I have a bunch of different reels, the most expensive one are my Stradics, and the cheapest one I bought was either the Abu Garcia Cardinal SX or the Shimano FX. And after all, I must say my favourite is the Abu Pro Max. I've had several, and I never managed to kill any of them. They either ended up sold, lost or given away to friends, never used up, not that I havn't tried!
👍🏻 thanks for sharing. Just rebuilt a nexave 1000 that had been run very contaminated. Polished all the gear teeth, replaced all 3 bearings with ceramics, made a new pinion bushing from PEEK plastic. Had to change the shim arrangement to get the best performance. Not sure how smooth it was new, but was shooting for better.
I have an eight years old nexave which still works after all these years of salt water fishing, but its definitely showing its age. Pulled the trigger today and ordered a stradic fl, which will be a huge upgrade compared to the nexave
Great video, really like you in depth approach to the reels. I have 6 2500 sienna’s and really like them. Catch plenty of smallmouth and white bass on them with no issues. Have 3 sendona’s and had a Sahara as well but would choose the sienna over them for what you get with the price points. Recently got a couple of Diawa Legalis’s and they are great and pack a lot features into that $60-$70 price point.
Thanks for the comment! Good to hear they are holding up well to those smallmouths, I think that $70+ price point starts to get much better. it’s hard to argue if those Siennas are getting it done, though.
Thanks, late to the party here, but I felt the Nexave was really not worth the money. I have a couple 3000's ,4000's in the Sienna and both of these sizes have much stronger drags. Used primarily in Saltwater with lures. They have served me well.
Nice little comparison, thanks for sharing. I believe the Nexave FI 2500 is 10g lighter than the Sienna FG 2500. I think the bail arm might be a little thicker on the Nexave also, where it feels a little thin and flimsy on the Sienna.
Hi greetings from UK. One note from me to consider, though I am shimano guy to the bone marrow. If you are stepping up from cheaper P4 series shimano reels and thinking about the top P4 which is Nasci. I would definitely add few bucks and buy the entry level from the highest than P4 series, that is Ultegra. Why, it is because of the most important difference of all in those reels, and it is not count of BB. It is Drive mechanism, which will affect your line lay and hence casting and the pleasure feeling from money spent on reels. Nasci has Eliptical drive and Ultegra has the most superior WORM SHAFT DRIVE. The vest drive for braid.
@@goodmanfishing oh definitely. You will never look back and consider sienna and nexave toys. I am a bit shimano freak, like to collect reels (got stella 4000 fi, first version of Vanquish 4000. Stradic 2500 ci4+ and for sea ultegra 5000xg) and also previous nexave, which I like a lot(got it with polish magazine subscription). I have always though to wait longer/few months more to save money and always buy reel with wormshaft oscillation system, it has perfect li e lay and smooth as butter. For sea fishing of the rocks in North Cornwall for pollock and mackrell and I. Spain for sea bass and I chose ultegra, as smoother.
The Sienna and the FX FC are also basically the same reel. The only difference from the extra money is the color and an extra ball bearing instead of a brushing. It is also possible to replace the brushing with a ball bearing for like a dollar. So many reels are very similar to each other.
@@3thingsfishing427 no way you'll get a metal frame at that price. OP is correct, they're basically identical apart from the extra bearing in the sienna.
Great video, fast and in depth but quick review. I just needed to see the internals and where the besrings were in the reel and perfect. Ive made my mind up for my UL setup
So essentially paying more for better aesthetics. Depends where you place value on a reel Personally I got the Nexave, it complements the color of my rod quite well :)
@goodman_fishing I would definitely recommend for an amazing reel under $100. I went to my local outdoor store and tested a ton of reels without looking at prices and it's the one I ended up choosing. Caught a 5 pound bass on it 2 weeks ago and there was no squealing or grinding. Just smooth action the whole time
The Nexave line can be had with the higher 6.2:1 ratio going from the 300 series and up with higher drag (19lbs). If you're buying a 2500 series, Sienna or FX 2500 are identical to the Nexave 2500. I highly suggest a 2500 sienna in a medium light power rod. Nexave 300 in a medium.
I have one Sedona 1000FD the only problem I had was a broken Bail Spring. Nice reel but haven’t used it in years because I needed a reel for vacation when the Sedona broke. So I bought a Pflueger President now I have 7 of them. However I’m becoming disappointed in the Pflueger’s because they are getting Grindy, noisy, & clicking. I’m getting tired of bringing them in for repair and cleaning. I just bought a Diawa Regal for $49.00 a few days ago I boated a 30” Pike 20” & 21” LMBass plus about 20 bass between 13” & 17” with 8lbs sufix 832 on a Fenwick Elite Tech Bass Medium Lite. That Diawa Regal impressed the heck out of me. It hauled all the fish in over a 3 day weekend effortlessly. No way did I expect it to preform as well as it did. I was fishing 5” Zoom Flukes. So I’m currently waiting on my new Fenwick Elite Walleye to come in and I bought a 2500 Diawa Fuago as a Combo setup. I think my President are going to be put on Guest Rods for people that come to our cabin and have no fishing gear. Pretty reel but they are not making the quality reels the Pflueger President was once known for. I was shopping for. Shimano NASCI but I couldn’t locate one. However the Diawa Fuago won out because they were in stock.
Just stumbled upon this video. I’d say comparing the 2500 size reels I can agree but looking at the 3000c models you get the faster gear ratio and another pound of drag with the nexave compared to the sienna. Going from the 2500 to the 3000c I think is worth it the generally .2-.3 oz heavier reel. To me that’s the only “downside” but very negligible.
I have used all middle range shimano up to 21nasci 4000xg and Stradivarius civilians but found sahara with no problems in getting 15 to 20 lbs fish in abuse fishing but still no problems with it im amazed considering its cheap
There are a lot of good options around that $100 price point. Another is the new 2022 Sahara FJ that American Legacy Fishing has available for pre-order ($85). I've been considering trying one of the 3000 series 6.2:1 versions.
In my experience there is almost no difference between Sienna FG 1000 and FX FC 1000. My Nexave FI 1000 however runs considerably smoother. It may be sharing a lot of components with FX/Sienna, but it seems to be put better together. There is little or no difference between my Nexave FE 2500 (old model) and my Sienna FG 2500. My Sahara FI 2500 runs noticeably smoother than the two though.
How is the more clocking on the drag not better? Wouldn’t more clicks just mean finer tuning? I get that you could probably not tell the difference but it isn’t irrelevant.
Thanks for the comment, my thought is that the single disc drag is going to have very similar/high static friction regardless of the "clicks" before it transitions into dynamic friction. Just my thought!
I would agree, if it had a multidisc drag but given its still a basic single disc, the static friction is going to be very similar to the sienna regardless. Just my opinion!
@@glynnnelson2588 I’d love to be corrected on something I overlooked, but that is pretty much what it concluded. Next step up to a Sahara or Nasci has some nice benefits 🤙
I always recommend the Nasci to anyone who is looking for a "good reel" without breaking the bank. Shimano sells more models than any other company and I always thought it was a bit excessive.
Thanks for the comment! Do you have any detail behind some of the quality differences? ABEC ratings? I found that the ring gear bearings are the same replacement price, though different part numbers between the Sienna and Nexave. The pinion bearing is more expensive for the Sienna. Could be a volume difference but it's all I can find to compare from Shimano.
I own both of these reels and the Nexave is way better.Better line lay, smoother, the drag is crisper, bail arm is thicker, way better handle and the Sienna makes a grinding noise when hauling in a fish.Don't get me wrong the Sienna is still a decent reel tho
Great information! Great video ! 👍👍 I have 12 Sienna reels from the first versions to this new red one, I like all 3 versions of them. I look at it just like you, would I rather have one expensive reel or have 2 to 3 reels for the same price, I chose more. I abuse my reels a lot from fishing in rain sandy places ect to me more good reels the better.
If you are between the Nexave and Sienna, Sienna. If performance/durabiity is of higher priority, then the NASCI is money better spent over the Nexave.
Such a greta job!!! Do you think that shimano sedona is basically the same reel than sienna/nexave but with materials intended for salt water use? internal diagrams looks the same for me (3 bearings and 2 brake washers) Thanks for your comparison!!!
I am not a huge fan of Diawa but at least they do genuine upgrades in their reels. I am a PFlueger fan myself. You get twice the quality for less money over Shimano and Diawa. Just look at the Trion. There is nothing from Diawa and Shimano at that price point that compares. Same goes for the President, maybe the Diawa Regal compares but other than that, nothing else from Diawa and Shimano does compare.
@@goodmanfishing 2021 Daiwa Legalis LT at $69 and 2021 Daiwa Fuego CS LT at $99. I gotta say that new Nasci FC is a sexy looking reel, they added the screw-in handle too compare to the FB.
