Get in, another London Cycle Routes video! Perfect thing for a nice relaxing Sunday evening. Tomorrow, I'm going to Barnet Council's Environment Committee meeting at the Town Hall, to see what they're up to. I hope to hear a bit about plans for bike lanes... we really need to be doing better. I've been inspired by your videos, which show just how possible cycle infrastructure is to be built basically anywhere in London. Thanks.
The first part is my commute to work. I carry on down CS1 to the CIty. Boleyn Road is the worst bit until you get to the CIty. The rest is mostly fine, although you get people turning out of side roads without looking once you cross over Downham Road.
Hello from Canterbury. Just writing to say I"ve fallen behind in viewing your wonderful videos purely due to being very busy. Apologies for that and as a result, also absent from commenting for a while. Rest assured I will always be subscribed to your channel and will catch up on viewing all your videos with great interest as soon as I can. I always maintain that your videos are very useful not only for cycling but also for ideas of interesting neighborhoods to walk. Plus of course soaking up the atmosphere of London. Hope all is well with you.
My wife was born in Calthorp Street.. back then it was populated mainly by immigrant families (her parents were Italian). They were evicted as the housing conditions were considered unsuitable but lo and behold, it got gentrified and is now very expensive! We visit every now and then, very pretty and close to Condors the bike shop 😀
@@Londoncycleroutes we did once see the owners leaving, was very tempted to say hello and tell them the story but thought it might be a bit weird. My wife’s parents were in the basement, she caught bronchitis as a child from the damp. I’m all for improvement but it would be nice to bring the original residents along. One day
🤙🏼 *Oh wow 60FPS too now* 🤙🏼 The youtube compression angels did a good job on this one, picture was stunnin 👌🏼 Considerin it's not native 4k, it looked like it! Looks like it was such a nice day for a ride, sunny but a little chilly is my ideal. Really nice route 👏🏼👏🏼
Totally agree about the weather haha! Perfect day. Funnily enough this footage is so old that it’s chilly because it’s not summer yet rather than now, but it fits well! And aye, I’m aiming for 4K 60fps… I think I’m going to have to upgrade my camera to do it. I’m not sure 4K 30 cuts it because part of the fun of these videos is how smooth they are. but with my current one if I shoot 4K and 60 then I can’t use the image stabilisation on full, which is also really important for the feel of the videos- so an upgrade is probably in order! Fortunately the Patreon means I can make these kind of investments without too much trouble
Great video and route Jon. I noticed a slight mistake in the komoot map, at the end it doesn't turn into Birkenhead Street but instead continues on St Chad's and then turns onto Grey's Inn Road.
Another route is at the top of clissold, keep on straight, and there is a lane way which brings you into Highbury....onto Emirates Stadium.. Liverpool road and through Barnsbury to Kings Cross on back roads also. Just Another option 😉
@@Londoncycleroutes no worries! Also, how do google maps update the cycle routes. I use this most if im in an area of London im not sure of (generally south or west!), sometimes it gives you random options not suited to cyclists.
Interesting route, this is my exact start/end for my commute. I do Church st > Highbury fields > H. corner > H. Station Rd > Offord Rd. > Hemingford Rd > Copenhagen St > Coal Drops Yard > KX. I’ll give yours a go.
Interested in what you think of it! I like that Highbury Station road cut through I have used it in a few vids. Also hopefully Copenhagen Street will be getting the LTN treatment within the next year or two
I don't think it matters how long Islington consults. There will still be loud people complaining about LTNs and 'lack of consultation'. Every LTN in our area we've been consulted on so I don't know what they are talking about. I think there's just too much misinformation about LTNs out there. I get yelled at that I must hate disabled people and old people because I support LTNs. The estate I live on is a 'natural' LTN and plenty of disabled people and elderly people live here just fine, they don't need to worry about cars flying down the road at them and there is quick access to a road with good parking for permit holders. No one complains about our estate.
yep I agree, I don't think it's the right approach. right now in Lambeth they're consulting and engaging on Streatham Wells LTN and in the middle of the consultation, as you say, the main cry from opponents is 'there hasn't been a proper consultation'. people who say that don't really mean they want a consultation, they just mean they want the council to do what they want, and anything else isn't a 'proper consultation'.
A note - there is a route thats probably a bit faster if you don't mind mixing with a bit more traffic (although probably more than would be allowed to meet the requirements of this channel): Instead of going down CS1, make your way through the stoke newington LTN towards green lanes and petherton road (whatever route you choose probably doesn't matter too much) and go down petherton road (which tends to be quite quiet despite not being in an LTN), and cycle through canonbury and then barnsbury to kings cross (approaching it from the north from the granary square area).
Your route will probably get even better once a couple of the planned Islington LTNs have gone in - Highbury new park and Barnsbury! Will be worth a video then I think
Not sure I've done most of the first half of that, as kings cross is 7 miles from mine, and I usually do 5-15 local... I just don't know that area at all. Looks lovely compared to Chelsea 🤣 x
I've mentioned this before but you can cut out Boleyn rd by going through the estate opposite Wordsworth rd - either ride it considerately or walk the short distance to King Henry st. Then Mildmay, K Henry's Walk, St Jude''s street. There's road works there at the moment but it does cut out Boleyn rd nicely.
Yep! on the Komoot page there's a button on the right hand sidebar that says 'Export To GPS Device' and it'll let you download a GPX file. You may have to be logged into Komoot to see it (it's free though )
The improvements in London’s cycle infastructure have really picked up over the last few years. If only other cities around the UK could copy London. Oh and RBCK could get its act together regarding Kensington High Street.
Completely agree, there’s nothing special about London and other places could easily do just as well! In fact it might be easier because most places only have to deal with one council whereas we needs a dozen borough to decide to do the right thing and work together
@@Londoncycleroutes Although London does have one major advantage. TfL; who over recent years have gained lots of experience in designing cycle routes. London is also more densely populated than most other English cities. But fully agree, other cities need to start catching up with London.
Another nice video. Keep up the good work. 🖖 On a more personal note: I have written a brilliant novel and am looking for a marketing partner (preferably from the cycling community). Do you know anyone, who would be interested?
Not my area of expertise I’m afraid! I know fusion media is a London-based pr company that does cycling stuff but I’m not sure whether they do that sort of thing. And congrats!
