Great video! I've shot the 50 Lux for years and tested both the Nocti 50 and Nocti 75 and ended up buying the Nocti 75. I was addicted after seeing the moments the Nocti 75 could capture and it's been on my SL2-S since the day it arrived. Your feelings were exactly what I felt the day I first shot it.

Your purple fringing comment is absolutely correct. It's nice on an M10M, from my experience.

I got Nocti0.95 and really enjoyed it on the street shooting, it sometimes can be insanely sharp in the centre but highly depends on luck. I tried 1.25 in-store last year a bit heavier than 0.95 but manageable if you get used to it(the handgrip doesn't feel good to me). The purple fringe out of 0.95 is annoying for both daylight and night shooting as long as there is high contrast background. Many thanks for your Nocti 1.25 experience, I'm thinking to add 1.25 to my kit for studio portrait purposes.

Alex, after watching and re-watching this review, along with the one provided by Nick from Leica Australia Academy, I purchased this gem. It should arrive in about 4-5 days. I want to thank you for how graciously you share your insight and time in conveying your knowledge while answering my questions. Really excited to mount this lens on my M10 M. I’m also considering the Noct 50 1.2 if I can find a reasonable price. Continued happiness and success to you and yours. Doc Chaps

I have the 75 Voigtlander, fantastic and very different between F1.5 and F2, Leica’s APO is also excellent, a friend of mine has it. Conclusion, I can’t choose between the two, the Leica is more Leica, the Voigtlander has more range in terms of creative possibilities.

I own the 35 1.4 ,28 5.6 28 2.8 50 1.2 noc 50 f2 50 0.95 noc 2 75 noc 90 1.5😁i would say two 50 noc,75 noc,90 1.5 is amaaaazing....The 75 and 90 are two big humping lens, but they are unique and really nothing else in this planet can campare to it......I would say gave 50 1.2 noc a shoot if you eye on 50 0.95,the vintage 50 1.2 look is very unique, I like the crazzy swirl bokeh....

The 75 noctilux is definitely one of the highest performing Leica M lens without losing the magic noctilux look.

The Summilux 75mm is a very nice alternative to the 75 Noctillux. Save a lot of money and I find it to match the 50 0.95 more if you want to shoot with both and retain a "similar look". With that said, I had a chance to try the 75 notc and it is indeed a beautiful lens.

Alex: I am really curious about your experience with the 75mm Apo. I own that lens and love it. F2 seems to have a shallow enough depth of field with a 75mm but I always wondered how the lens compares to the 75mm Noctilux. The Apo is very sharp as well and renders out of focus background beautifully. It is also much more portable than the Noctilux and is usually in bag as just another M lens. But the Noctilux does look amazing!

Alex, have you had a chance to test the Voigtlander 75 1.5 VM , or the Leica APO 75 f2 yet? I’m very interested in learning findings. Your earlier review of the Leica Noctilux 75 1.25 has set me on a journey with on two options. Ride it to the end and sell the farm for the Noct. Or jump off with either the 75 1.5 VM or the APO 75 as my new friend. Be Blessed, Chaps

Man, maybe one day I could get into Leica. My kids move around way too much for manual focus. I love my 50 1.2 rf, and Samyang 85 1.4 though.

Perhaps the Thambar is next on your list off lenses to try. Actually, there are a ton of vintage Leica options each with their own characteristics. A 90/4 Elmar can give impressive results for $100.00. By the way, I will be in MCO next week with the M11 and 35APO taking snaps of the attractions. Should be fun.

What is not to love about the Noctilux. I bought the 50 Noctilux for my M10-R. I always take an ND filter with me and always Shoot it wide open. If I don’t need the .95 I take my 50 Summilux. A real sleeper setup is the 90 Elmarit with the macro adapter. I picked it up for my M10 but since I got the SL2S that is where the 90 macro spends most of its time. It is small and through the lens can shoot macro to infinity. The APO 75 L for the SL2 is a lens that has so much magic. I started into Leica about 3 years ago

I also had no interest in the 75mm Noctilux. Then I tried. Now I own one. Crazy good lens. The only sharper in that focal length is the apo-summicron-sl 75mm.

I actually find using the rangefinder to produce sharper images than the visoflex. If you're in Houston, I'd love to do a photo walk one of these days. My brother lives in Orlando so when I visit I'll be sure to give you a shout.

there are the cheaper 7artisans or ttartisan (can never remember) alternative to the leica lenses. you can get a 50mm .95 and a 90mm 1.25 from them. there also is a 75mm 1.25. edit: the 75 is like 500€

Thanks for the review. Since you are using the 50mm, you may consider to get the 90mm instead of 70mm. I watched one RU-vid video made by Leica about the lenses. They recommended the 35mm users to use 21/35/70 and 50mm users to use 28/50/90.

Yours is a RU-vid voice that I respect and this lens has been occupying brain space since watching your video. Please save me and post your reviews of the Voigtlander Nokton 75 1.5 asph and the Leica APO 75 f2. Continued happiness and success to you and yours. Be Blessed. Chaps

Personally I’ve really enjoyed shooting with longer focal lengths recently, which surprised me as well. In the past, I’ve shot predominantly with 50mm but purchased Nikon’s 105/1.4 and absolutely love it. Glad you’re enjoying Leica.

In your video you seem to think that "with practice" you're going to be able to take sharp, "wide-open" photos nearly 100% of the time with either of Leica's Noctilux lenses. If you normally shoot from a tripod and with your subject sitting stock-still on a stool in front of you, perhaps. If you're going to shoot hand-held, "on the street" you'd better plan to rent a Visoflex, too.

Talk about serendipity! I fell in love with this lens after watching Nick Rains of Leica Australia's presentation. The color and bokeh is just incredible as seen here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YvBgfulBnlM.html. Sadly, the closest I will get to this lens is my Leica Q2 in the 75mm crop mode. Given how unique the lens is, could it pay for itself via work for high end clients?

Too expensive both camera and lens. The camera body only are near $9,000, plus 75mm the lens is $14,300.... Forget it.!! For this amount I buy Sony A7RIII, Three lenses and take 3 weeks Vacation across the United State. For less $23,300. Think twice.....
