I am so, so, very happy to have 'happened' upon your tutorial for the first time today! I don't understand why in heavens UTube hasn't ever led me to you in the past 6 months that I have been avidly watching other watercolor and acrylic artists. Some of my favorites are Lindsay Weirich, the FrugalCrafter, Paul Clark, Maria Raczynska, Louise De Masi, Diane Antone, Angela Anderson and Cinnamon Clooney, the Art Sherpa. I just can't imagine how UTube could not have included you amongst some of my possible selections?? In any case, I am ecstatic! After having watched only this video, I find you absolutely delightful. The joyfulness and pleasure in your teaching and artwork as you teach just exudes through the screen. You are truly a breath of fresh air. I look forward to binge watching many more of your tutorials as I try to play catch up and am looking forward to some very happy holiday season painting. Very proud and happy to be one of your newest subscribers!!! 🎄🎨🖌️👩‍🦳👍👍

It certainly isn’t cheating to use a tool like this! The master’s used whatever tools they had, like gridding and the camera obscura. I’ve had many teachers and they all say it’s not cheating. First of all, I don’t think anyone would draw and paint exactly like each other by using this. I suppose you could, but that is a skill in itself. Secondly, painter’s all have individual styles and you’d want your style to come through, not just copy someone’s style, except for learning purposes. Just my 2 cents! Anyway, I’m glad you have these tutorials. I’m trying to,decide between this app and the Camera Lucida app. Unfortunately, they don’t post the price on this app, but I see that it has in-app purchases. How many do you have to buy in order to get what you need? The other one is $19.99 total. Anyway, you have a new subscriber! I can’t believe that I haven’t seen your channel before, as I have been watching videos on all different kinds of art and media for ages. I can’t understand why I haven’t seen yours before! I’m glad to have found it!

It depends. If you don’t want to learn to draw, there’s nothing wrong with using the app, go for it! If you want to learn to draw, then you are not cheating anyone but yourself. And a trained eye will definitely be able to tell if you are coloring inside the lines as your edges will be hard and unnatural, giving your painting a cartoonish feel. Nothing wrong with that if that’s the painting style you like!!
@DeliberatelyCreative
@DeliberatelyCreative 2 года назад
Thanks for watching and your personal perspective. I can draw and have been doing it for over 40 years- I do use the app from time to quickly get designs ready to refine as a drawing or to paint - I have many people in my community who just want to get a design transferred to a surface for painting or coloring and this kind of app is awesome for that. Any drawing- even tracing will help create muscle memory and train the eye hand coordination- In the Renaissance apprentices we’re over set to trace their Masters drawings for a period of time as part of their training to be come proficient with proportions, layout and design skills- It all comes back to the muscle memory and the hand eye coordination.

hi, stephanie!! just came across this tutorialon using the da vinci drawing app. i have a question that i hope you can answer. do you know how big you can project the picture from your phone? i need something that will trace to a full 9x12 sheet of paper . DO YOU HAVE LIFT THE PHONE REAL HIGH TO GET A BIGGER IMAGE? thanks for your help and great ART tutorials!!
@DeliberatelyCreative
@DeliberatelyCreative Год назад
Hey Lynda- I didn’t know the answers so I just went in the studio and recorded a video! I tested out how high the phone could comfortably be and the biggest I surface I could draw in to. I have even edited the video and it will be published tomorrow! But the answer is yes you can certainly use the Da Vinci Eye AR app to transfer onto a 9”x12” surface- I did have to stand the whole time to be able to see the screen and my canvas- the phone was about 12” above the desk on a goose neck phone holder. I hope you’ll check out the video for all my tips and tricks.

@DeliberatelyCreative

When you open the Davinci Eye app and click on Draw Now on the top Right corner it will open your camera roll you select an image from there. So, the image you want to use in the app needs to be saved to your camera roll. Hope that helps! Thanks for the question and for watching!

Like many men, I am very literal in my learning process. I have to say I spent way too much time trying to figure out what the damned bird had to do with any of this. So also, because I thought the rose would be larger on the paper (AR method), I can't figure out how this would transfer to an easel if you wanted to do a large picture. Allan
@DeliberatelyCreative
@DeliberatelyCreative 2 года назад
Thanks for watching Al, I appreciate that there are many ways to learn things and I just shared the way I do it. I know that the DaVinci Eye people have lots of info about this- here’s what I found by searching their FAQs: “The most basic way is to press the “Move” button, select image, and enlarge your reference image relative to the size of your camera. This will make the image bigger on your paper. Also, the app works like a traditional projector where the higher up you place your phone the bigger the image will be. You can place your phone higher above your paper by using a taller glass, shelf, box, or stand. You can draw very big like this, however if you place the phone too high it becomes impossible to draw because you can’t see the screen and reach the paper.” I hope this is helpful! Thanks for watching.

@@DeliberatelyCreativeIf it becomes impossible to see screen and draw or paint large at the same time (arms not long enough) look into outputting from phone to a TV by Chromecast or similar or by using HDMI cable twixt phone and monitor if your phone can output to HDMI. If not, then Miracast or similar dongles are available. I have one on order to try that approach.

Is it cheating? Not in my opinion, especially using this app. That’s a skill in itself!! Also, because I want to paint, I do not want to spend the time it would take to draw something first. I like to draw, and I used to draw all the time, but this is not my goal when I want to paint something.

Exactly! I’m all about getting to the part I want to do. Using tools does require skills and should never take away the feeling of accomplishment. It’s like telling a home builder that because they are using an air nailer instead of a hammer that they have to swing that they are not building by hand. That’s ridiculous! They are just using a tool that make the work go more quickly. 😃 keep having fun getting to the fun stuff! Thank you for watching and your thoughtful comments!
