Be kind to yourself. Life is perfectly imperfect. Every moment we are given the opportunity to start afresh with loving-kindness towards ourselves, towards others.
If you think your body is here to impress, make friends and influence people, then this recording might not be for you. If however, you have ever felt shame or unease in your skin and would like to make peace with your body, feel healthier and more energised, then I hope you find this session helpful. Perhaps you have found yourself in an eternal loop of lose weight, gain weight, lose weight, gain weight. Despite your best efforts to lose unhealthy weight and get in shape, you get the exact opposite; perhaps you're consciously aware that you relationship with your body is one of fear and shame. These emotions keep you trapped in diet culture. Consciously you are aware of wanting to be a healthy weight, but subconsciously your extra weight is somehow protecting you. If your subconscious mind could clearly express what it is protecting you from, it might tell you that your extra poundage shields you from receiving unwanted or uncomfortable attention; your weight defends you against intimacy, from yourself and from others. Feeling ashamed of your body, paradoxically, is more "normal" than feeling respect and kindness for your body. With this in mind, I have created this session, specifically designed to break the cycle of shame and fear surrounding your body and your relationship with food. Hunger is perfectly natural and healthy. Learning to allow yourself to feel your hunger and feed yourself healthy food is a radical act of loving kindness and a step towards developing a relationship of trust in your food choices. Know that having "naughty" food (whatever this might be for you), does not make you weak-willed or unloveable. And it most definitely is not a helpful reason to completely self-sabotage your efforts to eat healthily. Put another way, if one of your car tyres burst, would you go ahead and burst the remaining tyres on your car? Or, if you had a bunch of flowers and one flower had died, would you throw away the entire bouquet of flowers? A "yes" to either of those questions is exactly what we do when we act from a place of fear and shame towards our bodies and food. The good news is that counter to fear and shame, it is possible to develop peace and kindness instead. To begin to feel and allow our hunger, to eat mindfully and move more in a way in which we are "with ourselves" brings us closer to the peace and loving-kindness we truly desire (and often seek in trying to make friends and influence people).
