It does that regardless of the shape of the slug. It splits like that because of the trajectory of the projectile.

Tenderizer has a fantastic sense of sardonic humour to it. Meat hammer isn't even an accurate descriptor name, Meat Mallet would be correct. Tenderizer is better. Saying Meat Hammer is clunky by comparison. Additionally it works far better for marketing by referring to it as a production round. By prefacing with 'The' saying "The Meat Hammer" sounds stupid by comparison to "The Tenderizer". Also being able to state you "Tenderized" your target has that fantastic old school action movie one liner quality that makes it distinct. Hammering a target is like beating a dead horse, over used to the point of monotony.
