Should you train before or after iftar during Ramadan?
One study analyzed the effect of training timing during Ramadan. The researchers found that muscle growth is the same whether you train right before or after Iftar [1].
This is great because it gives us flexibility. If you have a family event after iftar, you can train before breaking the fast. If training after iftar is preferred, that is possible too. I will personally be training after iftar, before the Isha prayer.
Also, research shows that if you continue lifting weights during Ramadan, you can maintain muscle just fine [2]. So no need to worry about losing muscle gains!
