I’m already familiar with a number of those portraits of jazz greats, owning the albums that used them as covers or in liner notes. We and Friedlander definitely share the same taste in music. 😊 I’m a halfway decent landscape photographer, always working to get better. Occasionally I’m good or lucky enough to produce something that quite pleases me and others in my orbit. But I lack that capacity to take an utterly ordinary and mundane scene and capture it in a way that’s not necessarily formally beautiful and yet makes a viewer sit up and say, how cool, of course you would look at it like that! What a gift.

I'm surprised that this talented and gifted man is not that well known. As I. was growing up as a teen I would subscribe to Popular Photography Magazine. This is where I was first introduced to so, many man and women who's photos I used to see in the magazines of my youth. Photos which I didn't know who had taken them. I was blown away by this photographers when I realized it was them who had taken that iconic photos. Lee Friedlander photos were a bit hard to find though. Perhaps because he wasn't out there so much as a commercial photographer as so many others. I first found out about his work in a magazine in the early 1990's called American Photographer. His work stood out and grabbed my undivided attention, I remember that very well. Great job Joe Ulises. I actually found out more about this great man here thanks to Joel. :>)

He's certainly well-known, at least within the street photography genre -- maybe one of the most highly regarded street photographers of all time. I always hope to find photos I like from him. I found a few in this video. But I really don't like most of them -- particularly the type of photos he's most known for -- overlapping reflections and where he appears in the reflections. I don't get it. The other stuff is okay/good/fine. But he shoots to please himself, not me. I respect that.

Lee Friedlander's work is so varied. I always see a lot of influences or similarities in his earlier street work from Frank, Winogrand even Metzker among others. Enjoyed this video on another classic photographic artist.

thank you for the effort and sharing. not to be rude but two images are mislabelled. at 2:48 the image is not Detroit, 1963, Chrysler 300 because the car in the image is a 1964 Pontiac LeMans. the image at 2:56 is a Chrysler 300 and that might well be Detroit. no shade thrown your way. i am simply suggesting there might be a labelling mix-up. again, thank you for a wonderful YT channel. thumbs up.
