JUST TO CLARIFY, THE WIIM WAS BEING POWERED BY AN UPGRADED LINEAR POWERSUPPLY AND CUSTOM CABLE. IT WILL NOT PERFORM THIS WAY WITHOUT IT.

@@user-fh7cv7vm7j Per what I read the power supply for the WiiM 3 didn't need a linier power supply or special cables either. I check on this being many say you need a linerier power supply for the WiiM Pro and according to Amirm from ASR he stated not necessary.

I just received my eversolo dmp-a6 yesterday and it's an excellent unit. Unfortunately it did not sound better than my Pd creative modded node 2i with external linear power supply. The node had blacker background and better instrument separation. Overall slightly better clarity. Not night and day difference but enough to bother me if I decided to keep the Eversolo. Shame because I really like the Eversolo otherwise.

@@sonicplayroompiano4302 modding and adding a good LPS can be an effective way of increasing sound quality!! I fin the EverSolo sound to be more in room and surrounding. Slightly less detailed but a great soundstage. But everyone has their flavor. Mines paired with the ares II DAC which is a stunning pairing. My buddy runs a Wiim mini with an external linear power supply and custom silver cables, you talk about layering and detail with an ink black background. 🥰🥰🤩🤩

Well, I don't like the word "better", and try not to use it, although I fail often. Stock Wiim VS Stock Eversolo the Solo is far superior. If you get the Linear Power Supply and proper cables the Wiim streaming network can be a little cleaner and focused but at the cost of some soundstage dimensionality. Also, the Solo takes a few weeks to burn in and lose some of that ever so slight digital glare. I am still loving the solo today. :) Cheers.

I like your review about the eversolo a6, but I wonder if you have any experience comparing the streamer of the primare np5 and the one of the eversolo a6? What a great review! Thank you for the deeper dive into this beautiful unit. I have this unit that replaced my BS Node 2i and found it sounds much better overall. I use it with Roon and play all my music via Roon. The one thing that I see missing is AV integration into systems like Control 4, Crestron etc. I was able to find an old Zidoo Media player driver I can use to change the input to this device but no driver for power on/off sequences or anything else. That would be the question I would ask Eversolo as to what are there plans for AV Integration into Control 4, Crestron, URC etc. Hopefully if you can find out for me it would be much appreciated. Thanks PM

I have noticed a little mid-range scoop in the sound of the Eversolo, it tends to affect the impact and sound of the snare hits, thins them out a touch.

very interesting review that answered many of my questions regarding streaming and certain dac comparison. I have a wiim mini streamer going into an eversolo Z8 dac and I am pretty happy with this combo and I believe it is in the sweet spot. It is not worth to upgrade to Eversolo DMP A6 as all in on or to WiiM & Schumann ladder dac combo which I was thinking to do it for a while but know I think I will stick with what I have

Great video, James! I have a Ladder Schumann as well. I just took my Node 2I out and replaced it with a WiiM. I’m going off topic a bit. Personally, I like the WiiM app much better than BlueOS. Tiny icons don’t really work for a 70 year old guy. I have not been able to hear a difference between WiiM and Node. The Ladder Schumann has a fantastic soundstage with detail and the bass that’s missing in the Ares for me. I was able to get it on sale for $1099 so it was no more than an updated Ares. I’m sorry I didn’t have a chance to see your last video. Back to subject of vid. So, based on all that hot air, I really don’t need a dac..That being said, the streamer would be the most important feature. Ultimate question for me is it worth the difference cost between WiiM and Eversolo.

The A6 runs Android and can run Apple Music or any other service that has an app in the Google store. Only FiiO R7 can match this. (If WiiM did this I would hop aboard "pronto"). Ladder DACs are XXth Century tech 😅. The Eversolo has an excellent DAC.

@@abxaudiophiles A week after owning the Node N130 I upgraded the power supply and onboard power interface. It turned a dreadful sounding machine into a very warm, open and dynamic sounding machine. I think it would be hard to beat. Onboard DAC now sounds extremely musical and definitely not harsh. I've had to put it through a $5000 DAC to get it to sound better. My Arcam DAC with upgraded power supply barely made any difference. IT's only when I went to a Bryston DAC did the sound expand. The internal sound ( DAC ) is very good and I could easily live with it if I had no external DAC

I just got my Eversolo yesterday afternoon. My first impression was that, compared to my previous Onkyo NS-6130, it seemed to had less bass (the Onkyo has AKM dac chips). This afternoon I noticed that the bass on the DMP-A6 was coming up. Great sound stage, great separation and "localization" of the instruments, very clean and enjoyable to listen to. In the meantime, I was curious to see how would my Theta Miles CD player sounds connected to the coaxial input of the Eversolo. Man, really good, at least so far, bu I still have to listen to a few more CD's and with more attention. Nevertheless, the Theta is a CD player from 1998, and there has been a great evolution on the digital world. Other thing I noticed is that the Eversolo is great and playing flac files from a HD. More full bodied sound compared to streaming Tidal HI-Fi Plus. On what regards the app, it looks great, I'm getting used to it, but as you mentioned, it should have a home "button" on every "screen mode". It would be a lot easier. Now, I just have to find the better way to transfer the audio files from my HD to the internal SSD I bought. The owner's manual is not very intuitive. Does anyone knows if, to do so, one have to hook the PC/laptop via USB? Thanks for the review, by the way.

@@abxaudiophiles , that's what I did, but it doesn't transfer. I'm getting into the conclusion that I have to hook the Hard drive to the laptop and plug the laptop to the Eversolo. Otherwise, the Eversolo does not recognize. When I hooke the hard drive to it yesterday, "it" told that I had an external hard drive connected and if I wnat to use it. I this I will have to write to Eversolo asking this....Thanks ;-)

I have been using the Eversolo...strictly as a network transport over the past 3-4 weeks now. Very big improvement over the Pd creative modded node 2i+Sbooster in my system. I finally tried the DAC section of the Eversolo today and I thought it was really good. Or my Anthem STR Preamp has a mediocre DAC. That said, your comment about the "digitalness" is something I noticed. I am unsure if this is what folks refer to as digital glare but noticed the "Ssss" was a little prominent for me. The difference was small though and is system dependent of course. All that said, I do miss the BluOS app (even if I had issues with it every once in awhile). Some really simple things irk me....where is M3u playlist support? Being able to quickly scroll/jump to an artist *without* have to search. The lags you mention. The inability to create playlists where songs are from multiple sources (local + streaming services), etc.

Thank you for the review. I too am considering the Eversolo DMP A-6. However the main item I am seeking is a Streamer/DAC or stand alone DAC that can out perform my DAC circuit of my Arcam AVR 850. I had a Node X and sent it back because the DAC circuit was not better than my Arcam and I don't need a over featured Streamer for my system. I purchased the WiiM Pro which is phenomenal device. UI interface is just fine in fact found it more robust than the NODE X no need to invest in another Streamer/DAC per UI the WiiM Pro is just fine. Being I own a fantastic AVR receiver with amazing sonic properties for both digital media and analog media my search is not for a fancy streamer with a bunch of features I don't need. When I can purchase an A-6 and I find the DAC provides an "Oh Wow" experience it would be something I would strongly consider owning. However, I am thinking the DAC circuit will be about the same as the NODE X which has been very much improved with a new ESS DAC circuit. I will test the A-6 and see if it is a good fit for my system being the utilization of the DAC circuit for digital media by passing my DAC in my AVR 850.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on how the DAC in the Eversolo unit compares to your Arcam AVR 850. When you already have a wonderfully built AVR, such as your Arcam, the WiiM product is an even better value and also helps affirm that you made a good purchase.

Hi, yes I will post my findings. I just got a S.M.S.L SU10 which I am hooking up tonight to compare this fine DAC against the AVR850 as well. Many state it is superior to the Cirrus DAC circuit of the 850. I will post my findings of this comparison as well via stream and CD reproduction.

I just got a SMSL SU-1 ($80 DAC with the AKM4493S chip) that is utilized in many of the DACS that i would love to try (mainly the Geshelli Labs J2 - AKM). I've read this is much better than the Schiit Modi 3E that I have now, so I figured for $80, why not. Hope you enjoy your new DAC!!!!

Well alot has happened since I first posted this. The SMSL SU-1 is an awesome Dac and in some instances sounds a bit better than the Arcam 850. But being the cost is over a grand I sent it back because the internal DAC of the Arcam is that good. I wouldn't say it is lacking in any form. On another note I replaced the Arcam with a new Sony ES5000 AVR. The improvement to everything is audio and video is significant. Sony built their own 32 bit DAC and it sounds fantastic.

That is a great way!! The DMP has a very nice dual chip dac that is nice and clean and images into the room. If you have a really nice external DAC I prefer the USB out on the DMP as this gives all the work to the DAC and lets the DMP just be a streamer.

How is the "digitalness" you described now that you have had the DMP-A6 a couple months longer? I have the Master Edition of the A6 and it is improving on sound after 100+ hours. One fellow group member has run it 24/7 for a little over a month and they said that it improves appreciably after about one month of constant running. The best is yet to come! :-)

Did you use Tidal Connect? I find that, there is a better sound, when using the EverSolo app compared to Tidal Connect. It sounds more holographic and composed when using the app.

@@abxaudiophiles That would make for an interesting video, how Tidal Connect affects the audio quality, and why that is. I tried getting a response from Tidal, but that not easy to get a straight up answer from them. I found using Roon also results in better audio quality, and I also found users in a Naim forum having a similar experience with the nativeNaim app producing better SQ than Tidal Connect.

I have an Aqua Ladder Dac, this thing doesn't compare as Dacs go, as a Streamer it is very good. If you go through the XLR's I tend to get some harshness at high frequencies.. I found the Innous Mini Dac to sound better and even Audiolabs 7000A to sound better. Now as a streamer it is excellent and I love it for that! I had similar issues with HiFi Rose, just not liking the Sabre Dac's in these units. I agree with you in Wiim, I have the Pro.... I had just the opposite effect, Dac was not good to me, but Streaming was good. Any suggestions on using a better smallish Dac with the Wiim Pro?

To keep it in the same price range, the SMSL U1 is ok.... But the Wiim streaming network needs a really good linear power supply to even be tolerable in most cases, and still even then the DAC leaves a lot to be desired. I will say after having the solo now for a few months, that slight digital hint on the top end has gone, and I am now REALLY liking the USB out to the ARES II, Putting all the load on the ARES was a big jump in sound performance. @abxaudiophile I wonder what you would think of the Master version of the DMP-A6? The DMP-A6M. Upgraded components. $1300. About to pull the trigger on it, what i like and it seems not many notice, is the ability to output native up to 5.1 DSD64 and FLAC 24/192 via the dedicated audio only HDMI out. I’ll use that to go into my Anthem AVM90 then for 2 channel playback I’ll send the Eversolo usb out to my Gustard X26 Pro DAC as I love its sound but will definitely compare the two.

Actually, "the star of the show" is the streaming section of Eversolo DMP-A6 (using digital out with external DAC). At least that's what most of reviewers are saying: iiWi Reviews, Steve Huff, 13th Note Hifi... Yes, using Eversolo DMP-A6 as one box solution, DAC section sounds very good and it is absolutely bargain, but using it as streaming transport, it is supposedly in the category of Innuos Pulse Mini or Lumin U2 Mini (or even slightly better). So it is little bit confusing that digital out of cheap WiiM streamer beats Eversolo.

There are folks which already have very good standalone DAC and are buying Eversolo DMP-A6 primarily as streamer transport to rival Innuos/Lumin Minis. And then, suddenly, WiiM streamer with upgraded power supply and cables is even better? Maybe in one system it is, I don't know, only guessing...

A good option. As I run a full tube amp I enjoy the clarity it brings as I get that warmth and holographic vibe from my R8. But yes. Very slight differences in those settings to fine tune your flavor. 😉😉

Yes I always wonder what cables these guys are using? Has he got silver cables in the system? That will give a cold sound minimising mids. What power cable? Etc. I can my my system sound sterile or very warm depending on power cables and interconnects.

Inhave a schitt bifrost 2 dac feeding into a marantz pm11s3 integrated . Right now using node 2 for the streamer . Would the eversoli be a better choice if I were to use it as a streamer only . Also looking at the eversolo a8

So your chain is Node 2 - BF2 - PM11 and you’re asking if the A6 in place of the node as a streamer only? If that’s the case, I much prefer the A6 as a streamer across the board in all aspects from the node. I’ve spent considerable time owning both. But I would not say it would be worth the cost to purchase the A6 for just a streamer. Unless you really love the software, presentation, display, and versatility of the solo world. Personally if I had to make a move and you’re loving the EVERSOLO world, I would go with the R8, sell the BF2 and NODE and get some of your money back…. Not a massive sound quality difference between any of them when just using the streaming network and bypassing DAC and clock depending on digital output.

@@abxaudiophilesI'm so deep into the Apple world but I'm tired of using AirPlay for Apple Music or using my iPad to my bifrost and not being able to change songs from the couch lol.... I hear what you hear saying about the A8 and to be honest that is the model I'm looking for..just don't want to lose my multibit sound in the bifrost goin with a delta sigma . Unless the A8 sounds as good and hopefully better as the bifrost or Ares 2 dac .

@@alvidrez7956 We prefered the AKM based Pecan Pi+ from Orchard Audio over the ARES II, BF2, and The Ladder Schuman, and the Eversolo A6, so maybe that AKM in the A8 will be good, I have not heard it, but I feel your struggle..

@@abxaudiophiles hearing mixed reviews saying that the implementation of the AKM in the A8 is tuned to sound more ESS than traditional AKM😢... not sure what to believe . I may look into checking out that orchard dac though .. problem is my streamer is a Node2i and feel the streamer game needs to be stepped up .. for cds i have the oppo 203 as a transport going into the Bifrost ... as far as my preamp and amp the marantz pm11s3 is top notch

I’ll tell you the biggest problem with this unit. It is literally UNAVAILABLE in the US. This makes me crazy!!!! Why are all these RU-vid reviewers hawking a product that is literally impossible to purchase. I’ve “pre-ordered” it from 2 sites and both orders were ultimately cancelled due to the fact they couldn’t deliver it. I’m sick of this crap!

I returned mine… I thought the DAC didn’t sound as good as my SMSL SU-9… Seriously the DAC is not that great if you heard others to compare it to. As a Streamer it was excellent but has a few issues … Since I didn’t want to utilize the internal DAC and plug in my other DiGITAL devices to pass through the A6, you can’t… EVERY DIGITAL INPUT MUST USE THE INTERNAL DAC, so actually this really isn’t a pass through device as they claim. Also had an issue on Coaxial input where the left VU meter would lock up… found this issue happened once I engaged Air Play and occurrd now on all inputs, probably is a software bug and hope they corrected in the latest firmware update. I really believe they cheapened out on the DAC CHIP to make the price point… I would have paid an extra hundred or two if they used a better DAC so I’m now waiting for the next generation of the unit or the competition to step up which I’m sure will be the caee now that the price point has been established before I repurchase. Seriously, it’s a Lower Quality DAC built around a Decent Streamer and it shows.

1. We found the internal dac when isolated from the streaming section to be on par with the Ladder Schuman, and a very great dac for clarity and focus, with a slightly forward presentation. 2. If you use any of the "Digital Outputs" on the A6 it bypasses the internal DAC. 3.The VU meters have always worked for me and I was one of the first ones to get the A6, I am sure your issue should be fixed by now, they have had a TON of updates and improvements to date. 4.Running dual ESS dac chips and based on the internal DAC performance, it does not appear to be an intentional "Cheapening" of the product. 5.We actually in our many members reviewing this unit found that the weak link was actually the sound of the streaming network and not the DAC at all. When utilizing a separate streamer and running it into the A6, using only its DAC, we found a pretty massive increase in clarity and focus, with a slightly darker background. 6.But as we all know, this whole game is subjective in nature and its 1000% dependent on what gear you integrate with it, as well as your room interactions, all mixed in with personal preference. So I am not arguing your experience. Just adding some second party perspective! :) Cheers....

@@abxaudiophiles We too were some of the first to receive the A6 prior to it’s US release to evaluate for the North America Distributor. We had (2) units with identical issues on two different set ups. The DAC Chipset only runs on 2 Channels compared to the Pro Version of the chip that runs on 8, you certainly can hear the difference. The systems they were attached were no joke… Odyssey Kismet Mono Blocks w/ Odyssey Candela Pre hooked to Maggi .7’s. System (2) Coincident Technology Frankenstein MK 2 Amps, Statement 2 Pre Amp to Avantagrave Duo’s I’m glad you’re happy with the unit… Being this type of unit is in it’s infancy ..I’ll wait till they or someone else comes out with a better unit or just a streamer without a DAC. Really its a Mediocre DAC at best built around a Good Streamer.

Most people or consumer in the sub $1000 tier won’t be pairing it with gear of that level. I’m curious what DAC/PreAmp/Streamer combo or stand alone unit could bring to the table what the EverSolo DMP-A6 does for the same price? Thoughts?

@@abxaudiophiles Nothing yet but watch what shows up this coming model year from the competition… Eversolo showed a HiFi Rose Type Product can be made and sold at a reasonable price point… HiFi Rose just introduced a Streamer Only Unit.. The Rose Without Thorns is what it’s being referred to… Seriously I hope Eversolo answers back with just a Streamer w/ No DAC for people who already are happy with their existing DAC and not have to downgrade.

@@abxaudiophiles In my system utilizing the WiiM Pro with my internal DAC of my AVR 850, the performance is great and I didn't feel I needed to spend $900.00 for all the features of the Node X. Sound quality is totally on par of Node X with headphones I couldn't hear a difference between the DAC of the AVR 850 vs the ESS Sabre DAC of the Node.
