I had issues with my A/C where it was blowing Hot & Cold Air at the same time. Brought it to BMW to get it diagnosed and they wanted to charge me close to $600. After doing a quick google search, I saw that it was a simple job so I decided to tackle it on my own.
The heater control value is simply a control valve used to control the quantity of hot coolant entering your car's heater core. By turning on your interior fan, air passes over the heater core (like a mini radiator) and your car's interior becomes warmer. A faulty valve can leak coolant or be stuck (full hot, full cool, or anywhere in between), and must be replaced for driver comfort.

I normally dont comment on videos i watch, but Wow, amazing video. You just saved me close to 5500 dollars. Thank you so much for posting this video. I know why shops go for the big bucks right away. It's a business, One mechanic said I needed to rip out and replace the a.c. core, which would be over 5k, i was like umm, I'll just deal with it for now. I just need to find an honest mechanic in the Austin area, theres got to be one out here. Then maybe then I wouldn't have to RU-vid everything, and fix it myself.

I changed it last summer paid $35 on ebay I just ordered another 1 this year about to do it again cuz had the same problem too

Thanks for the video. It seems to be the same on my x5 xdrive35i. This boosted my confidence. I was afraid to try it myself but it seems pretty straight forward. I will attempt this as soon as the new valve gets here. Next I will attempt to fix the frm model myself. Lol I will probably dick it up but I can’t afford what the dealership wants.

Just done it on a old E36 convertible and it was a lot easier to get than yours,mine cost £33 and works fine not all aftermarket stuff is bad or poorly made .good luck bro

agreed! it's still working but now my electronic parking module just went out on me... So waiting for the new part to come in... so be on a look out for another DIY haha

I did not, my car was out of the 10yr window for most recalls unfortunately

@@jpht.adventures no, not that kind of recall. this is a late recall in regards to that part (heater control valve). they said that it could cause fire. However, there is no ‘solution yet on this matter.’

Which hoses did you clamp before removing them from the control valve?

The coolant lines so they would spill out while I was swapping out the unit.

@@jpht.adventures You pinched all 3 hoses to the valve? What did you use to pinch it with?

@@lawrenceaguero7995 yes but honestly you don't need to. Just swap a each hose one at the time while installing in the new unit. You'll lose the same amount of coolant regardless.
