Thsi is one of the better BOOST vids i have seen. It's good to see somebody regearing differentials for a change instead of just adding boost. You put a much bigger tire, you put a lot more stress on the powertrain and you need taller gears. If you only add boost you put a LOT of stress on the transmission, which will reduce its life.

I like the manual transmission for this reason... It's easier to rebuild when I inevitably destroy something.

I went with Magnuson and an OTT tune. The 0-60 times are slower on these trucks because of the lazy shifting. It really shines with passing on the highway. I also like that there is no oil to change on the Magnuson and it gets rid of the plastic upper intake with ACIS and keeps the battery in the same position. Never had any issues with losing traction on trails from the low end torque because you hardly ever get into boost unless over half throttle. Plus, Toyota endorsed Magnuson when they used to make the TRD superchargers from the factory.

Man I completely disagree with y'all on when I need/want power off-roading, and just for daily driving up and down the hill on I70 or in the canyons. If I were to spend 10k to make my truck marginally better I would absolutely shoot for low end torque for all scenarios of driving.

My Taco is a manual transmission, so the pro charger will probably be a better fit. You mentioned the 3500+ RPM range a lot… that’s where my VVT kicks in. Otto > Atkinson.

every on is talking about v6/v8 but I just ordered an underdog pro charger for my 2005 2.7l inline 4 4x4 regular cab short box 5 speed manual base modal 3,000 pound truck with 250hp 200 fpt daily driver making a little go anywhere truck new long tube header and exhaust looking to get it regeared and arb air lockers front and back and Tund after I get everything on it and a stage 10 icon 3.5inch lift kit as well.

Soo what I am understanding is magnusen is better for towing low end torque. example small camper or a boat , pro charger is for off roading and freeway driving.

@mountain yotas - Which one of these options best fix the biggest problem we have here in Colorado? Meaning - the annoying constant 4th to 3rd downshift while going up mountain grades... I can't stand that about my 2020. Still an issue even with the latest OTT tune.

He decided to go with a 4.88 because he was only planning on running 33s, but now he's getting portals installed, so we'll see where he ends up :-)

The tune doesn't change things enough for it to fail emissions and you still maintain your catalytic converters, so it's not an issue at all!

I read about a dudes 4R procharger after a couole years and he has to change his belt every 15k it gets loose and squeels...the maggie on my 4R has 35k on it no belt issue w only 6lbs. Also keep in mind certain Toyota dealers supports maggie so if your in a jam out of town that might help. 4R does 0-60 ~6sec w maggie at sea level thats high 13->low 14 sec 1/4 mile lol.

My route rn. Waiting for fuel pump upgrades and pulley swap and better tun-ability. Procharger is definitely the way and stays cooler and has top end and better overall power.

The V6 in the 4Runner, Camry, and Tacoma is the same with lower/higher compression ratios. It's all plug and play.....

So im looking into a supercharger for towing. Im only towing a honda civic (2300lbs) with a 16’ aluminum trailer (1500lbs) im not into the over landing stuff but more power would be nice. I travel over plenty of mountains in the NE so im curious on inputs of which route is better. I know the difference between the two chargers but im wondering if anyone has towed with either of the two

I personally daily drive my Tacoma on 38s with a 5.29 regear and Procharger... it rips. I'd go with a Procharger over anything right now.

I have a 2021 TRD 4X4 V-6 W/a Manual, it's completely stock GUTLESS Throttle Lag w/20k miles on it,,, What can I expect for 10k a big dif, or just a little more than what's there now

You'll see a big difference regardless of which one you go with. Stock Tacomas should do 5.5-6 second 0-60 with the Magnuson. However the power really shines on the freeway with merging and passing. Get it tuned for more power without having to go down the rabbit hole of downsizing the pulley for more boost. Once you do go for the smaller pulleys, you will be gapping sports cars.

It doesn't come with spark plugs but we use NGK 7505 spark plugs when we do a ProCharger install!

We don't do custom tunes, but we do OTT for Procharger/Magnuson and OV Tunes for 3rd Gen NA Automatic Tacomas.

At altitude here it's more like 5-6lbs... anytime you force more power you decrease longevity, though.

Wanted the size and load capacity of the Tundra, but there are so many more after-market options for the Tacoma that's its not even close. So, I think I'll just try to build a beefy Tacoma 'cause Tundras don't get as much love.😏

Any forced induction will reduce the longevity, but it's alllll about how you drive it. You can beat the heck out of a stock motor and make its life short, or you can take great care of a super charged motor and make it last a long time with a more enjoyable driving experience.

Magnuson is fine for offroading because the power isnt that great and delivery isn't that instant, especially with the stock tune.

Honestly a regear is going to help with low-end torque more than any Toyota 4x4 supercharger... but, the Magnusson hits more in the lower range.

400hp 🤷‍♂️ Ty’s truck has 1,500lbs on the bed and 35s. We will be doing a dyno and street tune with smaller pully in a follow-up video.

How the hell does the Tacoma need more power above 3800 RPM? It has absolutely no low end power and that’s exactly where it’s needed. The 3.5 makes all its power up high. I’ve had it all the 3.5 the 4.0 and a 5.7 with a Harrop supercharger. Low end torque is where it’s at specially when you had 2000 pounds of crap to your rig

@@mtnyotas I know that. If I was at that amount of money spent, I would prefer to dump extra and go for the upside of a v8. I’m not criticizing your business, I hope you install lots of them. I see many rigs loaded down and trying to also tow. I’m just stating my preference. For the street and simplicity, your options are great. But when I see 37” tires, trimmed front ends, and thick steel front bumpers, I would rather have the flexibility & upside of a v8 swap. Great content though and keep it coming.

Most folks dont spend alot of time in the upper RPM ranges, where the procharger makes its power. Low end torque is where these truck suffer. If you're driving a heavy rig or towing. You'll be better served with a Magnuson. Although it adds less HP and torgue with the provided tune. The additionsl power is where its used and needed the most. You also have options such as custom tuning and smaller pullies to gain you some additional ponies and torque.

It is a big financial commitment, but we definitely don't think the ProCharger is a waste at all. When you combine a regear with a tune and a ProCharger it's completely next level.
