I am able to do 30 sec hiss easily and have air left over. However I have a hard time with lip trills where I feel like I run out of air really fast even though I try to do them softly, do you have any insight about why this is?

Hi Sarah, there could be a few reasons. You could be blowing too much air with the lip trill. See if you can sustain a AH vowel for 20 to 30 seconds and pay attention to the energy required in your body. Then alternate to the lip trill, you should be using the same amount of energy as the vowel. No need to push at the lips and not need for extra air. It's very gentle. There also could be a lack of body connection with the lip trill. Really I'd have to see what you're doing to make a proper assessment.
