Because she is the one singing. Her idea is coming through. So he picks up the melody from her. All her home video is like that. The Guitar or piano players always followed her. He idea come out in a kind of feeling. Not plans.

There is a version from the Amazon Music live stream of the Ivor Awards for songwriters, done in the dressing room with Toby on a small electric piano. No effects at all.
Toby has learned what other musicians learned when playing for Angelina, to follow her lead. In the interviews Alan Papier did on his channel, with Egil Claussen and Ivan Mendez, they both said they quickly learned to follow Angelina's lead. Those two interviews are incredible, as we learned so much.
Of course Toby followed Her and waited for Her. They all do. Ivan,Egil,the band on I put a spell on you, every orchestra She played with and every other musician who's had the privilige to play "for" Her 'cause they all knew that She has the lead. I think this "live" version is better than the 2 official versions, the Music Video & the Piano Diaries. Her live performances are almost always better than the produced studio versions. You are right, Toby is following her, she basically sings the song & her backing musicians do exactly that, they follow her. She's been doing that since she was a little kid.
Great reaction Boudy! Not sure if you know, but the video being shot with that upper level view of the stage was done by none other than Alan Papier! The other shot came from a RU-vidr called JUMPIN SOUNDS, a channel that shows some of the best live music in London. And, like you said, a big thank you to James Thiel for putting everything together on this video. I was lucky enough to have a question answered by Toby Gad via RU-vid and Instagram. I asked him what Angelina song convinced him to want to work with her? He replied back that he saw her performance of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen on America's Got Talent The Champions 2020 and knew he had to work with her. I read a Billboard online article from January in regards to Toby and his music project called the Piano Diaries, which basically takes all of the hit music he helped -produced and or write and redo them with other artists. In the article, he said he only had a few singers lined up to sing for him. For the song If I Were A Boy, he was originally thinking of asking the artist called SZA to sing this particular song. W Angels are so happy that he heard Angelina and changed his mind!
AM...b c jean is a songwriter who met toby on my space. they shared studio with a jewelry designer. she was pissed at boyfriend of several years who dumped her and as they were walking down the street said " if i was a boy i'd kick his ass. " toby goes what if i were a boy thats a great title forget the pizza lets go write a song...for whatever reason her studio didn't pick it up and toby played it for beyonce one day she was in his studio and she she said toby i have to sing that song right now...won a grammy...toby said b c jeans version was rock beyonces rhythm and blues but he liked angelina's best as it was TIMELESS..he then laughed and said u b the judge...toby wasn't talking about beyonce at start he was talking about maresha from guys and dolls...

ACTUALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY I'm trying to book a visa appointment, the process is a little confusing haha, unlike visas for EU countries. Also apparently appointments are so backed up that I want be able to get my interview at the embassy until sometime next year haha, but with that Visa in hand, I can hopefully plan for the trip, until then I live vicariously through you beautiful angels
You talked about this intimate setting and also all the home videos she made. In these situations, Angelina, from early childhood, always set the tempo and the musicians would follow her. They have to be on their toes because she often varies tempo within a song.
Bc Jean, with whom he co wrote the song, was the girl that gave him the line if I were a boy, and they were at his studio, a space he shared with the jewellery designer. Question for your expert opinion: Another reaction video of a voice coach said the breathy, voice cracks, etc are not style choices but mean Angelina is singing too much, losing or damaging her voice. What do you think?
nooooooooooo not at all. Angelina has been singing everyday for years. Her vocal chords are tough as nails. I'm sure Grandma Mery has taught Angelina how to warm up and and warm down before sets and that's an added layer of protection. Even though i'm very confident that she wouldn't even need to do that. The vocal chords are a muscle, Angelina's been training them for years. At my peak I was performing 5-6 2 hour sets a week, over big holidays we'd go 2 weeks straight with almost 2 gigs per day, never ever had an issue but that's because for 10 years i'd been singing every single day. Vocal chords toughen up the more you use them, and the more you use them correctly. NOW if you abuse them by doing something with them that you're not supposed to do and your voice cracks, then that'll need some recovery for sure, but Angelina really knows how to sing, her technique is pure perfection. Those voice cracks and the breathiness are 'substance' in her voice. I'd like to see what that vocal coach had to say if you wanna link the video.

I just watched it. My point of view is the complete opposite of hers. I think she's addressing it from a very 'theoretical' 'educational' stance. I still don't agree with her. She's making a valid point that would resonate with someone that is an amateur, and just getting started, or even someone that has been doing it for a while but not professionally. Not the case for Angelina. Career singers know what's what and I think that's where singers that are teachers and singers that are professional performers/artists will not see eye to eye. This is giving me an idea though. Go down a rabbit hole of vocal coaches and see what's going on there haha.

I completely agree. That performance was the most organic version of the 3 that I've heard. I don't count the music video. I don't think they are real performances.

I had heard that aj was to sing in the new netflix movie a family affair. There is background singing in it, but, though I've been listening to aj for 7 years, I didn't recognize her voice in any of the songs. Disappointing, because the movie was meh at best.
