Welcome to another railCare cab ride! This time, we find ourselves in a trusty old Swiss made Re 420 locomotive and will drive our train from the hub in Wangen bei Olten into the main hub in Schafisheim. This video has many specialties to offer, the highlight surely being at the end of the video. Don't miss it! The main hub in Schafisheim can only be acessed from one side, which means we will drive past it, uncouple and drive the locomotive around our train, hook it onto the train again and then drive directly into the main hub. It is located in Schafisheim, however the train station it is connected to is Hunzenschwil, don't let that detail confuse you. It is far from being the sunniest day in Switzerland, so please sit back and enjoy the warmth in the cab while looking out onto the Swiss landscape!

The best: the final, truck and train working together!!!

I was a truck driver and worked in Switzerland briefly, and one of my favourite memories was watching and listening to the trains in the yard at Muttenz. Probably sounds sad, but it was great.

Thank you! I love your videos! As a frequent visitor to Switzerland over half a century, there is no place I would rather live and work. Being an engineer who loves working with their hands, the ability to appreciate Swiss craftsmanship, cleanliness and order inspires me to do better in my daily life. From my perspective, Switzerland and Germany embrace what I call "A Culture of Quality" that cannot be duplicated elsewhere. They show the rest of us how work should be done! - AP in California

I would add the following countries to your list. They're countries where the craftsmanship is top notch: Scandinavia (Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark), Japan, Austria and the Netherlands. For me, I have experience of the products of all the above countries and they've always been properly done. I've never been disappointed. Warm greetings from Las Palmas, Gran Canary (not a native Las Palmasian, just working & living here, can't complain about the climate here 🌴 ☀️ 🌊).

Mal wieder was Besonderes!

There sure was a lot of freight traffic going this way. There were two that passed us before we started, and another one waiting to follow, and then we were running alongside another one at Olten! Oh, and one coming off the branch from Zofingen at Lenzburg!

Thanks for another RailCare clip, these are full of small details that are so easily overlooked by the casual passer-by - good also to travel the quieter side of the Gexi triangle and see the transfer off the mainline at Lenzburg. 3 thoughts: firstly, you've previously shown us the static brake valve setups in Muttenz, which save time building up and testing trains. Obviously, on the open road by Dottikon storage sidings, you don't get that luxury - how much extra time do you need to reconnect the train and test the brakes? Presumably, given that you're on the main North - South transit route, you're going to be waiting a while for a slot anyway. Secondly, does the diesel (at the end) tow you off the site? Thirdly, since we're in the area, were you ever involved with the container trains for the SMD Kölliken cleanup, and, if so, do you have any anecdotes you could share? Good to see the self-loading operation you hinted at in the previous video. Overall a tasty treat - thank you once more - look forward to the next one, stay safe until then \m/
@RailwayEmotions
@RailwayEmotions 2 года назад
Whenever a locomotive is coupled onto a train, the brakes of the train have to be checked ("Zusatzbremsprobe"). A static brake setup wouldn't have changed anything in this case. Yes, our locomotive has been put in "towing" mode and the diesel took care of the rest. Unfortunately, I have had no business with the cleanup of the SMDK.

Great video as expected, and thanks for the impressions at the hub. Small feedback: Please let us take part of the whole conversations/radio talks instead of just exposing the marshaller and the operator, but not your own voice.... showing radio talks via subtitles might be an idea for the future.
@RailwayEmotions
@RailwayEmotions 2 года назад
Thanks for your suggestion, I might try something like that next time. Keep in mind my personal goal with these videos is and has always been to show the views and the operation, for rail fans, professionals and travel-hungry people alike, and not getting too technical in the process.
@danielberger1378
@danielberger1378 2 года назад
@@RailwayEmotions I totally agree with you, but my point actually was: Include the whole conversations, or nothing at all (a one-sided audio just doesn't seem right for me as a viewer/listener), hence my suggestion with the subtitles
@roboftherock

My first thought was this is a continuation of the earlier video which terminated in Wangen b Olten, but when the origin of the train was shown I realised it was not. One of the nice things about these freight videos is the number of non-passenger stretches of track which get involved. This one has those curves leading to/from Hendschiken. Nice one. In Dottikon-Dintikon stration there was a train of VTG wagons and one NACCO. What is NACCO? The sidings south of D-D - are they a graveyard for unwanted passenger rolling stock? As you foretold - a very interesting ending; most unexpected. Certainly some intriguing hydraulics on that road vehicle. What was the purpose of the locomotive at the destination?
@officialmcdeath
@officialmcdeath 2 года назад
The Dottikon sidings are a strategic storage facility - during the height of the pandemic, the Swiss international passenger cars were kept there \m/

I really liked the end of this video, with this loading of the truck. But one question: why didn't the locomotive change sides of the train at Lenzburg station?
@628s-chanf7
@628s-chanf7 2 года назад
Lenzburg is among one of the most frequented Stations of Switzerland and is a rather old Station. There is always lack of tracks there, changing direction in Lenzburg is almost impossible without having another Loco on the other side of the train or completely crushing the timetable. Thats why they chose Dottikon to do their maneuvres
