I actually found this video after fault finding and fixing my LG monitor (the 24" version, W2452T), just to say the PSU looks the same and replacing the capacitors brought my dead screen back. (In fact it's better than it was, I think it was suffering from bad PSU smoothing for a long time). I bought it new in 2009, so looks like 11 years is the life of these caps, the screen in question was on for most of that time. So, if you have a dead LG screen, or perhaps it only sometimes comes on, but sometimes is just dead, DO try this. Be careful of touching the back of the PSU (Especially around the 400v caps (!!)) but other than that it's a beginner repair that works really well. Oh, and cudos to the video maker, took me ages to work out how to open the case, whish I had seen this first!

How should a beginner discharge the 400v capacitors before attempting to replace them?

The best way and fastet way to open the 2252 is at the top of the screen. Place your fingernails of both hands between the top bezel and the screen. roll the bezel up and back away from the screen. the top of the bezel will pop loose. Then proceed to do the same to the sides. The bottom will fall away easily. If you attempt to pry it off with an instrument, you will most likely break off the delicate tabs holding the Bezel in place.

This is also the same procedure for disassembling the LG W1952TQ-TF. I replaced the 1000uF 16V capacitors on the secondary side as they were puffed up quite a bit. Thanks for the disassembly! My wife really likes having 3 monitors!

SO THANXS SO MUCH FOR BEST TUTORIAL FOR THIS TYPE OF MONITOR ALL GOOD IN FUTURE PROJECTS AS WELL!!

I'm viewing you on an LG W2340, which I don't really like since it does not have the anti-glare screen. It's almost always bad capacitors (or worse bad CCFL's) on these older monitors. I will just pitch this one when it goes to heaven and get newer LED back-lighting. Guess LG saved big bucks on leaving the fasteners out.

The FET semiconductor on that aluminum heat sink. Is it that? Look and see what numbers are on it. Is it a 04N60C3 ? Get a new one from Ebay and soldier it in. It may be that. Maybe on Ebay you can find that power supply after you get the numbers off of it. I got a repaired one sent through from China and it worked.

PPS I've had a couple of these LG monitors and those electrolytics are it seems the most reliable capacitors on the planet. Reliable and fully guaranteed. You can rely on them to fail - guaranteed. They fail so reliably its funny. Easy to get in and repair though.

you might want to try a HDMI to DVI adapter, it is just a connector so not too expensive. You can also get DVI-HDMI cables.

My unit doesn't have 22V connected and the jumper which bring 22V to the cable from psu to mainboard is missing, and caps for filtering 22V are not present on psu board.

2:40 What a fiddle to get the damn thing apart. I use some old credit-card style cards that you get in several shops, but never use again... otherwise known as wallet filling. 4:40 That is a very efficient design! All screws have double functionality. Whether it is a proper design... no comment, lol 8:52 It's always the caps! 10:12 Mat-su-shita or Mat-su-shit-a, you decide. Or just call them Panasonic, it's the same. Good brand! 16:12 Mixing is generally considered bad, but I do share the opinion that when something is lead-free soldered, you can't harm it by adding leaded solder... It just lowers the melting point and eases the soldering process. The other way around... just don't. From memory it has to do with the "plating" of the vias (if a board is double-sided). Because of the fact that when removing a existing component always leaves a small quantity of solder in the via or on the pad, it is considered bad practice to use another alloy to solder a new component in. It has to do with the possibility of mechanical stress causing the joint or solder to come loose from the other old alloy. Or just that it makes for a weaker joint, but that is not an issue here. Not sure. I'll ask our IPC trainer when he comes over again. 21:40 MS? main-switch, master switch? It probably has a stand-by supply, and the power is turned on via this signal...
@FireballXL55
@FireballXL55 5 лет назад
If it is a 1080 monitor then it could be worth getting an HDMI to DVI adapter. The easiest way to see if it is powering up is to connect the lamps and signal lead, if the laps light it is probably.good. They have built monitor chassis like this since early 2000, nothing can move when it is assembled so what is wrong with the construction. It will say in the user manual not to use screws over a certain length, I would bet that most wall mountable screens would be damaged by using too long a screw.

I would have liked to see you test the caps to see if indeed it was the caps and which ones or perhaps just a dodgy joint that you reflowed. You threw everything at it in one hit so yes now it works but WHAT really fixed it? Start off with measuring voltages as a first point too would have made a better investigative troubleshooting video. Thanks for video. Keep them coming.

Smashing repair, the crap-a-citors are always crap brands, i use panasonic ones from r.s. Lead free solder is cack, 60/40 rosin cored thin solder is what i like :-D. . I've just done a 32 inch Technika (Tesco crap) from 2010, psu problems (No supprise), transformer drive capacitors went o.c and a dead electrolitic on the secondary rectifiers. 8 years old and the ccfl back lighting still works smashing, i can't see leds last that long.

Matsushita is Panasonic, it is the company that covers Technics and Pan.. Though because those caps go all the time, every time I wonder if they are really 'proper' as I agree Pan..(can't be arsed to spell it...Then I wrote this five times longer) are some of the best available.

@@zx8401ztv Ha ha I was sort of agreeing with you, I think LG either entered into some strange arrangement with Matsushita to supply ultra cheap crap or they were knock offs.
