I usually degrade all karaoke performances but, when I think she's 'trying out' all these facets, I get more entranced by it. This also fortifies my argument that AJ doesn't 'sound like' others - she CHANNELS them. She taps into their stream and dives in, swims along and we're going along for that swim.

Aw I don’t see the comment saying she is a karaoke singer but accurately saying she channels the original singer to learn their techniques. She has channeled dozens over the years to build a loaded toolbox that allows her use her extraordinary, unique, sounds at will and with ease.

She for sure will!!! And if there are people who don't "understand" it will be at it is. There also were dinosaurs on the planet, which is a globe 🌎 - even if there are people who don't "think" so...

She was excited to finally get that microphone, but she sang into it backwards. The logo is facing outward towards us instead of in towards her. But her voice is so powerful we don't notice the difference. She's just sitting there on the couch chilling as she belts out that song. Amazing!

@@KenChawkin She may well be doing that on purpose, as it captures a fair bit more of the sound bouncing from the walls, giving the vocal a sound that match the old track nicely. It makes me think of some small stage in a smoky night club. You're right about her powerful voice :)

@@TheBjornwilly interesting idea. In the videos that followed she had the mike facing her the right way. I never noticed it facing outwards again with the logo. She's really belting it out on the last two songs with Toby Gad. We're hearing another new era. Exciting!

From your so-specific old-times description, I just want to add (because everyone is calling out racism wherever it raises its ugly head) that I believe you described that character that way to recognize and honor her because there's NO ONE who would've had more of life's gamut of experiences, including tragedy, and felt more, than that woman you described, in order to be able to sing from that unfathomable depth of a soul.

The microphone was actually given to her by her Uncle Michael. It was stated by him in an interview article, "was intended for her 12th birthday but was delayed in giving it to her by several months". April 6 2018 when the video was uploaded to her cover channel, in her original post she stated, "had just received this new Neumann 102 mic for my birthday and wanted to try it out" which shows that she was in fact 12 and this song is the first after having received the mic. After this she next posted "A Million Years Ago" on April 7 2018 and several others that month which is still available on her cover channel. The mic being backwards in this video was likely not intentional as she received al lot of messages in the comment section that it was backwards and she never did it again. Several years later she upgraded to a Neumann 103.

Um, no. She upgrades them, enhances them, gives them her own brilliant new interpretation, but definitely does not simply copy them (though you may have nonetheless meant this as a compliment).

She got it for her 12th. She used it in most of her collabs with Ivan (at 12).

she is actually holding it upside down, the red symbol should point to her mouth. she probably does this to protect our ears from permanent damage that would be unavoidable if she held it the right way up and the mic would absorb her full power ;-)
