😳 ANDREW IS CONVERTING HIS ARRMA SENTON BLX TO A BIG ROCK! 🦏

Arrma Senton 3s BLX modifications log update.
Having grown weary of filling the chassis with muck and all that entails, Andrew is taking drastic action and swapping out the shortcourse body shell in favour of a "wheels out" type.
The Arrma Big Rock appears to share the same wheelbase and chassis with the Senton - unlike the other similar styled trucks - so it appears to be only a case of three components to change: Shell, body posts and chassis side wall extenders.
The wheels have been swapped out for some 2.2 crawler beadlocks and crawler tyres - both from ebay - and tests to date show them to work fine on concrete and grass. I'm sure stock Dboots would be better, but £60 for a set of those isn't necessary when these are on the shelf anyway.
Painting is next, using whatever is in the cupboard, so stay tuned.

thanks for watching!

You do? Excellent! What a small world. I sold it to Tel after he sold his Kraton, and then he sold the Senton. 🤷 Will you keep it as a big rock or return it to stock?

Awesome video! I was thinking of doing the same swapping back and forth. Definitely bigger wheels and tires are a game changer! Cheers

Thanks Dave, I was surprised that the wheels stood up so well - though it was a grass field rather than a real grippy abrasive surface. I think I'll be carrying traditional wheels/tyres in my pack too for the first couple of outings.

All you need is velcro along the steps on either side?

I also have an Arrma Senton BLX 3S and I'm using a protection cover from Dusty Motors. It helped a TON keeping dust, gravel, and leaves out of the chassis and components. It's even splash resistant. The only downside is that it traps in heat, so a fan for the motor is a must.

Interesting you say that. It is exactly what I was hoping mine would do. But it made no difference, so maybe I had the wrong one fit wise (they don't make one specifically right?) or fitted it badly 🙄. I will try it again. Cheers for the comment. 👍

@@antrc I used the universal Large size, which I think is 13" and had to trim some of the velcro parts off in square pieces to go around where the side braces or bumper u's screw into the side of the chassis. The breathable material seems very fragile, so I lined the areas that I cut with flexible shoe goo to prevent tearing when I peel off the cover. I also took off the stock front side splash guards (only the parts that flared out to the side bumpers) so that the cover could hug the chassis better. With everything fitted snug, the only big gaps where things can get through are the gaps where the steering linkages have to move through. It's not perfect, but it cut down my clean up time in half.

@@rockervdrive nice! I will take a look at mine but it has just transformed into a Big Rock so hopefully having the wheels way out there will help enormously. Still have the net tho so yes will have another go.

I’m having the same problem with my senton might just get big rock side guards and think the dusty motors universal cover size medium plus meant to fit keep these updates coming cheers
@antrc
@antrc 4 года назад
the side guards will help but you will then lose the side bolsters for the shell I think - the grab handle looking things - so the shell will flap and vulnerable to cracking I'd expect. Worth a try tho :) And if I can get away without putting the hairnet on the chassis I will, but yes it should fit better now.

Surprised the beadlock wheels worked. I would have expected the tires to come off the wheels. No use for interiors on a basher monster truck, it's not really made for the look. Have fun!

Yes me too, was expecting carnage!! I'm more at peace with the lack of detail allowed, but still.......:)

Nice you can convert it back and forth. Muck in the chassis always a issue with faster Rc.

Brother, great stuff! I think your assessment of its stock flaws is bang on and fancy your approach towards remediation. I am especially fond of your wheel choice. I know you said that they're beadlocks from eBay but can you tell me anything more or share a link perhaps? I've had the aluminum method wheels of the same aesthetic in my cart for like a year but they're some goofy amount of money that I can't bring myself to spend, but I would pull the trigger on $60. Anyway, thank you and keep the great content coming!

Hi mate, I got my Senton blx from Wheelspin too! (In Newport for university) I have decided to give your mushroom container idea a go, but with a large one to cover the whole centre section of the chassis - there are still holes so air should be able to circulate, plus no glue is needed as it just clamps between the chassis and the body. However, I have found that Scorched RC (online) make a vacuum formed set of inner fenders which would solve the problem - plus they do fenders for a bunch of other cars. Unfortunately they are out of stock at the moment, but you can enter your email and they will alert you when it is available again. George

Really? Damn wish I'd known at the time! I've turned mine into a Big Rock now so the wheels are outside the body shell. Doesn't look as cool but it stays much cleaner.

I have duratrax my tires 14mm hex looks super mean a complete wheely machine with a 6,s blx with stock motor big bore shocks needs a far better wheely bar. Likes to stand vertical ride along the tail?

Sounds amazing man. I need to get this rig out now the weather is improving. Thanks for the suggestions! And yes I think you need a better wheelie bar lol. Maybe a long one too....

Great idea, I had considered this to. Do the normal BR RC shocks rub from the factory like that? Or is that just something from it being a Senton?

I think it's just one of those things. If I got my hands on a proper Big Rock I'd know if that's how Arrma intended it. 👍

Great video, keep up the good work ! I have a Senton and your video has given me more confidence to follow/copy your great ideas ? What are your next plan ? I have tried to find upgrades to the steering system in Aluminum as the plastic stock is quite sloppy !! Any thoughts, Thanks again. Len

Hey Len, yes there is some play - I've replaced the balls in the steering links already - just Arrma plastic ones - because they seem to wear quick. I see metal ones in its future

tried a proper zip bag for it and it proved useless. Maybe with the taller sides I can sort something else. But I'm hopeful the wheels outside will cure most of it.
