My grandma who lived on a very poor homestead in Kentucky was the cleanest person I've ever known. To quote her..." you can't help being poor, but there's no excuse for being nasty"

My mother always said, “soap is cheap and water is free.” She was poor as a church mouse when she married my father and lived in a tiny house where the water froze in winter and dried up in summer. But DANG she kept a tidy house. 😊

Those who criticize the pantries will be the first to go begging to the people who have a pantry.

Hunger is not sexist … male or female, young or old.. I keep my surroundings as well as pantry organized to keep me calm and sane for the future of myself and my family. 👍🙏 I’m not out to impress anyone. 🙏❤️

My great grandmother lived through WWI, WWII and the great depression. She was one of my favorite people in the whole world. She died when I was 13, I sure wish I would have known to ask her more questions about how they survived.

I’ve been out of work for a month and a half, start my new job next week! because of preparation from the last couple years, food was one less worry for me during this time. Pantries are essential for getting through unexpected bumps in the road as well as the big crises, doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Thanks for all you do.

Sounds like she just tried to use all her big words in one article, while she picked up her latte, vegan muffin and jammed it out on her tablet. ✌️

First word was "Chicago".You don't even have to read the article...

1st problem...CHICAGO! That lessens credibility alone! 2nd, EVERY city has the attitude "How DARE you aquire a house & land big enough to take care of yourself without US providing what WE think you need!"

Amen sister! My Grandma was the same. A duck IS a duck and can’t be a fish. I loved every word you said. God bless you and yours.

I very rarely comment, just giving thumbs up now and then. However, this was beyond ridiculous. We are full time farmers. In addition to our field crops, we have a garden, chickens and cattle. I put up food through canning, dehydrating and freezing, all year long. It would be very unwise to not do so. Our crops were wiped out this last year due to drought. Just like every generation before us, preserving insures food security during tough times. The only people who would see this as privileged, classist or racist, is someone who has never truly worked a day in their life. They need to get out of their desk chair and find out what a true work day feels like starting at 5 am and finishing after dark. Is it a privilege to work until you’re drenched with sweat and wearing blisters? Damn straight! Is it classist? Lol yes hard working class! Is it racist? Last I saw the fields, plants, and animals couldn’t care less what color/ethnicity or or religion we are. Neither does my God. People like this are so determined to keep stirring up trouble they don’t even make sense. Sorry for the rant. I’m just SO sick of this behavior! Patara I love your channel. Ty

I am fairly certain root cellars were one of the most prevalent and early “pantries” and had everything to do with food preservation over winter and nothing to do with social status or skin color.

I have so much to say about this that it would be a book. I’m only going to say that I’m older feminine woman that is cleaning her pantry in a frilly flowered dress. So there!

My aunt and uncle on my dad's side went through the Depression, lived in a cold, Iowa, one-room shack in the beginning. Then, through working at a local slaughter house gathered enough $$$ to build a modest ranch style home. To this day, I remember visiting them in the 1970's. Stacks and stacks of canned goods were all over the house, including the dining room and living room floors. The Depression affected them so much their whole house was a pantry.

My husband works the garden with me, prepares vegetables and meat for freezing and canning with me and cans with me. He can do it as well as I can. Pantries are for families, not sexist. Cleanliness is vital and organization key to success!

I think I will start calling my pantry a “Larder” like they did back in the old days.

My grandma also always says “soap is cheap”. She raised six children in poverty and she survived and kept them fed by cooking basics from scratch and foraging. No matter how poor they were, she took pride in keeping their hair cut neatly, everyone always washed and clean. I cannot understand nowadays, so many people do not take pride in being clean and neat. Both in personal appearance as well as their home.
