YTA, your wife had to deal with what you are dealing with for 2 weeks. It doesn't matter how much you want your wife to help. You had to deal with it for only one afternoon. Once again she handled the kids for 2 weeks with no help from you at all.
Married couples don't take separate vacations. Leave the kids at sure, but inly a greedy basterd would leave his wife at home. It is beyond selfish to do so. You aren't married you have a roommate with a few extras.

Everyone saying that YTA, but if you know about kids then you know their behavior is indicating how the other parent was (strict vrs lax) while OP was gone. Basically the other parent had been so lax that the kids were uncontrollable. Other parent didn't want to go on vacation, they decided not to go- what's going on is other parent is sh1t at raising kids and OP does sound like they're trying their best.
it never said that she didn’t want to go, just that “it was decided” he could use all the money for himself and pawn the kids off on her. he agreed to watch them so it’s his job that day. HE wanted to go to the bbq and wife didn’t, but she went, and now he’s mad she won’t play single mom while he has a beer. also that’s completely untrue about kids. they’re at a bbq and are going to be rowdy. it actually reflects THAT parents behavior. kids are often better behaved for grandparents when they are wild at home because they only do what they know they can get away with, and have fully tested the boundaries at home while they are still unsure of how to act with grandparents/aunts/uncles/babysitters/non primary caregivers. so it’s usually the opposite of what you’re saying. lmao in no way does anything in this post indicate she’s a bad mother, you just think it must be women’s fault when clearly he’s the ahole.
Mom clearly wanted to stay home for a single afternoon seeing as she has played single parent for 2 weeks. Only for Op to stomp on the plans made in advance for his own wants. It's cut out here, but Op actually yelled at his wife to "help with her kids for once" in front of everyone. Yes, kids will act out if raised with few restrictions. But they will also fuss more if they're used to getting away with more under a specific person's care. For the point of mom not wanting to go on vacation, this version of the story makes it seem that way, but from what I can tell, in the original it was pointed out as the dad's plan without proper discussion.

Yes the fuck he is. She had all of the kids for 2 weeks and he can’t watch them by himself for ONE fucking day. He went on vacation without her and the kids to come back not let her relax rather take her to a cookout let people insult her and asked if he’s an asshole. Yeah he was. Fucking ignorant.
