How you can say 'I feel lucky' after copping $11,000 worth of damage is beyond me, Andy. You're a champion. I also donated a few bucks to try and help out.
It's scary to think that even with all the damage your house sustained, your house was actually one of the least damaged. Some people lost their entire houses... I can't imagine having a house one day, and the next it's just been swept away by a hurricane... Glad you're well and good mate.
Oh yeah true, if a cyclone that big ever hit me over here in Perth I'd be worried because my house is surrounded by big trees, they're probably way too big to be affected but still a chance
I guess im asking the wrong place but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I somehow forgot my login password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Melvin Thaddeus Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Hard to believe that no windows were broken - I suspect that being among a dense grove of trees helped a lot. Since they mostly continued to stand, they would've cut down on the wind velocity just above ground level due to friction.
Thank God you and your family are safe mate, I've sent a little money your way. Come on guys if you can help Andy with a few bucks please do it, if every sub gave just 25 cents he'd be able to fix his house!
The UK is being hit tomorrow by a cyclone. I live in Cornwall the South western part which is an opened coastal county. Our schools, colleges etc have been immediately shut down in preparation for when this hits tomorrow due to the danger of life. I'm 34 and I've never seen a cyclone, hurricane or tornado in my life. Here in Cornwall we live in the warmest and most humid part of the UK and its like it all yr around but the storms we get are cool and fascinating. Glad your ok hun and thankyou for sharing
Hi Lilem, My thoughts will be with you. Be vary cautious of glass and stay away from windows. If you have large old trees near you, consider moving away inside your house or flat. Keep one window ajar on the downwind side. Make sure you have some tinned food and fill up water bottles. Candles are a good idea too, and a book. I hope Eunice passes without too much drama. P.S. You seem kind, maybe your RU-vid handle isn't justified. 😉
Hi Andy, its great to hear you and your mum made it through with health intact (albeit imagine some considerable stress). That was one hell of a blow!!! I have been through a couple of cyclones myself (Charlie, Aivu and Joy) but they had nothing on Debbie. You have to got to hate ultra slow moving cyclones. I hope you're getting plenty of help.
Man Andy... that's intense. Hands down the most real footage I've seen if the cyclone so far. Thanks for taking the time to document it. Hope the clean up goes well. Prayers from us here in Brisbane where it's very wet but that's it. Hope the damage to the house is all reparable.
Wow Andy! That's one heck of a an ordeal you just went through, glad to see you kept yourself safe and still you managed to make it into a video for your followers. Your a legend mate!
As a survivor of Cyclone Marcia down here near Yeppoon a couple of years back, I definitely feel what you went through. Despite the massive clean up that followed, despite not having power for almost two weeks, we managed okay. But the trees! It looked like a bomb dropped on some neighbours, and there's even a roofless house in the middle of town that's been abandoned since, still with the furniture and everything. Surprised a bunch of kids haven't set it on fire yet! As for the bloody media... don't get me started. They barely give a rats arse about anyone north of Brisbane now.
Glad to see you're ok Andy, I've been through all of them from Winnifred to Yasi, bloody scary stuff. I've got a lot of friends and family around your area who got hit pretty hard, some of which are now homeless.
This cyclone was intense. I had to take emergency calls throughout this working for QLD government. The magnitude of the aftereffects was quite insane. Especially the flooding as it came down south.
Honest chills just watching this. You've got balls of steel for being even vaguely calm my friend. Genuinely glad you've come out alright. I hope you and your community have gotten the support you need
Woah, I've never seen a cyclone like this. I went camping in Exmouth WA in 2015 and Cyclone Olwyn came shrieking into the campsite ripping out tree's and some bodies dormitory house got flipped over on its side
Having this much glass in my house during this type of storm, I would be freaking out, and would be so concerned about if the glass was gonna break or not.
That's some insane footage Andy. Glad to hear that you came away unscathed. It's terribly cliche, but your health is worth more than any damage you sustained to your property. I hope the clean-up is successful. Good luck!
This is insane. I don’t know how you were able sound so calm(or at least that’s how it seemed). I’m 29 and I would’ve been scared out of my mind in the middle of such a horrifying storm. Big respect to you
Jesus, I hope your house/property isn't to badly damaged. You deserve to catch a heap of fish when it all clears up ;). You showed so much engineering with the roof leak :)
We get nothing like that in the UK and considering the location of the house and amount of trees near it you were super lucky not to get ripped up in that one. I reckon I'd be clearing the trees for at least 50 m around the house but even so the speed of those winds could have carried half trees into the house even if it was well cleared. Glad you're OK man and good luck with the clear up.
I will never understand people who advocate felling all of the trees in their yard for fear of a less than once-in-a-lifetime storm. Lotta tree haters out there.
@@Vector_Ze Unless you've owned property with overgrown trees near the house you won't understand - there's nothing wrong with that as you just haven't had the experience but tree management has nothing to do with hating trees.
@@ThousandYardStare Unless you understand that these events are once in a lifetime or less frequent, you can't understand that the pleasure of having trees in your yard far outweighs the danger. I happen to live in ground zero of a Category 5 hurricane strike three years ago. My house was destroyed. My mother's house, where I spent the storm had a tree fall on the roof. A once in a lifetime event doesn't mean clearing the yard of trees, that's an absurdity. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-68WI2Cr5DHA.html
@@Vector_Ze Trees aren't generally maintained or removed for a once in a lifetime event. They're removed or maintained when they get too close / overhang a property or have unsafe branches (e.g. from Beech trees which can drop at any time). To not maintain / trim or remove unsafe trees through pure ignorance or denial of the potential danger would be negligent at best and fatal at worst. If you have large trees so near the house and fail to ensure their safety having one fall onto the house and crush it will most definitely be a once in a lifetime event for anyone under it when it falls. Last year a small child was killed by a falling branch at a local school here where a huge overhanging tree limb was not removed despite concerns being raised about it being over the playground. The limb dropped in the middle of Summer when there was no wind and no warning so to suggest that avoiding that sort of tragedy by managing or removing trees is 'absurd' is ignorance at the highest level. You have the right to neglect your property if you want to but when an unmaintained tree destroys the house or kills someone there's only one way to point the finger.
Good to see your ok after the cyclone mate. I'll try to donate what I can to help you with repairs. I copped the edge of it. Mainly rain and a max of about 120km winds. Some of my house was flooded mainly my shed but no significant loss like yourself. Hopefully a lot of us can help pitch in. Cheers take care
this just makes me all the more shocked at the wind where I'm from. in the hebrides, in the North west of Scotland. we've recently had 120mph wind. luckily, we've been used to this for hundreds of years, and our houses are usually solid stone. can't imagine what it's like with an Australian house
Glad you and your family are ok Andy, thats some awesome footage. I agree with the previous comment you could sell this footage to the media and maybe even get them to broadcast and get help your way. Keep safe mate and good luck on the clean up.
You do keep making videos Andy good ones too ! Some of the coolest and well thought out and when you are in the andy zone it really translates in the shot . Thanks mate !
Even to this day the video still gives me chills. Glad you made it through this and documented your experience. Hopefully there hasn't been any more storms like this. Sending love your way from the US🖤🖤
Wow, that water pumping through the windows. Glad you're safe, I expect the next few videos will be the clean up effort. Most importantly though, how did the boat fair?
I rode out many of those storms on the gulf coast. I never get used to the sound. The worst is when you have to go through it at night and unfortunately I've done it several times. I feel you when you said 60+ mile per hour winds don't seem so bad when you've been through 100+ mph winds for hours on end.
Wow Andy. So sorry to see what you went through. Hurricanes can be scary AF. Glad to see you and your Mom are physically ok, but so sorry to see the damages to your property. Hope you recover quickly and can turn it into something better than it was before the storm. Stay safe my friend.
Also, I have got to commend you on being such a calm and collected guy. Through the entire video you kept your cool and even were able to make some smart decisions to mitigate some of the water damage. Not many people out there have those abilities.
Thank you. I didn't show the silly things like clamping a door shut after a pin failed, with very strong winds buffeting the glass. I've been cleaning up a week now, and still have heaps to do.
dang... been watching the newer videos and now started to go back through the old ones... Insane mate. Glad you are ok and luckily it is 'just money' as opposed to your life, or your families life. Stay safe down there and tight lines .
Ever tried to get a reasonable premium price on Insurance in a high risk area? No company Australia wide is going to insure people living in Cyclone prone Qld, NT or WA without making them PAY through the nose. Many home owners up there can't afford the premium for Cyclone-coverage. Why do you think those who can afford to do so make their homes Cyclone-proof? Even Cyclone-proof homes can be no match against some of our worst. I remember another cyclone back in 1995/1996 also named Debbie which didn't do much. The "Debbie" that hit Qld back in March was strong - as strong and easily as big as what Cyclone Larry was and Larry had a considerable knock-on effect for the rest of us, even down here in the south. Larry also managed to destroy Cyclone-proof houses. PS: For Andy's Fishing: Were you able to replace your solar systems?
Awesome power. Heart breaking to see you sustaining damage. All you can do is hunker down like you did though. Thanks for bringing us along for this wild ride. Hope you recover quickly mate.
thoughts go out to all of you affected by TC Debbie. Andy you came out with some small damage, cyclones are never a good thing. Yep that glass could have shattered, u were probably a few km/h off and they would have shattered. We wish you all the best for the cleanup, cheers from New Caledonia.
Thanks everyone for donating to Andy! Remember Andy might have to take off some time for making fishing as he needs to clean his house! I'm donating about $20 whenever I can !
man, glad you survived! Must have been very hectic. I've been watching all this closely as my sailboat is moored at Bowen and it looked like Debbie would hit directly there. A question though, I've heard a few people say they have no house insurance, why is this? It looks like you have a beautiful house, why would you not insure it, specially when you live in a region that can get pelted with bad weather. Thats not a criticism, I'm just wondering if there's a reason like is insurance super expensive or hard to get in the Whitsunday region?
I paid for insurance for the past 8 years, at about $1500 per year. This is the second year I have gone without. So I'm a bit unlucky. Buy I can rebuild it, the super structure of my house is super strong.
reminds me of 1984 hurricane Alicia in Houston when hunkerin down in the house. the wind made the old cedar shake shingles sound like there was a cow mooing in the attic. nice vid. and yeah always at night
When you said “ and I don’t have insurance” that hit me hard. Also in SA right now there is extreme winds and rain in huge Bursts that go for about an hour or 2.
@@Andysfishing panicking will make you go crazy, lose your mind and probably see things worse than they actually are so yeah I think we should all be calm in these situations. No more you can do….
I have my own version of this......from back in October. Ended up with Tree's doing all the damage to my house. Not Good. My insurance fixed everything and I came out with "extra" money, for all the business I lost. Same thing for me. Huge holes in my roof. $14,K total Not a good feeling in the gut. But all will get better.
Just now seeing this, and it brought back memories of going through hurricane Katrina. The trees block wind gusts (smart) but are so messy afterward. Glad you pulled through!!!
you had to go through this and others had to lose there houses and the media dose not care about you guys all they care about is these people getting flash floods and losing there cars and and getting 300mm of rain with not much wind at all. hope everything goes well for use and every one who were effected up north.
• PAYPAL » www.goo.gl/OmPtwx • PATREON » www.goo.gl/WfQbyU I've shortened the links so they're no so long. Please support and donate to Andy so we can get his house fixed as he has had a lot of damage. Thanks everyone!
My 91 year old friend Keith hill has a bus/caravan in a Bowen caravan park (North Queensland). The caravan park had to get evacuated but he refused, typical old bluey. Anyway he survived but his bus almost got crushed by a tree. He doesn't even care XD.
I feel sorry for you Andy! I hope there are friends and neighbours that can help you out of this mess. Luckely you are save! Stay strong out there! grts from Holland
Hey andy, We got hit by category 5 TC Marcia about 2 years ago. Maximum wind gusts of 320km hour. The wind was like a jet engine going through the house. Anyway hope theres not to much damage to your place. Stay safe
As soon as I heard the news of cyclone Debbie I have been checking your channel daily to make sure you were ok. the micro jigging video and the NSW videos went up and I new they were pre recorded. Good luck, hope the damage wasn`t that bad and glad you`re safe.
All good Andy, just glad you`re ok. Old Debby really hit hard, we are copped a lot of it and we`re on the Goldcoast. I`m actually coming up your way around July for the boat racing and are staying week; hoping to get a bit of fishing done and maybe even film an episode or two of my own.- Sincerely Keiran
Hope you get everything sorted with your house Andy. We only got the heavy rain that headed down here in brisbane. Hopefully you could have a nice warm shower!
I stayed for hurricane Laura in Lake Charles, LA. Your video reminded me so much of our storm that it gave me goose bumps. Video doesn’t grasp what you feel in those moments. The rumble of the storm FEELS like a freight train going thru you for hours. We were lucky enough to have windows to see the storm happening as well, it was awe inspiring. I never thought to pick up my phone and record tho. So thank you for posting this. It’s the closest I’ve felt to the storm since it happened.
