#mensmentalhealth #skateboarding #skateordie Taking some of these questions and comments out for a spin! If you're an older skater and you find yourself longing to ride a skateboard again you should absolutely do it! Stop caring about what other people think because the truth is nobody cares. But I want you to care about your happiness, mental and physical health, KEEP SHREDDING!! ❤️🛹🤘
Welcome to my journey It hasn't been easy and life has a way of getting in the way. But I pushed through all the BS and shed 70 pounds and have been progressing at a steady rate. There has also been injuries most I've bested, but some I'm still working through. It's a reality of skateboarding that you'll need to be comfortable with. Safety gear and skating within your limits can really help mitigate the risk but it's danger is never completely gone. I'm so excited to take you all along on this journey and I hope it inspires you to get back on your board. Please join me, like, subscribe and stay tuned for more skateboarding! It's been a long time off the board and I just wanted to share my experience for anyone looking to get back into skateboarding or even if you're new to it. I've missed skateboarding so much and after weight gain among other life issues skating just took a far back seat. Well my friends the time for regret is over because I'm back and loving it. I'm just a little bit older and heavier but with a healthy diet, exercise and skateboarding back in my life the pounds are melting off and flexibility and strength are coming back. Let's connect in the comments! 😊❤️🛹

Fuck yeah! 49, picked it back up again last summer- so goooooooooood! Skated Boston in the 90’s, took 25 years off, now hitting parks in Colorado. Catching pregrabs in the bowls- loving it. Bowls??? Wtf are these things?!?! We had poached financial curbs and benches and security guards, Now there are parks?!?! With B O W L S- holy shit this is amazing.

39 now. Have not skated for ten years, I’m going to pick it back up again. Started when I was ten, tore my meniscus, acl while skating at 21. Skated after I healed for years until I lost interest. Still have the love for it, that will never leave me.

I skateboarded 93-04ish. I couldn’t do more than an ollie, 50-50, and nose slide, but I loved when I skated. Back in April, my interest was sparked again for some reason. Maybe YT recommended me some Rodney Mullen videos. 20yrs after stopping, I got my 1999 World Industries board from my parent’s place and have been back at it for 3 weeks. Well, that first week was a bust. An hr skating around and my thighs were toast for 5 days, lol. But 2 wks later, I’m able to practice ollies and shove-its and have no soreness- I’m 38. It’s kind of consumed me, to my wife’s chagrin, lol. Hopefully I can keep it up!

Right. When I was young, it was a grind. I NEED to get out there and push myself as hard as possible to progress. Now I just chill. Blast off my same old shit. Look at big obstacles like, "nope. Not even trying." Just have fun.

Well said my friend, you can only move at your own pace, at least safely, it is when you try and keep up with others is when you get hurt. Of course, as a skateboarder you are still going to slam but at least you are doing it on your own terms! Keep shredding man!!

I stopped skating in 2012 when I was 18. I’m 30 now and very overweight but picked up a board again to get some cardio in. I know I’m gonna look ridiculous on a board to some people but I don’t care. I wanna go out and enjoy my 30s because I was too embarrassed to do it in my 20s.

Just hit 44 years old My daughter (16) said "dad will you teach me to skateboard?" I'm back into the boards now. I'm skating an 8.25 Zero glow in the dark deck with forged titanium independent trucks, glow I'm the dark chunky 58 spitfire wheels (glow in the dark) and oust moc 9 bearings (I removed the covers) and mob clear griptape. I'm getting old but skating is not less fun. I have to relearn almost everything though but I am excited about dad/daughter time

Picked up skating from scratch at 37 to keep up with my 7 year old. So hard mechanically but so rewarding - enjoying it as much as I enjoy snowboarding - totally epic stuff. Always wanted to learn it. Drops from higher ramps are scary but so rewarding to overcome your fears. Good mental training

I almost wish I didn't stumble upon this video... Im 54 later this year. In good shape, surf when there's waves ob the weekend, but hadn't skated in decades. Until i picked up an mbs all terrain longboard to use with our dog so she can run (beagle, cant be off leash lol). Well didn't that lead to trying it the the bowls of a couple local parks... Had some fun and a good crash that could have been worse but may have just recaught the skate bug. Longboard (and no tail especially) is terrible on transitions so I've discovered they make a longboard version of one of my fave decks back in the day (Hosoi Hammerhead). Knowing now I'm not the only gen x dad skating again might have me pulling the trigger in one. And a helmet, and LOTS of pads hahaha.

Dude this is wild that I was just recommended this video. I've had this really strong urge to start skating again this past week or two, so I went to the local shop yesterday, bought a board and shoes, and went straight to the park. 35 years old, been at least 15 since I've been to a skate park, and it was amazing... Only difference in my experience is the judgement by the other cool kids at my local park is still very real. Some people's shit just don't stink apparently, but I still did my thing and had a great time. Keep doing what you do, brother; thanks for the love...

Ten year hiatus and let me tell you all something to get you guys feeling comfortable on the board again. Buy resistance bands and do hip raises everyday. It will get your hip flexors primed and will get you back to feeling comfortable a lot faster

howdy scott, im only 32, but i havent skated in 10 years or so. i got back into it in 2022, but i was about 70 pounds overweight and didnt really take how differently i would feel on my board into consideration. after a few okay sessions i was a bit over confident and that lead to me breaking my ankle very seriously. ive got a metal rod and multiple screws in my leg for the rest of my life now. After recovering i told myself i would never skate again, that there where more important things in life now. BUT, that was 2 years ago, since then ive been feeling the itch more and more, and forced myself to lose 45 of those 70 pounds. im skating a few times a week now, and have fully gone back on my promise to myself to never skate again. im glad a stumbled on your video, made me think these last few years over. keep skating and stay safe out there!

I'll never stop boarding. Anything with wheels really. But I'm a blader. The hate is dieing but still exists. If it's about health and wellness we gotta support anyone who shows up to put the self work in, all the same. Cause the benefits should be shared. I dig the message and hope you keep it up!

38 just got a new board. Been about 25 years since I've skated. I spend most weekends at the park with my 3 and 5 year old on their scooters so might as well get in on the action as well!

im not as old as some, but stopped at 22, started again at 26. During this break i started working out and lifting. It has made me so much more confident on the board. i dont feel as tired after a session, and i dont damage my wrists/ankles, back, neck as much from taking slams.

About to hit 42 in November just started again after about 15 years now that my kids are 11 and 13 and wanna skate. Definitely a mental struggle for me it's like I know what to do and how to do it but it's frustrating getting those legs to work like you want them to 😅 Definitely starting to feel old age now it's not as easy as it was in my 20s. For me I learned the easiest thing is stick to one thing and work on it not jump all over like you used to or it's just going to throw you off until you got it down and second thing I learned is falling really sucks at our age 🤣

There seems to be a lot of us 'older' people getting back into skating. Love it got back into it a couple of years ago at 42 and was one of the best decisions I made in a long time

I’m 46 now, started skating 3 years ago after 26 years off. I was worried at first that I would look like a fool at the skatepark as a grown adult in full pads surrounded by 13 year olds. I quickly discovered a whole scene of likeminded guys and girls my age and older (some even in their 60s). It has surprised me as being one of the best things in my life - so many awesome new friends, an incredibly inclusive atmosphere, and a beautiful blend of nostalgia and new experiences. If anyone out there is considering it, just do it. Pads are completely acceptable. Go to the park early. Take it slow, don’t expect to do all the tricks you used to do (right away, anyway). Meet people, have fun, and embrace that feeling of fear and appreciate overcoming it when you learn new things. Enjoy!

I'm 35 and about 6 months ago my son wanted to start skating so I picked up the board after 20+ years off. Man, I love the time we spend skating around together, I even built a mini ramp in my backyard. I get withdrawals if I go a few days without pushing around.
