Mike, I heard a quote from Dr. Phil, and it stuck. " We're not raising children, we are raising adults." That said! You're doing it! Cherish these moments! Your boys are never going to forget these experiences, and they will cherish you for it!
My late husband and all our family camped a lot we started camping the summer we got married in 1962 it didn't stop untill 2 years after he had a bad stroke. We made so many friends and there were so good worship services at the campgrounds that we attended every time.
Mike, my husband and used to camp a lot. When we went to bed we always changed every stitch of clothing. You perspire in your clothes during the day whether its cold or not. Dont need to go to bed in slightly damp clothing. Put on dry clothing and socks on feet. Much better sleep.
You are a great dad. Your boys will remember these camping trips, and time spent with you fondly. And it is cool to learn to respect nature.. Yes you are a great representative of how a father raIses, his children right :)
It's wonderful you went on a camping trip with the boys, that will help them to develop into the men God wants them to be. God's Grace and blessings be with you all. ❤
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Not just seeing you camping with your boys, but hearing your narrative and insights. Even though you and Lacey spend almost all of your time with your kids, it truly is important to carve out time to do meaningful things with them outside of the everyday things.
There's nothing like making wonderful and loving memories with family something to cherish always💯% thanks for sharing Mike and God bless you and your family 🙏❤️
I get compliments about how I spend time with my children. I find that very sad. If more parents choose to spend time with their children and be good role models, the possibilities are boundless❤ I love toasted brown marshmallows 😋
Mike I have ordered some things for the boys. The company will be sending them to you. I am the same lady that sent the jewelry to Selah. I hope you let me know that you received Selah & the boys gifts. The one toy is for the baby & the other 3 toys is for the 2 older boys to share. I hope they enjoy them. Love watching your videos & seeing how your family run your homestead.
Selah did receive the jewelry! We didn't know who sent the package thank you for letting us know. Thank you so much she had so much fun looking through all the pieces and she has been wearing them.
A $10.00 closed cell sleeping pad, is as important as a sleeping bag. It keeps the cold from the ground, from freezing your sleeping bag. As a boy, sleeping in a tent was a great adventure!
Agree 100%. We also need to teach our children what is the right way a man should treat his wife and women how to treat their husband in positive ways and not degrading way
Hi, I love your videos, I feel your words and acts are always a blessing that God would want others to hear, about family and how very special family is and friends, and spending time with blessed environments and people. God you and your family!
Never made it to a campsite during the daylight hours, I came to the conclusion that it was part of the experience. But we love camping. Glad you enjoyed the time with your boys.
Hey from East Texas! I used to love camping with my Dad! I’m 67 now. My idea of camping in the Rough is Motel 6. I would NOT survive a night in a sleeping bag on the ground.
Mike! Amen! Amen! I am so happy that you & the boys had this special time together! I wish there were more Dad's like you! Blessings to you for teaching your sons how to become men!
The best time I had ever had camping was at Twin Pines, It was really the highlight of my childhood to be able to go there and join in all the activities I could, I still miss it some40 yrs later! Great message Bless you in all you do!
Hello Mike, I know nothing about tents or camping, but I'd hang or attach sand bags on each of those anchor poles where they go into the ground, just for extra security if the wind gets up any time while you're using the tent.. I guess you have the knowledge and skills. More than me anyway. Love 😍 tuning in to your adventures in USA from here in the UK xx xx
The metal steaks are hammered deep into the ground, and the tent is attached to it. I've ne er had a tent blow away. Even it rain storms. Thank you for the idea of sand bags.
Glad you all had a good time. Nope, I cannot stand marshmallows. When I was a kid, they made me gag. I can't believe Micah is that old already! Time sure flies.
So glad you got the chance to spend that time with the boys. Hope you can manage more trips such as these. My heart aches over time lost. This really moved me. Love you guys. We should do a picnic day at Dan Nicols, I love that park!
That is so very true. My son wanted to go camping and I never had the time single mom. Now he is grown and in the Army. Lithuania. I wish I would have done more stuff like that with him. Glad you are doing it for your boys much love from Oklahoma
I grew up camping and fishing and mushroom hunting 😊 I liked toasting marshmallows but don't like them now as an adult. I am so grateful to have those cherished memories with my family 😊 loved this video ❤ you and Lacey are awesome parents
Me and my wife love this channel. I am glad we found it. we have are first baby on the way! its a boy! and we absolutely love watching your channel and your beautiful family enjoy nature and all that it brings. keep it up Dickson family! yall are going to go far in life. 👨🌾👩🌾
I am with you on the leg cramps. I have them every night-either in my calf, or thigh, or inner thigh, or toes. And I am 71 and have cramps all the time-ever since I was a kid. Sure gets tiring. Sometimes at 3 am, 5 am, and when I wake up to go to work at 630 am. Pickle juice amd mustard do nothing to ease them. So glad that you and the boys had a great time.
There is a medicine for Neuropathy and Restless leg. Works fantastic. My legs and feet was making me go into panic from the pain. Nothing natural was working. To get my quality of life back I took the prescription pills. My. Blood pressure went down also when the medicine started to work.
So wonderful that the boys are part of Trail Life! I first heard about it through the Bartons. You are so right about making the time for doing things like this. They grow up much too fast. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing!
I came from very large family so going to fancy baseball games, or the movies anything like that was really out. But you know my mom and dad would take us fishing for a whole day and my mother fried chicken and potato salad she always had some type of a dessert, she worked for really really hard to get this done. My dad worked hard to make sure we found a safe place that we had a little campfire if we needed it and I remember those times and they are good, good memories. FYI mom always caught the most and a lot of the times the biggest fish. ❤
This was much much needed to hear. Thank you for your time and effort and your beautiful family. May the Lord continue to bless each and everyone of them as they grow into the teenage years as well as you and your beautiful wife.. The steps of a good man are ordered by the lord
When I used to tent camp, I always took a tarp that fit over the tent and lashed it down over the tent. Never had any moisture issues with dew, light or heavy rain. I also would unzip a window cover a little to help with condensation.
I took my kids camping every summer for at least 2 weeks fully roughing it. All our meals except supper on friday night were cooked on the campfire. I ncluding bread, rolls, desserts and snacks. On friday we went to a local towns restaurant that had an "all you can eat fish fry." Most of the other families cooked burgers or hot dogs for their 2 or 3 day camping trip. We had omlettes, french toast, pancakes, fried eggs with bacon or sausage or ham. Lunch was more of things like burgers or hot dogs or grilled cheese or subs. And suppers were beef stew over rice, steak & baked potatoes, we like pork steak better than chops, and grilled chicken, or a beef roast with mashed potatoes & gravy. We had blueberry bread, dinner rolls, biscuits & gravy, pumpkin bread. An apple pie or blueberry or cherry pie. Popcorn, roasted marshmallows, S'mores, french fries. Elephant ears with or without the sugar & cinnamon or the fruit pie filling toppings. We also had a rainy day box that could only be used on rainy days. It had everything to craft with construction paper, glue, wiggly eyes, stickers, stamps, colored pipe cleaners, tongue depressers, scissors that cut straight, waves, wiggles, V's. v's, U's, W's, circle cutters, hole punches, rulers, cotton balls, Q-tips, markers, paint & paint brushes, word search books for kids, note paper to write letters, colored pencils, colored ink pens, just about anything. Plus story books. We took softball items, basketball. Soccer ball, fishing equipment. And volleyball/badmitton net & equipment. A trailer full of wood, axe, hatchet, maul & wedges. And the kids bikes, and my camping kitchen tote & fire/cooking racks. And 1 exlarge rolling bag for each child with clothes, swimsuitS and beach towels & lifejackets. Smaller bags for adults. It took 1 full size conversion van for people, clothes bags & food and the dog. 1 pickup truck & trailer for sports equipment, wood items, bikes, wood, kitchen totes and tent tarps and outdoor rug.
🤔 Aww man you gotta have a foot inflatable air mattress and a stocking cap/ skully cap to sleep in. I get the best sleep ever that way. I’m not an avid camper but I do camp ⛺️ at least 3 or 4 times a year. I also make sure to put a tarp under my tent to keep the bottom of it clean and I also scotch guard my tent at least once a year to help it be resistant to rain/moisture. What you are doing is great. That education , that bonding is important.
Great video and message, but I will say as long as you have good quality sleeping bags, taking your clothes off inside the sleeping bag is better than bundling up. When you wake your clothes will be warm as you put them on, inside the sleeping bag and coming out into a cold environment wearing warm clothes. I learned this trick while in the Marines during boot camp along with the benefits of a sleeping pad of some kind. Maybe on the next trip you guys could do some fishing, that would be fun to watch.
I just got down watching this. I want to let u know u did amazing job. U identified at the end areas that have been neglected. But what u said is so true and we need more American Citizens stipulate more on this topic. Thank-u for giving well deserved topics that Americans need. I Bless u and your Family. Thank-U, Thank-U, God Bless u & your Family 🇺🇸 Wishing u & your Family all the best🇺🇸
Mike NO!!! to Marshmallows. YES TO FAMILY CAMPING. GLORY BE TO GOD HALLELUJAH 🙏 I kept my shoes inside the tent. Didn't like stepping into wet shoes. It's very important to have family time. It's good to have both parents home together serving GOD. SE MICHIGAN 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
Good trip with your older sons Mike and the Trail group. I would recommend a camping pad or air mattress, pillows and take clothes off at night and put dry ones on and fresh socks. Then sleep better and a cap to keep head warm. Extra blanket inside sleeping bag. I have to have a camping cot. Cant get up and down off the ground easily. Lantern and flashlights good. We all kids and my mama sometime always went camping and fishing. My dad bought great big family tent. I remember how fun and relaxing to get away in nature. Great memories with my dad, irreplaceable. I was a tom girl too. Your older son looks just like his sister! Love the whole family❤🎉😊🙏💟✝️😊💖 Praying and God Bless!
God Almighty bless you Fit farmer and your beautiful wife , daughter and handsome children, Proverbs 10:22 ❤️❤️❤️ i wanna see the girl go out for baking and cookimg classes with her Mom too
I love marshmallows! We dont get them very often since the non-pork ones are pricey. We usually save them for Sukkot. We stayed in a tent last Sukkot with our 2 boys and it was quite the experience! It does make you a stronger person and teaches you how to do things better the next time. Shalom
