I just want a laser that can do more intricate cuts with paper (than I can get with a Cricut/Silhouette/Scan N Cut, etc.). The size and profile of this one looks very promising! I was considering the M1 X-tool but now I'm really glad I didn't pull the trigger on that one just yet. Thanks, Sean & Ken! So exciting! Oh, man. SUPER exciting!!!

if my space was bigger I would be the first in line to buy it. It's expensive, yes, but the potential is enormous. AND unlike Cricut, they allow any brand material, any DSP brand etc.. I really don't like Cricut, anything they sell as "inovative stuff" we find it elsewhere for a cheaper price, same or better quality. Thanks guys for showing us this new machine. Now we have to wait for it to be available in Europe.

Diode lasers are everywhere for extremely cheap. Glowforge is really gonna have to bring it to make this worthwhile.

The 6W power and size of this is going to be very limiting. It might say 1/4" material, but that's a bit of a stretch. It'll make a nice entry-level machine for those who can't afford anything else.

I wouldn't mind this. I have the 30W Co2 Flux Beamo and I was looking for something that I couldn't have to really have a heavy-duty ventilation system for. Plus those lasers now go up to 30w.

There are a lot of lasers on the market in the $400+ range and Some do cut thin sheet metals or do metal engraving. Where this stands out is unlike cheaper alternatives, it comes as one unit. You're not required to buy shields or "mats" . It comes assembled and vented as a unit. The cheaper lasers don't. Most are an erector set construction with a motherboard, rails and motors. Everything else is sold separately and doesn't have any support. Glow forge has customer service support, video and communities. So what you're really paying for is convenience support and hopefully a better warranty. Also width. Most of the rail systems are very limited on applications and apps. For entry level, like me, it gets complicated and confusing.

Thanks for sharing those details! I pretty much only want to cut paper and to test my files and an enclosed machine like this is less intimidating than the erector set style. Maybe it's not any safer, but it "feels" safer and, well, it looks so much more attractive when set out on a desk or work bench than the others, LOL!

@@JulieEbersole it's safer because they give you all the safety pieces but obviously you will need to know temperatures, cut depths and all of those settings because it's entirely possible to set something on fire in a glow forge. I've heard that it's happened. best of luck if you take the dive!
