I don't know anyone who isn't crying at the end of this song. It's been said that to be country all you need to know is three chords and the truth.

Yeah, that’s why country has the most covers, most cases it doesn’t matter about the words, the same words can tell two different stories, it’s magical.

Well, this song gets me. They lost my first son twice and almost lost me. He was delivered early by emergency C-section. Three years later, I got pregnant with my second son. At my 3 month mark they did the typical blood work . We went on vacation. And when we returned there was a call from my doctor. " Call me as soon as you get this!" Come to find out, most people don't know, that there are 28 different blood incapabilities. Most people think of the RH factor. It's the only one that they can treat. We were told that during ng my C-section, some of my 1st son's blood got mixed in with mine. Probably through the cord. I had to do an amniocentesis. It was a Large C little c blood incapability. A few months later I went for a check up, they couldn't find his heartbeat any more. So I was rushed to the hospital. They found it with special equipment. But, the blood issue caused a lot of worry. It can cause everything from a heart condition to birth defects. The were every month along with an ultrasound. Then every other week. Then every week. He was born months early as well. I had to be rushed to the OR because he was in destress. He was supposed to be a Vbac not a C-section. Well, they didn't even have time to cut him out. They literally ripped him out with forceps. He had the cord around his neck. He was in such bad shape. He went to the NICU.I couldn't even see him for the whole first night. They had to cut his heels with a razor every 15 minutes to check his blood. He was jaundiced. He had to have a blood transfusion. It was the worst time in my life. And I haven't had a good life growing up. My husband and I decided not to have any more kids. Which broke my heart. I always wanted to be surrounded by family. I didn't have that growing up. But now, my boys are grown men. And tower over little me. I'm 5ft 2. And they're 6ft and 6ft 3 1/2! As hard as their start was, neither of them have ever had a serious illness. Thank God! They are my everything! 💕🙏

I almost lost my youngest daughter during her own childbirth. It was a terrifying experience. I was praying the same thing the character in the song was praying. Take me God, not her. I just remember her husband was so scared he was shaking. I never thought I would see that big towering man so afraid. And then after it was all over, finding out she had died on the table and knowing the trouble they had trying to save her and hearing her tell her story, I just can't believe how close we came. I still hate to think of that moment even three years on. It hurts. I can't imagine what those who have lost their child or wife during child birth must go through. My heart breaks for them.

Everyone's first time listening to this song are shocked at the way things take a big turn. Most of the country songs, I think, that has been shared with you guys, are the good more heartfelt meaningful songs. But Country music has it's fair share of pointless songs too ;). just not as much as other genres.

Especially some of the newer country that really went down the pop road. I hate sounding like an old man saying, "back in my day!" but country really has became very pop heavy in recent times and less about the story telling.

Tasha - you have such a beautiful soul. Your words reveal this inner well of goodness, sensitivity, and kindness. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. Your analysis of country music also applies to you - just as some music offers much more value, heart, and human relatability... so do your words. In a world of so much empty blather, you speak in such a sincere, gentle, beautiful, and - quite frankly profound - manner... you reach people on a whole different level than most. Your words penetrate. This subscriber thanks you for that! This is a gift you share with us here that quite frankly is more enriching to us than any great musical talent alone ever could be.

I love this song. It still catches me off guard to this day. I feel like the difference between country and rap, rock, blues etc., is that those geners are equally as much about the music as it is about the lyrics while country is almost entirely about the lyrics. The music in country is simply there to enhance the emotion of the vocals ad much as possible. This is why there aren't very many well known country guitarists, drumers, bassists, keyboard players etc. bc it's all about the singer. Great reaction.

They've actually studied why country music moves people to tears like no other genre. The bottom line is the song-writers make the stories specific, relatable and personal. This is one of my all time favorites. As someone that both fishes and collects watches I connect to it on many levels. You are 100 percent right about the feelings of little boys. But what really gets me is the watch. That was his grandaddy's watch, an heirloom and probably his greatest possession and he just willing to give it up. the watch end of itself has a special meaning to him and this represents how he must have felt about the girl. also everyone's gone through loss. life is fragile people leave and we can all identify with a family member who has passed. how much more can we identify with our greatest love passing?

I'm so glad y'all are discovering the value in country music. You are correct that these songs, although there are comedic and dance music songs as well, are about love and life and the qualities that make life good and valuable. Most of the lessons and tales told will not be heard in any other form in today's music although you may hear similar songs and stories from the great singers of the 1950s - 1980s.

My dad was in the army and when I was in high school, he was stationed in Seoul, Korea. Often, after school, I would go to the theater on base and watch whatever was showing. Before the movie would start, they always played music on the speakers. That is when I first heard this song, as well as Unanswered Prayers by Garth Brooks. These two songs are what got me into country music. They made me feel something. That's the same reason I love horror movies, and metal music. I want to experience the world, not only for myself, but through the eyes of others. When an artist shares their life with you in such a well thought out, beautiful way, it sticks with you. I strive to do this in the books I write, the movies I make, and the music I create as well.

I remember when this first came out and I was the same! I bawled my eyes out at the end! I love country music for the same reasons y’all said. I’m a native Texan and literally born and raised on our farm, let’s just leave it as a few decades ago 😂. Country takes me back to those days and I go down memory lane. I’d love to suggest Legend of Woolley Swamp by Charlie Daniels! It’s an awesome ghost story of a swamp legend. It’s pretty cool. And Charlie, hands down was the best fiddle player in country music! I just stumbled on yalls channel and I’m so glad I did!

A little research says that she did live and you can see her running at the very end of the video. Note early in the song his dad said "some day you'll change your mind" so later the context of "don't take the girl" changed.

I prefer to believe that in the end, they both lived and now he's taking his own son (Jr) fishing... This is a beautiful song.
