Love your channel, and I don't see the need to justify purchasing this lens. Everyone has hobbies, I know people who have motorcycles, boats, go on ski trips, etc. that cost a lot more than this... and it is your business -- literally (and figuratively), as a professional photographer. Hope to see the Summilux 50mm (tomorrow?), as I am saving for that lens.

I've enjoyed very specially this video, since I'm a Noctilux shooter (even if I've never put my hands on a Leica camera). I've owned 4 different Noctilux so far: 1) f1, type 1 or 2, returned it to the seller because it had some grease on the blades; 2) f1 type 2, just like yours, sold it because I felt it was too much for a non professional photographer like me; 3) absurd guy as I'm, I ended buying my third Noctilux, a mint 0.95 at a fair price. And you know what? Even if I appreciated how good, how unique this lens was, I started to miss the rendering of the old f1 very soon... 4)So finally I found a guy who had a mint type 4 f1 and was lured by the 0.95 as I was by the f1... We agreed an interchange (plus money for me) and I'm home again! I'm really happy, I've tried many (and I really mean many) fast fifties and I've loved many of them (Canon 50L or Canon 1.2 LTM, to mention those that render almost as beautifully as the Noctilux), but, man, none reaches the poetical quality of the Noctilux f1... Moreover, as a mirrorless camera user (currently a Nikon Z7, but I've also owned a couple of Sony), I don't need to carry ND filters (I have them, and use them very often, but it's not compulsory for me: a CP is enough or even lowering the ISO to 32 , since I can go as high as 1/8000), and, also, I've bought a helicoid adapter, and I'm able to focus much closer (the Noctilux wasn't designed at all for such close focus, hence the 1 meter limitation, image quality gets weird, much softer and with tons of that famous Leica glow, but, anyway, I love to have such choice and the dreamy look really fits some subjects).
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom

Hi Felipe! Great story and i'm sure we can all relate to it in one way or another! :) Very interested to hear about the close focus image quality especially so thank you for sharing that also. Non Leica cameras can bring a lot of benefits in situations such as these! :) More videos soon (even if maybe not as exciting lens wise!) :) Matt

Already available in Canon RF, Sony E and Nikon Z mirrorless mounts, along with a DSLR version for Canon EF bodies, the Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 III is officially the first nifty fifty with an f/0.95 aperture released for the L-mount. And because it is available in Canon EF mount, and fitted to my 0.71 M43 speed booster, I could achieve the almost unbelievable aperture of 0.95 x 0.71 = f/0.67. OR if I were to use a 0.64 speed booster - WOW ! What is really needed here is a Metabones or similar Canon Ef to L mount speed booster.

The Old Troll here ...... Yeah. This is very intelligent review. I do not like reviews with brick walls , I do not shoot brick walls. Human's or the small flowers are beautiful better practical judgenment. The F1 with film is lovely. Color superb, lot of punch. The 0.95 is brighter but is it truly required that 0.95 for most applications ? I have the Canon 0.95 built into the LEICA in JAPAN and no not by the current guy that tapes shut the rear cam slots. My lens is PRO, looks as original in a Leica. I love it but still at 0.95 do not use always ...the lens glows at 0.95 , does the 0.95 Leica glow too ? I had the F1.0 and glad to have gotten rid of it! To Big, and Heavy for what it does! Regardless of the expense! I picked up the Konica Hexanon AR 57mm~1.2 instead for $ 300. CAN.. Min focus at .45 meters. More affordable to the Noctilux, and rendering very Decent Pics in Film, and Digital!

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom yes, in january I received my M10P White & 50 summilux in India, delivered from Singapore, via the Leica Store in New Delhi. I find the VF to be too tiny for manual-focusing, & Leica should have continued with the 0.91x VF the M3 which is close to life-size or human-vision. Nikon SP had 1.0x VF magnification. Now no one makes such large VFs. There is a 1.2x magnifying eyepiece available for Nikon D850's 0.75x VF that makes it 0.9x. The EVF in Fuji GFX100S is 0.85x and in Panasonic G9 is 0.83x. Thanks, Regards.

What would the comparison LTM lens be? I don't have an M mount Leica (yet..) Not including the Canon 'dream' 0.95 as its far too soft (and huge) apparently. Would it be the Summarit 5cm 1.5 or Voigtlander 50mm f1.5 maybe?

Yes maybe the Summarit though nothing is exactly the same. The f2 Summitar has more character than the Summarit so maybe that too.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I breifly had a Summitar and loved it, unfortunately it came on a camera I had to send back with faulty curtains. It was a toss-up between another Summitar or the f2.8 Elmar when I bought a iiig. The swirly bokeh on the Summitar can be a bit er.. different. According to one source, I was told in a Leica brochure the Summitar was suited to portraits, and the f2.8 Elmar to landscapes etc. I'd be interested to see a review on the Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.5 Aspherical if you own one? They did the same with the Thambar. For near impossible lenses to find I think it makes sense and is a good idea. It makes them some money to keep them going and for anyone that can afford it and wants one they can.

Dear Matt, I saw this f/1.0 lens on ebay with a bidding price of $4000 to start. Your comments are timely for me, since I am interested in exploring some of those imperfections from vintage lenses with my M and SL cameras. Do you think the images taken with this lens will be much different than my 35 mm Summilux Pre-ASPH which gives “soft” images at f/1.4? Your advice is much appreciated.
