 50'x60' roof that water is running off of, which is about 1800 gallons of water per inch of rain, so my barrels will be completely full really fast).
Woww it is so beautiful this small house for your ducks. I'd like to build one for new born ducks but I do not know what the dimensions is better. So according to your experience which dimensions in meters do you suggest me? Thank you so much and Greetings from Colombia.
As a plumber, it would be easier to put in the male adapters in first, stack your barrels then pipe the rest, pre fab the t’s and glue it all to the adapters at once… oh and use clear primer unless you have no other option
That heat lamp will kill those ducks. Fully feathered their body temperatures are around 105. All they need is some bedding and a couple ventilation vents. I would have put the pond on the ground and cut a hole in the side and plugged it with a cork for drainage. It is a great design though.
What about an air vent system and an overflow system? I have also been seeing systems with a first flush pipe system on it to catch the first rain that falls and cleans the debris off and then when that fills up, then you get the cleaner water in your barrels. I like the stacking method. I wish I could find a way to do this stacking build but with a first flush pipe, an air vent, and an overflow system.
Where did you get the connector? The one that connects to the barrel and to the PVC.. I need to know the name of the connector and where I can get them Thanks
Great work, but some major design flaws with the horizontal barrel placement. Doing research online many people do not recommend this unless you have horizontal support for the full barrel length. People have said the barrels will deform from the weight because they were designed for vertical orientation. And when they do this they will crack and break your connector pct pipes. As well we didn’t see any leaf or debris screens, overflow diverting or air vents at the top of the barrels
Im impressed ... BUT - what about when all are full? No gutter ... I suggest the original downspout & alternative gutter hole. Redundancy, my friend. Great video, thank you.
Great job! I love the raised deck. I plan to do this with a 3” pvc drain with a cap at the end of thenleangth of the pipe so I don’t have to put my hand in the pool. Did the ducks just lay on the ground of do you have a nesting box?
So when they start to fill up, does it fill up from the bottom to the top? What does it feel up from the top to the bottom of a little confused on that?
