duhnno polaris sector map design and how ship tokens look on the map, and that iut has RTS like combat... seems pretty good... something wich makes you think its inferior games to others, is the bad UI design, and ship designer is a bit clunky/buggy, you cant snap things into place... OCD people would go crazy haha... combat is not involved? you havent clearly played it enough :D .. you can micro and bait ur swarms... doing things manually has significant impact... its like saying if u dont attackmove in starcraft2 , it doesnt matter lol...
Thank you kindly for that compliment Agung Dwi Wijaya! Glad to hear it. Do remember to play Dust Fleet, as it's demo is live on Steam. I showcased it in my previous video.
Great list! DW2 is really improving and much better than the average steam ratings suggest. Star ruler 2 was very innovative and deserves praise for introducing things that were later adopted by other devs. I agree that both games have a steel learning curve.
Hi Gertjan and thank you for the comment. I agree that both games games have much lover ratings than they deserve, but hopefully just as the games improved so will the ratings. What was the biggest galaxy you managed to take over in DW2?
Star Ruler 2 is also quite unique in that Blind Mind Studios, when they went bankrupt in 2018, released all of the game (except the music) as open source !
The list is missing Conquest Frontier Wars, Haegemonia: Legions of Iron, and old Pax Imperia 2: Eminent Domain. Conquest especially, is probably the closest game to Sins, gameplay-wise. Additionally, StarDrive 1 was not turn-based, it worked like Stellaris, in that regard it was real-time, and you could pause, speed up or slown-down the time. And obviously just like Stellaris, it was way deeper than Sins...though i personally prefer Sins. Regarding upcoming games, Falling Frontier and Fragile Existence do look both really great, together with Sins and Homeworld 3, the games i look forward the most. And Space Reign, kinda missed that one somehow, so thanks for sharing, need to check it out!
Hello Miroslav Kozar and thank you for the comment and feedback. As for Haegemonia I included it in my Homeworld-like games video. Conquest: Frontier Wars never came up in my research of the subject, so you have me there at a disadvantage. Thank you for finding one I missed. Pax Imperia 2: Eminent Domain is another unknown to me. StarDrive 1 and 2 are a problematic case to put into a group of games because of their differences and no mater how I make the cut there will be a reason to say I should have done it differently. I am glad you found more games too look forward to and thank you again for the great comment! BTW what are you playing now?
@@perafilozof Hey, thanks for response! I did not mean to sound critical, if that looked like that, just pointed out the games i thought that you might have wanted to include. Otherwise, great work and nice video, as usual! Definitely recommend to look into Conquest, it was a great game with awesome soundtrack. On topic what i play nowadays, actually nothing really. Waiting for Sins II to mature a bit, bought that one at release back in October, but played only a bit, couple of hours altogether so far. However, i intend to get Last of Us game next week and kinda interesting looking small indie game called Terra Nil? Or something along the line. Its kinda strategy, so maybe you made a video about it before. I watched gameplay of it few months ago and it looks to be such a "feel good" game...so it caught my attention. Now your turn, What are you playing?
@@Timmaaaigh No problem, I took it as constructive criticism and suggestion. I will put it on my ever longer to do list :) SINS II will take a while at this rate. But hopefully it will be worth the wait. Terra Nil look very interesting indeed, I am just not sure does it have enough content to keep the player interested. Can't say yet, but that is my fear about it. I am playing a game I can't talk about until the embargo and NDA drops :) You will know it when you see my video about it.
@@perafilozof Looking forward to that video! On topic of Tera Nil, yeah, it did look fun, but at the same time, it might get repetitive quite quickly. Hard to judge from single video though, we shall see.
HOLY SHIT SOMEBODY GIVE THIS MAN A MEDAL Distant Worlds 2. THAT GAME IS A "SLEEPER" (Aka WHY PEOPLE ARE NOT PLAYING IT) It hard to find good long videos someone playing it.
Because it is too hard for the average player... unfortunately. And this isn't 2000's where people want to spend 50 hours to learn a game. Such is life...
Indeed they do. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these. You can learn more about new and upcoming similar games here : ru-vid.com/group/PLRYGjguAn0CFpLi_MlTb6PIgLkXQM632Y
One year later after I watched this video some things popped up and down. 1. Stellaris is a game, be that from a greed infested hive/publisher. At least Paradox games are well made, for the most part. 2. Homeworld Remastered turned out to be light years better than the 3rd instalment. 3. DW2 - I have no opinion as I have never plaid the game. 4. SW:EaW is one of the better well aged titles with great mods, but mostly for singleplayer enjoyment. 5.Skipping down to 13:15 with Sins 2. Compared to all games on this list Sins 2 is a Starcraft game where the 4x is just a flavor. Thus Sins 2 is not really a normal 4xRTS, but rather a RTS with 4x elements. 6. For the rest of the list we are waiting...
Distant Worlds 2 is probably one of the best space 4x games ever made. I played it a ton and I've yet to find anything that eclipses it. Imperium Galactica 2 is probably one of the best space 4x games ever made if you take into consideration when it came out. It doesn't hold up to Distant Worlds 2 except for in the story/races department (where it still beats everything in the space 4x genre), and the planet side colony stuff, but it's also ancient in comparison. Edit: Also regarding space reign... I'd rather them delay it by 5 years if they have to. It's more about if they have the money to keep going without releasing it. But I'd rather wait for decades than just get another broken early access crap.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these games TheRealXartaX. I am glad to see more love for DW2. Imperium Galactica's planet side stuff is something we will probably not see any time soon for any game. It was just sooo ambitious. I am on the fence about about Space Reign they are such a small developer but have chasen to have such scope in their game. I wish them luck.
@@perafilozof If anything IG2 proves that a tiny studio with a great ambition of scope can pull off the best gaming experiences ever made. And today devs have more resources than ever. But we will see.
I agree, but do remember how much more demanding the audience is today. Like in those times you work on the game, it goes gold, and there were rarely any patches or anything after that.
I would advise causious optimisms with that game. Don't fall for the hype, so many years and no working demo is a yellow flag in my book, with very little connected gameplay footage shown. Keep your optimism but be guarded for that one.
I totally agree. But small indie teams don't really have the funds for it. So it is up to us, gamers and also content creators to spread the word. Put in on your wishlist that also helps.
@@marinecor23 That would be very kind of you. I wish I was ultra rich and could buy a bunch of development studios and release them from the yoke of publishers.
Polaris Sector is actually a remake/remaster of the 1998 game «Remember Tomorrow», which also seems to have been the first strategy game to have a fully 3D strategic map ?
Interesting... I must admit I didn't know or read that anywhere. Thank you for sharing such a gold nugget of info with us BlueTemplar15 ! How far back have you been playing and following RTS games?
@@perafilozof I guess Alpha Centauri generally being amazing... and then I've also started to read strategy guides like Vel's, and realized just how much depth they could have when not limited by real time - and even potentially the best of both worlds in the 4X I tried next like Space Empires 5 and Sword of the Stars 1 thanks to the pause and speed controls ! (in SP)
@@perafilozof Wait, it doesn't ?! Not even as a cheat/mod/file setting ?! Hmm, is that why I kind of bounced off it ?? More interesting for me at least... after trying the real time games that had that option, I now really miss that in others, I'm even always playing with the mod that (kind of) adds «bullet time» to Factorio : Vlad's Auto Time !

Well... I don't know what to say, this kind of a game never had "great" combat. Combat was always just an expression of power your empire had. If you want combat that means more and plays better you play a Homeworld like game. At least that is how I always considered it.
@@perafilozof The thing is you warned the audience combat was hands off in other games like Star Ruler, yet omitted the same warning for Stellaris so I just assumed Stellaris combat was like Sins combat. I then bought the game during the recent spring sale along with a bunch of DLC.. Had a real *surprised pikachu face* when I had my first battle where I couldnt control my ships and everything was over in like 0.5 seconds?! Wtf?. The disappointment was immeasurable. Such a shame as every other aspect of Stellaris is fantastic. Really looking forward to Distant Worlds 2 and Sins 2 maturing like Stellaris has.
I get what you are saying but I never focus on all the same elements in all of the games I mentioned on my lists as it would get very repetitive. I mentioned what made Stellaris good and some bad thigs like the DLCs.
That is why I always advise three things before buying: 1. Read the reviews, 2. Check the ratings 3. Talk to someone who has the game and has played it a lot
Hmm.....Falling Frontier....I have a feeling it gonna be a good game but it not for me. For to lose a crew is not just "Costly" but also what I call "Morally costly" (Plz watch the trailer for it to understand better) For the real world have turn to shit. Thing are costly , War is over the hozion (Taiwan and ukrainian) and many more. Depression is all time high....
I would rather not. Games are such a great escape :) Falling Frontier is incredible ambitious for a single developer and the hype as been so strong, that what ever comes out it won't be enough for the players. Expectations should be managed instead of driving the hype train.
@perafilozof a great escape huh. You do you. But just don't make everything like it. That why we have Batman vs Superman. When the world need heroes. No one want to make a hero
@@nuruddinshah684 When I was younger I had fewer responsibilities and more "hero" thoughts. As I got older I got more jaded with life and stacked with more responsibilities and commitments. They say people don't change, but our living conditions definitely change and so does our viewpoint on life. If I could go back in time I would probably slap myself silly on SO many notions I had before. And the young me would cry a river if I told him what awaited him.
@@nuruddinshah684 It boils down to: I wanted to change the world when I was young, now that I am older and have my own kid and wife I just want to be left alone to play my games when I can.
